Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) is the latest Chinese artist to join the cast of Iron Man 3. The 31-year-old mainland beauty was photographed on the filming set in medical garb, portraying a nurse in the movie.
Iron Man 3 is the first major American-Chinese film production, in which China’s DMG Entertainment and Walt Disney Co. are co-producers. The Iron Man film franchise was highly successful in China, thus attracting DMG Entertainment’s involvement in the third installment.
Parts of the film were shot in Shanghai, in which mainland actor Wang Xueqi (王學圻) portrays Dr. Wu, a brilliant scientist who helps Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) in his fight against the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).
Fan Bingbing had hinted earlier that she will be entering Hollywood this year. Shortly after Iron Man 3 started filming, Bingbing became linked to the project since last May. However, Bingbing’s participation in the movie was never officially confirmed. As Wang Xueqi’s boss, Fan Bingbing had personally negotiated his filming contract with Iron Man 3′s producers, and was seen recently accompanying Wang on the filming set. Thus it is not a surprise for Bingbing to be the newest cast addition to the film.
Hoping to raise the profile of Chinese artists before the international audience, it is reported that there is still one additional role in Iron Man 3 to be cast, requiring a young Chinese actor. Online speculations emerged that Daniel Wu (吳彥祖), Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明), Eddie Peng (彭於晏), Ethan Ruan (阮經天), and Yu Shaoqun (余少群) may likely be actors that interest the producers.
Iron Man 3 also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Guy Pearce. Directed by Shane Black, the film will release on May 3, 2013 in the United States.

Daniel is not exactly young compared to Ethan Ruan, Eddie Peng or Yu Shaoqun. Besides, he’s taking paternity leave for a year.

i think you cant compare it with each other,they are both good on different genres hk movies are specialized in martial arts and gangster/cop movies,while hollywood is good in science fiction with a lot of realistic special effects and thrillers/comedies
Daniel may not be as young as his other competitors, but he has one thing they all lack: being able to speak English fluently
Daniel is only taking paternity leave after his daughter is born, who I am fairly sure is only arriving in the summer. The movie would have been completed and released by then.
Even if they did offer him a role, Daniel might turn it down considering he has a young family to take care of and all.
Daniel is less active in recent years. With his daughter coming up, he will be more more inactive to take care of his family.
chinese actor/actress in hollywood films almost always plays the minor roles unless you are jet li or jacky chan.hollywood producers only cast them for commercial purposes in the attractive china film market.
Exactly the reason whey Asians are getting a prominent role in Hollywood films now. Its just for business.
Not a bing bing fan ,so not excited about the cast cos she just too plastic face ,and if too many mainland actor this Iron men 3 ITS going to be a B great movie or just other jacket chan wantner b boring movie ….

Marvel put out the trailer 3 months ago and this movie will be released this May, due to the amount of post production these kind of movies need, dont think she has more than 1 min in this one

This time the setting of Iron Man takes place in China so she is most likely a guest star in this among with others, the main cast is already revealed, they’ve been filming for quite a while.

Fang Bing Bing will be cast as an extra with a few lines. She is just another pretty Asian face to draw in publicity for herself. No big deal. If Daniel Wu is cast, I surmise he will play a scientist helping with the upgrade of the Ironman’s suit or armament and/or looking for weaknesses in the enemy’s weaponry, etc.

Zhou Xun can hardly be considered a bimbo. She’s quite an awesome person and respected actress, having won numerous acting awards in Taiwan, HK, China and one in France. It’s not her fault that some irresponsible ‘journalist’ fabricated the Oscar nomination.
