Miriam Yeung Released from Hospital; Accused of Being Selective in Work

Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) had a health scare last month, when she was hospitalized for respiratory distress and flu-related symptoms. Due to the severity of her condition, Miriam had to halt all of her work, including the recording of an upcoming Cantonese album.

Yesterday, Miriam’s manager announced that the 41-year-old has made a great recovery and was released from the hospital. Although recovering well, her doctor recommended Miriam to refrain from singing to allow her voice to recover.

Originally slated to perform in Guangzhou on June 13, the first overseas stop for her Let’s Begin 2015 World Tour, Miriam’s manager announced that the Guangzhou concert has been postponed to August 29. Miriam apologized to her fans about the postponement, and explained that in order to meet the physical demands of a perfect live concert, she must have adequate rest.

Miriam’s Apology Met with Skepticism

However, Miriam’s explanation was met with skepticism. Many netizens accused Miriam for being selective in her work, putting her singing career in the back-burner.

Yesterday, Miriam and her husband Real Ting (丁子高) has flew to China to do a photo shoot for the second season of The Amazing Race China <極速前進>. The reality TV series will be filmed in iconic worldwide locations with many physically-demanding challenges. It was also announced that Miriam is resuming the Cantonese voice dubbing for the animated feature film, Minions.

Miriam’s manager stated that Miriam has to be selective in her work because she is still not fully recovered. As Miriam is under contract for The Amazing Race China, she cannot postpone the filming of the series for too long. Miriam will only be undergoing five days of overseas filming and the crew allowed her husband to do most of the physically-demanding work. Miriam’s decision to postpone the concert was to aid her vocal recovery and give a better performance.

  1. WhaT a weird article. The fact she was hospitalised shows why she has to be selective. I thought she refused to do one concert on some lame excuse and the appears in another concert which is not the case. Very weird.

  2. She should just quit. Never a fan of her songs. She can act but only on certain happy-go-lucky characters which are very much of her real nature.

  3. Honestly, those netizens are being unreasonable.  Of course Miriam has to be selective with her work given how serious her situation was – her vocal cords aren’t completely healed yet so why damage them even further by singing?  It makes perfect sense, so what is there to complain about?  I had read that some of those who complained were her fans – if so, well, some fans they are!  As fans, I would think that they should be concerned with hoping her vocal cords fully recover so she can continue to sing for them rather than complain that she had to delay her concert….probably not true fans then.  So lame!

  4. Speedy recovery to Miriam Yeung!

Not really her fan but I do enjoy the fact that she radiates emotions through her songs, where she lacks in technique she makes up with feeling.

Great actress too, started out playing herself most of the time but she really matured and has a good range (from love undercover to dumplings to love in a puff). Watched her ‘Little Big Master’ recently. Liked her layered and warm performance a lot.
