Wallace Huo Caresses Concubine in Upcoming Drama “Ruyi’s Royal Love”

Not long after getting married with Ruby Lin (林心如), Wallace Huo (霍建華) returned to Beijing to film his upcoming drama, Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace <如懿傳>, in which he portrays the Qianlong Emperor.

Though details about Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace have mostly been kept under wraps, photographs of a filming session were recently leaked online. That day, the drama crew was filming a scene between Emperor Qianlong and an imperial concubine.

In this particular scene, the concubine is helping grind cinnabar, all the while casting loving glances at Wallace and whispering words of endearment to him. Unable to hold back, Wallace finally takes her hand and begins playing with it. Following that, he embraces her and tenderly caresses her face.

Another scene shot that day shows an entirely different side of Wallace’s character. This scene not only contains Wallace angrily commanding that a snooping servant be arrested but also showcases him furiously pushing items off a table and kicking at them on the ground.

Because Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace takes place during the Qing Dynasty, Wallace had to shave his head to match the period’s style, which led to many netizens teasingly comparing him to a stewed egg. However, some netizens have also expressed admiration of Wallace’s standard Mandarin, which bears no Taiwanese accent.

Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace follows the life of Lady Ulanara, the second Empress Consort of Emperor Qianlong, who will be depicted by mainland Chinese actress Zhou Xun (周迅). The series is expected to continue filming until July of next year and has been hailed as a sequel-of-sorts to the acclaimed drama Legend of Zhen Huan <後宮甄嬛傳>.
