Synopsis of New Martial Arts Drama “A Fist Within Four Walls”

One of TVB’s most highly-anticipated dramas of the year, kung fu series A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄> will be hitting television screens on August 1. The period drama, produced by Line Walker <使徒行者> director Jazz Boon (文偉鴻), centers on a team of crime-fighting kung fu masters living in the triad-ridden Kowloon Walled City, a former enclave in Hong Kong. Produced at 28 episodes, the drama is expected to be one of TVB’s most action-packed martial arts dramas in recent years.

The cast of A Fist Within Four Walls features a fresh lineup, including Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), Carlo Ng (吳家樂), Jazz Lam (林子善), Grace Wong (王君馨), and Moon Lau (劉佩玥). Martial arts stars Yuen Qiu (元秋) and Philip Ng (伍允龍) also star in lead roles. Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) makes a special guest appearance.

A Fist Within Four Walls is set primarily in the 1950’s, and takes place in the Kowloon Walled City, which used to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Hong Kong. The enclave, a densely populated, largely ungoverned settlement in Kowloon City, used to be a Chinese military fort. It was an area largely controlled by local triads. The walled city was demolished in 1994.

Synopsis

A Fist Within Four Walls official posterBearing the grief of losing his family, Chor Au-kuen (Ruco Chan) returns to the Kowloon Walled City in hopes of finding his long lost sister, only to find that the very place he grew up in has become a lawless no man’s land.

Concealing his real identity as a Bajiquan master, Au-kuen creates a new identity and gets acquainted with the feisty and sassy Tiu Lan (Nancy Wu), the lady boss of a hair salon; Duen Ying-fung (Benjamin Yuen), a dentist; and But Tak-liu (Jazz Lam), a water worker. Au-kuen also impresses the highly skilled martial artist Yuk Bo-fung (Yuen Qiu), who owns a store across the street from Tiu Lan’s hair salon.

To restore law and order in the walled city, Au-kuen unites everyone to form a welfare association to resist the triads. However, this decision causes a clash between him and Bo-fung’s son Lung Shing-fu (Philip Ng), who is an underground Muay Thai fighter.

Just as things are finally getting on course, a key figure in a powerful triad mysteriously dies under the hands of a Bajiquan master. Au-kuen and Tiu Lan investigate, and their investigation leads them to Fa Man (Grace Wong), the leader of a stripping dance troupe. But one discovery leads to another, and Au-kuen finds himself uncovering the truth behind his father’s death.

The burden behind his family’s mystery may have been lifted, but not all is well. Au-kuen still carries one more painful memory that he’s unable to let go—that the one he trusts the most is actually a member of a gang of ruthless assassins.

  1. Can’t wait to see Ruco!!! But I hope his screen time will not be reduced cos of Philip or other ‘leads’. And not sure if Nancy drama back to back is a good thing for her or not.

    1. @dramadrama By the looks of the trailer and short clips released so far, Nancy seems to be playing a completely different character than the one in House of Spirits so I think it would be OK. Would’ve been different if she was playing similar characters.

  2. Saw some promotion clips, Ruco and Nancy form a cute, compatible couple. Can’t wait.

Ruco is always good to see 🙂 but Nancy again? OMG, TVB I guess that’s all tvb has now…. For veteran stars, I hope to see Kenix Kwok but I guess she’s never coming back. I like long legged Joey Meng 🙂

I guess BY is better than watching Jason Chan. lol…JC is not bad in terms of looks as well but just he acts a bit unnatural most of the time. Still didn’t move away from that newbie feel. BY, for some reason I just always remember him as another MR. HK can’t believe he suddenly made it into lead roles now.
