Huang Xiaoming and Crystal Liu Reunite After 9 Years, Discuss Individual Love Lives

Nine years after they filmed the mainland Chinese drama, Return of the Condor Heroes <神鵰俠侶> together, actor Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) and actress Crystal Liu (劉亦菲) were reunited at a Beijing event, where they shared about their high-profile love lives.

For six years, Huang Xiaoming has been a spokesperson for the Swiss watch brand Tissot. Today, the brand announced that Crystal Liu, who starred opposite Xiaoming in Return of the Condor Heroes, would be joining as Tissot’s newest spokesperson.

“Being here with Crystal Liu makes it seem like we have returned to the time we filmed Return of the Condor Heroes,” remarked Xiaoming. “But now, the two of us have gotten older; I have a family now, she has matured, and our careers are prospering more and more. Time can bring everything, but it can also take everything away and put everything in reverse. Thus, time is very important.”

Keeping the focus on the importance of time, Xiaoming and Crystal shared important moments in their careers. For Xiaoming, it was when he filmed the movie American Dreams in China <中國合伙人>, since it allowed him to experience an inner change and netted him many acting awards as well. Crystal revealed that a turning point in her career was getting to work with many veteran actors in The Forbidden Kingdom <功夫之王>, as that was the first time she began to understand acting.

Romantic Involvement Inside the Industry

Both Xiaoming and Crystal are romantically linked to people in the entertainment industry, and their love lives have frequently drawn the attention of the media, especially following Xiaoming and Angelababy’s (楊穎) extravagant wedding earlier this month. Crystal readily admitted that her boyfriend, Korean actor Song Seung Heon, is very important to her.

“We usually have to appear like bright and beautiful stars in front of audiences,” said Crystal. “But in relationships, we are allowed to return to the state of being a normal person and enjoy our lives that way.”

Xiaoming was quick to agree, saying, “This is especially true when your partner is also in the entertainment industry, because they are even more able to sympathize with your problems and give you more support.”

  1. “But in relationships, we are allowed to return to the state of being a normal person and enjoy our lives that way.”

it’s a sad truth that the public forgets that these celebrities are human and that they will commit the same things as what “normal” people do (i.e. cheat, lie, PS, depression) but for some reason, because they are celebrities, they cannot commit any of these, as if they have to be picture-perfect. for example, Jackie Chan cheated on his wife with that Elaine woman. while it does go against my personal morals, i hold nothing against him as doesnt normal citizens cheat on their wives too? (not justifying his actions btw) and how many people complains that Kevin Cheng is like an arrogant prick, well, isnt there normal citizens that are that too? I feel so much sympathy for celebrities and agree with Crystal Liu on that.

by the way, is their version of ROCH worth watching? the only version i saw was Carmen Lee and Louis Koo’s 1995 version and i am curious if it’s any good.

    1. @akinu imo it’s amazing! I’ve watched it thrice already (still obsessed with it hahah!)

umm basically acting wise, HXM is pretty okay, but Liu Yi Fei is absolutely perfect as XiaoLongNu. In fact, she has that kind of really naive look and a kind of ancient beauty that really suits this role. I like the way she acted, and the way she spoke, but somewhere along the line (this was probably and intended effect) you might get a little sick from watching so much lovey-dovey things in ROCH (that is if you don’t mind ofc)

Later in the series, there’s a girl called Guo Fu (guo jing and huang rong’s eldest daughter) and she’s so despicable you’d want to kill her. The other actors/ actresses are okay, but I’m still (until now, yes) not really used to their appearances because I miss Hu Ge and Ariel Lin’s acting in LOCH 2008!

SO YES PLEASE GO WATCH IT AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK !

      1. @ruomin02 i’ll take your recommendation and try to binge watch it (period dramas are so long @_@). i really loved the 1995 version so now i would love to see how this 2006 version compares. Btw, Hu Ge and Ariel’s LOCH is the one that focuses on Yang Guo’s father and Guo Jing, right? because i have never watched this part of the story if that’s so xD

and yes, if i end up liking it, i will notify you same way, some how.

      2. @akinu Yes they are reallly long but it’s worth it (after all you only watch them once, at least, in most cases)

Hu Ge and Ariel’s LOCH is about Yang Kang and Guo Jing, yes, and also about the Guo Jing- Huang Rong romance. Trust me, Ariel Lin did pretty good on this one.

I saw most of their version and feel it is worth watching. Zhang Ji Zhong’s productions are usually pretty good adaptions overall. He does not butcher novels like Yu Zheng does and usually chooses a very good cast as well. Have you seen his other JY adaptions or his other adaptions? Most of them are very good in my opinion. But you can watch for yourself and see. Great to see them together again. Was Crystal invited to HXM’s wedding? I remember that she was not close to him during the filming and said she was only working. Therefore, I wonder if she was even invited? Hm…

I feel like she’s not overly closed to most of her costars?
I hardly watch much of anything of CL or HXM but you know glimpses here and there on utube. The only costar that I have heard from interviews was Wang Lee Hom the film she starred in w/him a while back? Saying WLH is smart, cute and hardworking such and such but w/Hu Ge or this HXM I feel she never really said anything perhaps I was wrong cuz I don’t always follow the casts on utube…Sometimes looking at an MV and coincidentally hears clips here and there. The only thing I remember HXM said about her was at the time she was very young and his now current wife is even younger than she is? LOL…..Life is interesting yet again? lol…
