Daniel Wu Criticizes the Korean Flower Boy Look: “It Affects Your Acting”

41-year-old Chinese American actor Daniel Wu (吳彥祖) is more than just a pretty face. The Hong Kong-based actor, who made his debut performance in the 1998 romantic drama film Bishonen <美少年之戀>, or Beautiful Boys, doesn’t want his good looks to overshadow his passion for acting.

“I joined the industry because I love acting,” he said. “It’s not because I want to be a celebrity. I still consider myself as a traditional actor.”

Daniel is currently on a tour to promote his new Hollywood film Warcraft, an epic fantasy film based on the video game series of the same name. In the movie, Daniel plays Gul’dan, a villainous orc warlock. Daniel brought the role to life through CGI, and the character is completely different from Daniel’s own image.

When the topic about how the Korean “flower boy” image has become popular in recent years, Daniel admitted, “A lot of people like to make themselves look like Korean celebrities nowadays. Style their hair in strange ways, put a lot of make up on. Men don’t look like men anymore. I don’t understand that.”

He also added, “A lot Korean celebrities look the way they do because they are singers, not actors. If you try to look like them all the time, it’ll affect your role as an actor. If you dress up strangely every day, how would you be convincing in a role where you’re supposed to look plain? The audience would get a certain impression of you. That can affect your acting career.”

  1. “Men don’t look like men anymore. I don’t understand that.”

My thoughts exactly regarding the Korean Flower Boy Image. Why do guys strive to look so… girly!?

    1. @shimmerstars

200% (from Christine Ng’s believes in her cheating husband) agree …. GAY is what I see in those guys.. Give me a “chills” whenever I saw each face ….Rarely see a few that look like normal guys… LOLs

  2. As a full time student in Korea. Daniel probably stucked in the late 2000s of Korean dramas. Korean actors do not look like flower boys anymore. Atleast majority of them. Even idols don’t look flower boys anymore. They are aiming for more teenage-ish or more mature style and as far as i know the flower boy style are close to non existence maybe with an execption of few which i dont understand why too. And to comments that thinks flower boy= gay looking. You’re probably in your 40-50s? Even older generation dont think like that. Maybe you’re borned in the 1930s . Go and watch all your 1970s dramas. In fact i know some “flower boys” here and they are the manliest guy ever lol. What for looking like a real man but acts and talk without processing

    1. agree with @joojin … im a fan of korean drama eversince 2000 and kpop fan since 2005 … there are many “flower boys” that are more manly then so called real man … watch the other side of them in variety programmes, they are so much more manly, responsible, and charismatic with initiative … the programme is so much more attractive in those recent chinese language variety programme recently when these “flower boys” make an appearance.

    2. also to be fair … korean stars with “flower boy” image does not mean their acting is not good … in fact many of their acting is superb even at a very young age

im a die hard tvb drama fan … but to be honest, many times i feel that there are many korean dramas that are so much more better and professional … especially the superb acting of ‘flower boys’ … may not even see such good quality acting from TVB in years, except lately there are a few siu sang who are really good and convincing

      1. @anneyen
hahha lol…TVB sucks really. I haven’t really watched much of anything these days except I watched that Louis Cheng series w/Matt Yeung that was the only one I finished from beginning to end. I watched a bit of COD for Ruco of course but still I find the TVB series just suck so bad right now.
““flower boy” image does not mean their acting is not good” – Very true b/c watching hk ones you can easily tell that boyband dudes or kpop girls are not that bad since most ms.hk & mr.hk are equally new and bad. hhaha …
I finally started watching the much hyped popular kdrama “Descendants of the Sun” and I don’t get the hype really but I do get the fact that it’s at least a bit different and interesting characters.
There is this Onew guy I heard is a flower boy and his role suck like no other lol…hates his crying and the role itself but you know what for a newbie his acting is really good in comparison to so called hk actors. I don’t know if the drama deserves its hype but so far it’s interestingly entertaining and I haven’t watched a kdrama since I don’t remember when…lol…

