Chilam Cheung in New Movie, “Born to Love You”

China’s latest romantic comedy film Born to Love You <大叔,我爱你>, directed by newcomer Hu Chongxi (胡崇曦), arrives in mainland cinemas on January 11. The film stars Mini Fu (付梦妮) as the 18-year-old idol singer Shen Qi, who falls in love with the middle-aged Hong Kong man Fong Ka Sing, portrayed by Chilam Cheung (張智霖).

Chilam Changes His Image

The 41-year-old Chilam is known for his perpetual youthful looks, but he admitted that he grew quite tiresome in portraying the same unchallenged roles over and over again. The maturity of Fong Ka Sing in Born to Love You was what prompted Chilam to accept the role.

“I am trying my best to film as much as I can. I believe that an artist’s life in the circle is limited. You never know when you are still capable of filming. Maybe your career will last for another ten years, or maybe it will last for just another year. You will never know what will happen. Acting is a very passive career.”

Chilam has become more and more selective in his roles in recent years. Not wanting to repeat the same roles twice, Chilam has only agreed to film several television and movie projects in the last three years. “I want everyone to see a different side of Chilam every time you turn on the television screen.”

Nicholas Tse Handled Post-Production Editing

The film had its post-production completed under the supervision of Nicholas Tse’s (謝霆鋒) Hong Kong-based digital production company, Post Production Office Limited. The company, which was established in 2003, initially dabbled on the production of commercial ads, but beginning in late 2011, the company focused on the post-production of several major Hong Kong films, such as Dante Lam’s (林超賢) The Viral Factor <謝霆鋒> and Ann Hui’s (許鞍華) A Simple Life <桃姐>.

Post Production Office Limited has recently branched off to Shanghai and Beijing, hoping for the opportunity to collaborate in more mainland Chinese film productions.

    1. not into the mustash…but agree…take Chilam anytime! 😛

    2. But chilam doesn’t even look like a “mature” man. He looks dashingly handsome and it’s easy to see why any girl would find him attractive. No “uncle” feel about him at all.

On the other hand, if this movie was about a 40-something woman and 18 yr old boy, ppl would probably call the police! Can’t deny double standards.

    3. hope there is a happy ending.

i’m foreseeing some bittersweetness scenes in this movie.

  1. That’s horrible! Calling a handsome guy like Chilam “Dai Suk!”

  2. Chi Lam, he stays young forever! One of some very fine actors in hk.

  3. Here we go again. Is the same impersonator back or just someone as lazy?

    1. Funn,
Looks like different IP but can be the same person. Just treat it as a 1-second nuisance, no more.

  4. This movie will suffer the same fate as his last one “Natural Born Loser”.
