“Princess Agents” Debuts to Satisfying Ratings

Chinese period television drama Princess Agents <楚乔传> starring Zanilia Zhao Liying ( 赵丽颖) has debuted to satisfying results, snagging the number one spot in online ratings chart. The drama, which premiered on June 5, is the highest-rated television drama this week on streaming service, breaking through 10% of market shares. Only time will tell if Princess Agents will continue to break through numbers, or lose its steam.

The drama follows a resilient slave girl Chu Qiao (Zanilia Zhao), who eventually starts a rebellion and becomes one of the most powerful female generals of her time. Costarring with Zanilia is Lin Gengxin (林更新) and Shawn Dou (窦骁).

The first two episodes premiered to decent critical reviews, with critics praising Zanilia’s performance and the show’s world-building. Critics also praised the CGI in the first act of the debut episode, which shows the slave girls running for their lives as they’re being surrounded by wolves.

  1. Spent 5 days to read the novel before official broadcast day. So far, I like the series, hopefully they will not change much of the plots from the original story like they did to Chusen.

  2. That’s great to hear since I was so looking forward to watching it (more than Liu Shi Shi and William Chan’s drama). Let’s hope the series is as good or better than advertised in the (impressive) trailer.

    1. I finally watched several episodes…and I’m disappointed.
Its’s not all that great. Style over substance. Kinda pretentious too.
Aside from Zhao Liying (who is great as always) the rest of the cast delivers at best average performance. The CGI is also terrible (so typical, but I’ve gotten used to it..)
i like the plot though, and I really like Zhao Liying so I guess I’ll continue with this drama.