      2. @kiki I watched DOTS.. actually loved it as it was different. It was wicked funny when I wasn’t expecting that. The leads and 2nd leads had amazing chemistry. Even the side character was wicked funny. I love all the dr. and nurses too. There is comedy, romance, bromance and etc. all in 1 drama.. personally, I loved that! Think there is a hype because it was an all pre-production drama which is rare in Korea. SBS didn’t purchase it as they weren’t sure it’ll be a hit.. KBS end up buying the right to broadcast it and the rest is history.

      3. @happybi
Yes, I actually love the opening fight scene I was like whoooo….haha thought it was a love drama you know considering it’s Korean so I was surprisingly shocked to have liked it and continue haha lol….usually, I am just one epi here and there and that’s it never bother w/ending if I don’t continue. After epi 5 I feel it’s a nice long movie production cuz the special effects wasn’t too bad and the scenery are some of the best I have seen whether it’s real or fake so I guess I can understand some of the hype but just shocked that they can boost up their economy like that before it even finished airing. That is amazing. I have no special feelings for the leads honestly b/c I only seen Full House girl. SJK is cute at best but here he is shockingly matured haha buff up after military probably and he’s kind of adorable here. He does not look that much younger compares to some noona pair ups. They are cutely compatible. I haven’t finished yet so let’s see if I will enjoy the ending. 🙂

      4. @kiki Ah so you are not finished! ehehh Will let you finish then. there are many LOL moments in the drama.. that’s why I love it. I like the pairing. SHK is an excellent actress.. I actually like her since Autumn taie.. SJK,, like him since sungkyunkwan scandal. another good drama. and the two 2nd lead.. love them too! ehheheheh

        Enjoy finishing it!

      5. @happybi
Yes, I am finding it to be greatly interesting b/c it’s not typically the slow paced kdramas. It goes fast and time jumps and I think it works well. I do find some LOL moments and quite some ridiculous moments as well. For one, I love their direct first episode in and they already are not playing around and goes straight for the kill asking for dates. I love full house girl’s sass and attitude, she’s not the usual annoying kind of female leads. I dislike the reference that she is such a beauty b/c I really don’t find her to be that HOT here. She was so cute and much more beautiful in Full House and I don’t think it’s because she’s 12 years older. Her hairstyle is just NOT HOT enough for them to keep on stressing how beautiful she is? haha….Secondly, gosh the kissing – Really same typical not much passionate scenes AT ALL. haha… all little pecks or that’s the traditional kissing method for kdramas? ahha lol…
The most hateful role right now is Onew, why do they keep on stressing and made him feel bad that he left that guy??? He’s a doctor and even if a soldier can’t save that dude are they supposed to die w/him? Anyone would leave if they can’t save them no? And that ungrateful little bastard doesn’t even appreciate that he still save his life by telling the soldiers that someone was still in there? I find this Onew role very annoying to watch. But he did his role well thou, his crying and acting didn’t seem like a total newbie.

      6. @kiki yes. I like the pace of the drama. Everyone is very direct instead of playing coy. I like that. I am not a fan of onew character. I actually love dr song with the nurse. So sweet. But yes. Kiss scene could always be better but compare to be with no lip movements. Its already and improvement. If you want good lips actuon2, you need to watch tvn drama. Heheheh i need romance 3 was good.

I love shk. I find her beautiful. Is she hot? I think she can be. But more on the classy side.

      7. @happybi Since you mention Autumn Tale, I can’t help but ask if the two male leads from this drama were the flower boys back then? Even so, I am still a big fan of them. These two actors are now in there late thirties but still very handsome (if not better than before). It doesn’t matter what kind of hair styles they have (even flower boy hair style), they still look sexy and manly, not to mention their smoking hot bodies. Most importantly, they can act well too.

