Leanne Li Translates for Daniel Craig; Wants To Be A Bond Girl

Spectre, the latest James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, is currently doing a promotional tour in China. The cast of the British film, including Daniel Craig and new Bond girl Lea Seydoux, went on the variety show Day Day Up <天天向上> a few days ago, in which Leanne Li (李亞男) acted as their special guest translator.

On the show, Daniel expressed his love for Chinese tea culture and had the opportunity to watch a tea ceremony being performed on the show. Dad, Where Are We Going 3 <爸爸去哪兒3> star Zou Shiming (鄒市明) and his son Xuanxuan also taught Daniel a few kung fu moves. Jane Zhang (張靚穎) performed the Chinese theme song for Spectre.

Leanne, born in Shanghai but grew up in Vancouver, speaks impeccable English and Mandarin. On the show, Leanne confidently translated for Daniel and Lea, earning praises from many viewers who attended the live recording. Netizens said Leanne had a lot of stage charisma and was even taller than Lea, thus suggesting her to be the next Bond girl. The last Asian Bond girl was portrayed by Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊) in the 1997 film Tomorrow Never Dies, starring Pierce Brosnan as 007.

When reporters relayed the netizens’ comments to Leanne, she said, “I think Lea Seydoux is really pretty! She’s very sexy and smart!” Asking if she would be interested in being a Bond girl, Leanne expressed, “That would be a huge blessing if I get to have that opportunity! Out of all the Bond girls, I like China’s representative, Michelle Yeoh, the best. I even joked on the show about wanting to be China’s second representative.”

  1. Daniel Craig is hot.

Michelle Yeoh is Malaysian so she is Malaysian representative or Chinese representative, not China representative

Lea Seydoux is one of the most insignificant Bond girl ever and for me one of the worst because her so called loving eyes at Bond looks more like “ngan guat guat” (Cantonese)

Spectre is the worst Bond film if count from Casino Royale onwards and destroys everything good Casino Royale did.

Poor Leanne. So she is now the translator and not the famous actress? Don’t the show have any professional translator? Not to say Leanne didn’t do well but rather imagine Daniel Craig becomes translator for a pair of other actors.

    Wheres the video? Wanna watch!

  2. Notice, whenever there is western people (actors/actresses) involved in the news/events, the Chinese media always makes it sound like it is a big huge fuss when it’s clearly not even worth a news.

    1. @nori This is a report on the promotional event for a movie. How is this not a worthy news on an entertainment news site. If movie/series promotional events are not worthy news for an entertainment news site what is worthy? Where else should the news be put in if not entertainment news site/entertainment news section of a news paper?

The report also didn’t make this event sounds like a huge deal. It just report as it is. Leanne Li is the guest translator and wants to be a bond girl (lots of white actresses also like a chance to be a Bond girl, so, this is not white-worshiping). Daniel Craig liking Chinese tea. Zou Shiming teaching Craig chinese kungfu.
The report didn’t praise Craig up to the sky or go gah gah over Lea Seydoux.

  3. The Bond Girl is the quintessential flower vase exploitative role. When it comes to the ethnic ones, they further punctuate the “White Man’s privilege” image.

Speaking of Michelle Yeoh, the Malaysian white-worshiping has been, I wonder what ever happened to her brother with the defecation fetish.

  4. I see that TVB strategically assigned her as a translator so TVB can generate more news, any news as a matter of fact is good news in the entertainment industry.

  5. I want to watch the video first before I comment on her English. She immigrated to Vancouver when she was 12. I am sure she can speak fluent English and Mandarin as she is from a Shanghainese family. She is fluent in both languages, but is she really very good in English???

    1. @orchid123 I won’t doubt her proficiency unless she has been living in Chinatown. She looks like a westernised girl. And she has no excuse to speak terrible english since she was there since 12. Probably even canadian accent.

      1. @funnlim Hi. Daniel is a pretty low-profile guy but he works pretty hard. He probably signed a contract with the makers of the Bond franchise that he needs to dedicate his time to their movies first and with all the different filming locations and stunts, I don’t think he has the time to commit to another movie.

“Spectre” is rumoured to be the last in his series of Bond films so I guess he is trying to give his best to the role that shot him to fame. He is also a family guy. He probably took advantage of the free time to spend it with the kids.

      2. @elizabeth He inked one more so I think he will be back. I hope a better script, a better villain and more enthusiasm. He wasn’t enthusiastic. Have you seen it?

What kids? He only got a grown up daughter and a I suppose near teenage son who isn’t his. I think the films took a mental toll on him. As for family guy, never had that impression. But I do not want to talk about his personal live. He did end up marrying a woman who should have been a Bond girl herself. A Weisz decision I will say!!

  6. The Bond movies did not shoot Daniel Craig to fame, but they solidified his fame. He was famous before Bond, that is why he was offered the J.B role.

    1. @abc123a Actually he wasn’t famous before Bond. He was well known. Bond did not solidified his fame. Rather Bond shot him to stratosphere. He was offered the role because the producer noticed him in Layer Cake. When he was cast, he was the most villified actor to play Bond. The criticisms were borderline personal insults and for me, even I feel was a tad too petty. Well, he worked out, had that scene where he was wonderfully naked if not for his itsy tiny teeny baby blue bikini and I was hooked. So sexy. So so so sexy.