      8. @olivegarden ohhhh i Love Won Bin!! I am not a fan of SSH though. WB is gorgeous and such a good actor. Don’t think they were consider flower boys though. Flower boys wasn’t really a thing until F4 i think. I had major 2nd lead syndrome watching Autumn Tales!

      9. @happybi Thanks for your reply. WB didn’t film a lot of dramas/movies in the past 15 years though. I guess this guy is all for quality not quantity,eh. As for me, I’ve loved both male leads equally after watching AT and I only watched K-dramas/movies from the two guys (almost exclusively:))

    3. @joojin

The way I read the article is Daniel is talking about the ‘korean flower ‘ in HKG and maybe China. He did not say that Korea men still have that image now.

He also did not say that Korean Flower boys are not good actors.
He suggested that having the image may affect acting because a girly looking guy cant really act manly. For example an actor cant act as Hercules and also keep the flower boy image.

Another example is TVB actresses acting as police women and wearing their 12cm heels chasing a criminal. They want to keep their sexy/hot image which makes it look silly.

      1. @1nit Yep. Think that’s what Daniel is trying to say. Not that Korean flower boy can’t act..

But as a Kpop fan, I have to say the flower boy look is a look from before.. Actually JPop was like that way before KPop took over that image and made it very popular. I don’t mind the pretty boy look as long as they can still act, I’m all for it!!

  3. Well, this is just one actor’s opinion. I guess he is speaking from experience since he was known more for his looks and prolific output versus the quality of his acting early in his career. There is some merit there. Also, logic dictates that if you’re good at your craft, looks shouldn’t matter (within normative standards). Finally, there is a wide range of male beauties in Korea lol. The new generation of actors there are constantly reinventing themselves, so “pretty” for many is a phase.

  4. Daniel acting is proven. I also agree because many celeb in my country are trying to look like Korean Flowers. Most will have plastic surgery to look like a pale looking female and gain a lot of fans. A man should look like a man unless you are singer and try to illustrate some type of style or music culture. It is embarrassing the we have no identities anymore.

    1. @sammie1988 …..A man should look like a man less you are a singer and try to illustrate some type of style or music culture……..

I guess you are referring to men who impersonate women singers for a living. If so, then that is okay. That should only be done during working hours, unless the men are gay or transgendered. All other singers, be it boy banders or solo singers should look like men. I agree with your comment.

  5. Daniel, don’t criticise others that people find attractive when you started off as a model which lead to an acting job to start your career because of your own attractiveness.

    1. @mike
Exactly, didn’t he once started as a flower boy? I mean, of course he can say it’s all the acting now but hey even flower boys gotta start somewhere right? lol…
I never find DW hot and handsome but he does have a certain matured charm.

    2. @mike Just because Daniel started off as a model, which led to acting doesn’t mean that he was girly looking. A man can be attractive or handsome without being girly, so what are you trying to say.

  6. I haven’t really been paying attention to Kdramas lately, but even Ive noticed that flower boys are starting to diminish in Kdramas (thank god.) If anything though, pretty flower boys/girls are abundant in HK & Mainland. Sometimes I watch TV dramas and I’m just scratching my head thinking it’s just not realistic how clean and crisp these actors/actresses look. It takes away from the realism and character of the roles they play when their apparel, face, environment is so flawless. HK dramas isn’t too bad with this – it’s a minor gripe and tolerable, but mainland dramas omg. And that straight eyebrow look that every mainland girl is going for, drives me nuts. It looks immaculate but so ugly and so unnatural. And the guys look like they’re not even men! At least if they’re not manly, don’t go getting some manly role! Total contradiction.

    1. @coralie
I think I am only seeing flowers boys/girl in mainly Korea & China or even Taiwan but HONG KONG? Don’t they all just old veteran actors/actresses? I don’t know if I can call them flower boy/girl? haha…lol….I feel like the HK is all about matured older stars none like super young?
I do agree somewhat those flower boys are a bit too much/pretty but hey it’s like a trend just to make $$$$$$. They don’t care about manly or girly? lol..

      1. @kiki okay not flower BOYs/GIRls lol, you’re right. more like flower MEN/WOMEN. because all the tvb actors/actresses are just way too old to fit the boy/girl description anymore.

like sharon chan, for example, looks over skills. after all these yrs, she still hasn’t improved. i want to put charmaine sheh in this category too, not because she has no acting talent but because in all her dramas, she’s always so immaculate and clean-cut. she cares too much about her image. oh and raymond lam too.

      2. @coralie
LOL…when I see you guys connecting HK to flower boy/girl haha No way!!!!
Yeah, and you know what they always pair up old men w/young stars I mean come on you know… Yes, sometimes it’s weird seeing all those Korean noona/little brother pair ups but hey at least try it? but would HK do that? NEVER!! You always see these old men pairing up w/20 something now cuz all the old ones are gone anyway. haha lol…
Couldn’t have agreed with you more on snake woman and Raymond Lam..I was never a fan of either. I feel they are both so overrated but then again cuz HK is so lacking so it’s like those are all they ever talked about.

    2. @coralie

the straight eyebrow look is korean. there was a style program where the korean commentator criticized the makeup of Chinese actresses and gave Tang Wei a makeover in the korean style with straight eyebrows. Unfortunately, too many Chinese actresses are now copying this look. Complaining about Chinese actors not looking like men validates Daniel’s criticism about too many of them copying the Korean look. Thank god
Jin Dong and Wang Kai haven’t followed the trend.

      1. @msxie0714 yeah i know, the trend right now is to copy korean celebrities – makeup, look, image, etc. but i hate it. i hate how it looks, how unnatural it is, and how almost every actress/actor sport the same generic look.

even though i dislike ‘flower’ people in general, that doesn’t mean i don’t think the actors/actresses can act. it’s just disturbing to look at, but doesn’t impede their acting abilities – although sometimes it does.

  7. i don’t really mind the flower boy/girl image. i’ve always liked it back in my high school days. boys with bleached hair and eye contacts. as long as they look good, i don’t mind.

  8. I get what he means and to some extent I agree with him. But an actor is also a celebrity and so image counts and how one dress counts and that is one aspect the K celebrities understand 100% and HK celebrity may not. As for looks, admit it, if he isn’t good looking, he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere as lead actor. He wouldn’t have been given such opportunities. That being said, having talent is a sure fire way to stay in the business but knowing how to deal with publicity is the only way to stay relevant in the viewers’ mind. I am sorta tired of hearing good looking celebrities who plays down their success by first denying their looks and then upping the idea that they are super dedicated to their craft. Some are super dedicated, not that any actors are lazy, they r in fact very much into research and stuff but for whatever intrusion into their lives, their very well paid and it all begins with looks or luck or both. As for flower boy, what is flower boy anyway? Everyone starts somewhere. What is frustrating is all opportunities given to so called flower boys and those who grew older could not have the same chance even if they’re more experienced or talented. My beef with k celebrities is I can’t tell each apart and they’re usually boy bands or girl bands and their super strict no gossip no scandal style where it is becoming utterly ridiculous. One whiff of a scandal, cold storage for a year. Son got scandal, father gets the cold storage despite the fact that the son is an adult. I find that pretentious. Not that HK is any better with their over obsession with thin actresses looking like pre pubescent boys.

  9. I’m not quite sure what Daniel Wu is saying, but I think he’s just putting more emphasis on acting and reflecting the image of the character that is portrayed in the movie. For example, if the character he is supposed to represent is a poor person, he’s not going to dress like someone who is rich. He’s not going to let his own personal vanity to “look good” influence the character that is in the script. Anyways, the flower boy image is usually for the youth, from 15 years old to maybe 30 yrs old. After that, they mature and a more masculine image appears because they no longer fit that role type.

  10. I’m more curious on how Daniel secure the role of Gul’dan. Did he go for audition or director/producer invited him? Of all the actors in Hollywood, why was he chosen? Did his role in ‘Into the Badlands’ carry any weight in the decision?

    1. @kidd Into the Badlands must have placed a big part in it. He is one of the producers of that show. He has Hollywood connections now.

      1. @mike

Read some interviews of Duncan Jones and Daniel Wu. Daniel Wu was invited to audition for the roles.
He initially planned to take 1 year hiatus from acting to take care his wife, Lisa S, and their new born baby, but, the invitation came. Lisa S was reluctant to let him go to the audition (since he promised to take one year off), but, when she heard it’s Warcraft, she said he must go because she’s an avid Warcraft player. Lol.

Duncan Jones said he and Daniel knew each other before they met because they have heard of each other from a mutual friend.

  11. WOO! WAY TO GO DANIEL! Miss u so much, none of the guys these days got your manly looks. Been waiting so long for somebody to say that, YES, those lame hair styles really do affect the acting alot.

Not a crazy fan trying to support him, but his point is really correct, it’s hard to find manly actors like him now.

    1. @yoyo You are so right! I have to concur with him these flower boys suck big time! Can never understand what is the girls/world’s fascination with them from that guy from the Star something to now descendent from the Sun something. My gawd. All of them look so girlie. Daniel have good looks from when he started but not girlie look like these Koreans.

      1. @nigel
LMAO…haha lol…on your “that guy from the Star something to now descendent from the Sun something”.
lol,… I think it’s just like a trend for Korea right now or Asian countries for that matter. They just love the boyish looks. I have to agree, these 2 kids does not look like they are aging at all. lol..Esp that Star kid when I first saw him pairing up w/those noona older costars are they for real but I guess cuz if they are not too small and short then pairing w/them isn’t a problem esp in Korea. It’s literally the trend right now. You can never hardly see any older women/younger men in other countries esp HONG KONG. You will never ever see that kind of pairing. I guess it’s just luck sometimes. People like to be lost in reality to these shows and that’s how they get popular esp the Star dude… It’s all so far-fetched and fictional that will never happen in real life and people probably find solace and fantasy in that. For DOTS dude, I find him even kidder than the Star one but as I watched DOTS, he did seem he man up quite a bit. At least it’s a role that’s not a fantasy and he’s very manly adorable. Imagine that, even more of a hit b/c of that. Do I think DOTS deserve the hype, I still don’t see it but hey lots of fangirls out there who will go nuts for anything cute and a good role. It just seems to be working well for Korea right now.

    2. @yoyo i don’t know what you and @nigel been watching. There are plenty of good looking actor out there with way better acting skill than Daniel. It just come down to personal preferences.

      1. @happybi ok yeah yeah I agreed with you on the personal preference part but still I cannot agree on these Korean flower boys lol with the exception of Won Bin and Song Seong Heon. As for the rest, what can I say? I rest my case.

      2. @nigel
I don’t think we can call those 2 flower boys as they name them now. Those 2 are manly looking even in their teens so I doubt they count? haha….
Won Bin looks like he’s not on any tv show after that series or I didn’t watch I don’t know. SSH has been known to be good looking only and can not act. I don’t know about the can not act part but he does pick horrible stupid roles to play on tv dramas prob except for that East of Eden that’s interesting but all else I can barely finish 2 episodes and always ended up dropping. Won Bin is cute and he is a much better actor or he wouldn’t be on just films and not dramas.

      3. @kiki I am not too sure about their roles but you are prob right on SSH cuz I saw him last in that movie with Shu Qi. It was not a memorable role. But both he & WB are good-looking and not flower boy with funny hair, make-up & eye-liner (well some of them do). Atleast they are manly. Ok I admit I am more for the Japs of the older gen like Yutaka Takenouchi & Takeshi K.

      4. @nigel
OMG, yes. Those 2 Japanese are probably the most good looking and the cutest Jap actors. They have aged a bit now but still didn’t diminish their attractiveness. I haven’t watched anything of Yutaka Takenouchi but I goggled his face so I know exactly who he is. Takeshi – love him as a 15 year old and 10 years after he’s still cool looking to me. haha lol….Wonder if they are both married now as I don’t watch any jap dramas at all so no clue on any jap news. This site doesn’t really have Japanese drama news.

      5. @kiki love Yutaka since Long Vacation. Read before that he may be gay though. Takashi is half Japanese and half Taiwanese. Good looking for sure. There are a lot of good looking Japanese actor. jdrama is my first love but hard to find subtitle before. Kdrama have def. Taken over though. satoshi tsumabuki is another Japanese actor that I love. He has a great smile.

      6. @happybi
I just goggled satoshi tsumabuki…Oh wow…kinda cute too? haha lol… really haven’t watched any jap dramas I did tried one before but jdrama kinda don’t make sense to me. haha lol.. Hallu wave of course it’s all Korean dramas right now. I went back to HK a few years back n my mom’s friend’s family all watch kdramas like diligently. I mean I take glimpses here and there but not that hardcore haha…LOL…I guess Korean Wave will forever stay and outrank Jdramas.

      7. @kiki yes. He is a major cutie. A very good actor too. Jdrama was very popular before. But now its kdrama. I love jdrama as they take thing that is normal and make a story out of it. Its not always about love relations etc etc.

      8. @kiki same here hardly watch any drama not only Jap ones. However, I do KPC by googling etc and I don’t think Yutaka has acted in any dramas lately. He was so yummy in that Internet drama called ‘With Love’ but that drama was kinda boring la haha. While Takeshi on the other hand still starred in 1 or 2 movies a year. I love him in that Japanese AIDS drama. That role suited him to a T. Love his voice be it in Japanese, Mandarin or Cantonese. That low timbre of his but he can’t sing la. Only the spoken voice I like

      9. @nigel
        LOL…OMG me too on Takashi….haha
That was the only series I watched of him. The girl was really really young in there I heard since she’s only in her 30’s now after that many years. I don’t know how my friend came across that old series but yes he was so cute in there. It was a crappy script but it actually was inspiring in a way cuz it’s shown a reality of the youth there and AIDS. It was actually not a bad Japanese series. I have not much many jdrama esp now b/c none of them really make sense to me or I just have no patience if beginnings are not good I am a goner. haha lol…I don’t know.

      10. @nigel WB and SSH are not consider flower boy though. KSH from My Love From Another Star is consider a flower boy but he is not just look. That guy can act. And when he cries. Its very believable. I am not a huge fan of him but even I think he is a good actor. Liked I said. It down to personal preferences. You prefer the manly type. While some like the flower boys. No biggie. What I am trying to say is. Lots of flower boy can act. Especially in Japan and Korea.

      11. @happybi ok maybe then you are right. I didn’t watch that show so can’t comment on his acting but the hype over it was phenomenal to say the least. And I didn’t understand why ppl tell me he is handsome lol. All I can say is fangirls’ taste have changed drastically for the new generation. Seriously cuz guys dun look like guys anymore. LMAO

      12. @nigel ahhh thats why. You really need to watch some of these flower boy act to know why people love them. For instance i never find Jang Geun Suk attractive 5 years ago. I find him skinny and way too girly. Then I watched him in You’re Beautiful and the rest is history. I find him gorgeous now. His voice is manly and he look awesome with guyliner. 😉 its the character. It draws you in. And he is am awesome actor. Sings well too.

      13. @happybi no lah I just can’t stomach it haha. I think the only one I could stomach was Rob Pattison as Edward for that flower boy look. And no man is man so no eyeliner for me. Again I just can’t stomach it .

      14. @nigel see. Different taste as I don’t find Rob P good looking or flower boy looking. I find him to be icky/sleezy looking.

Ehheheh i don’t mind the guyliner at all. Ehehhehe it can be hot for some guys! Maybe its because I always like japanese rock. So i dont mind that look.

And honeslty if you have never watch ksh and sjk acting you will never understand why they are popular. Its not just the looks. Its how they played their role.

      15. @happybi
I am done with DOTS…I have to say after epi 14 I am kind of disappointed towards the ending. It kind of slow down quite a bit and even thou a happy ending I still didn’t find it as interesting as the beginning episodes but that’s just me of course as it wouldn’t have been so popular if ppl don’t like it. I heard the male lead even surpass the star dude and lee min ho’s popularity after Dots in China right now.

      16. @kiki well there was only 2 episode left after 14 ehhehehhehehhe gotta slow down somewhere! But yes SJK is really popular now and have surpassed KSH and LMH in China. I like all of them but they are not my favorite. Ehhehe

  12. Quite ironic because Daniel himself debuted in Bishonen (which literally means beautiful young boys).

Since young he was trained in martial arts and aspired to be action star, but he was often offered romantic, non-action roles because of his good looks. He considered his looks as hindrance, if you read his earlier years interview.

  13. I don’t know who is Daniel Wu, except as some actor in Warcraft. But I agree with his opinion. Good look is an advantage but actor should not depend on their look for popularity. An actor should honed their skill in acting instead of becoming celebrity or idol. Otherwise, they would fade when they become old.

  14. Daniel speaks my mind. I don’t like those actors with the Korean hair style, pale face, eyeliners, red lips. I’m looking forward to the day this trend fades away because it’s so ugly and not manly at all. HK actors especially the ones in their 40’s and 50’s have a more mature look that’s why they often get casted in those lead roles. I have no problem with that at all. I’d rather watch them then the “flower boys” or the Korean-Wannabe actors.

    1. @kaykay408 personally think some guys with guy liner can be very hot. Really depend on the person. Jang Geun Suk for instance looks hot with it.

    2. @kaykay408 yup indeed the hair and those make-up. I really cannot stand it. I have a friend in her late 40’s who went nuts over that Star guy and I was like (scratching head) coz she was telling me how handsome etc… he is and I was like … Emm

      1. @nigel,
You would be surprised to know one of my Korean friend’s mom who is hitting 50’s or more love love love star n dots dudes. lol…I am not kidding you. Even those adjummas are insane for them imagine teens? haha

      2. @kiki ehheheh my sis and I got our Mom to watch KDrama and she loves it! She enjoy it more than tvb now as she like the pacing and all the good looking ppl who can act. She like KSH.. The one from Star. But she started liking him since Moon embrace the sun. Her bias right now is So Ji Sub.

  15. hi all, i love kpop but i must say chinese and hk dramas are more interesting to me. i also don’t mind the flower boy/girl look.

  16. LOL!!!!! At the article in itself I have to agree because in my view, my belief, and how I feel men shouldn’t be wearing makeup or anything associated with females (this is how I’ve been raised and what I strongly believe in). If a person can act and look good, great for them. But a goodlooking guy won’t draw me to a show if they can’t act one lick….because it gets boring and annoying real fast. But agree with someone from earlier, the whole flower boy image has kinda died down….i thought it was more famous after the BOF days from 2009 and feels like it kinda ended already. I love Kdramas (since they were some of my first dramas) but when I need a mature, serious, or just realistic drama I usually watch Jdramas, HK and Chinese Dramas

      1. @m0m0 I agree but the makeups they apply to those in front of the camera are different than what we are talking about here. On camera makeups are strictly for coordination of one’s complexion with the lighting during filming.

American actors/celebs use makeups extensively but they are calibrated differently depending on racial complexions. Makeups for say Denzell Washington would be very different than for Brad Pitt and for even Daniel Wu.
