Jay Chou Returns to Hollywood in “Now You See Me 2”
Wedding bells are around the corner for Taiwanese pop king Jay Chou (周杰倫) and his 21-year-old girlfriend Hannah Quinlivan (昆凌). Jay previously declared his intentions of getting married before the age of 36 in January, and Hannah admitted that the couple has been planning for the big day. Despite this, Jay has an upcoming December concert in Singapore and will start filming Hollywood movie Now You See Me 2 in January.
Juggling his personal life and hectic work schedule successfully has allowed Jay to remain as one of Taiwan’s top-earning artistes for multiple years. In 2014, Jay pocketed 618 million NTD in earnings after a series of sell-out concerts.
Next year, Jay will make his Hollywood comeback. Since The Green Hornet in 2011, Jay has been absent from the Hollywood film scene for four years. He will appear in Now You See Me 2, costarring alongside British actor Daniel Radcliffe and American actors Mark Ruffalo, Lizzy Caplan, and Michael Caine.
Jay’s manager, JR Yang (楊峻榮), confirmed the news about Jay’s participation in the film. JR also revealed that, after reading the script, the sequel is even more intriguing than its predecessor. The film, which is tentatively set for release in June 2016, will begin filming next month in London.

What I don’t get is how he gets cast Hollywood movies when he does not even speak much English or can he? I didn’t watch TGH so I don’t know if he’s dubbed. So many popular asian stars who can communicate well but him? Like the mortal instrumental HOT guy GODFREY GAO, he can speak well so i can understand why he get cast but this Jay? Unbelievable..
Simple reason. He has a bigger market than Godfrey Gao in Asia. It cannot be denied that Jay Chou is a superstar in Asia region and anywhere that has a huge Chinese population.
He speaks his own lines in ‘The Green Hornet’.
He did – with tremendous effort. I’m curious to see if his English has improved, because it was still pretty poor in TGH.
Actually Godfrey didnt said his lines in English. He has been dubbed later. Said in the TMI website.
Godfrey got the role not due to his popularity (as a model because he hasnt really had any hit series yet) but due to his beautiful looking. He suits the role Magnus Bane to be chosen. It is same to how Katie Leung was chosen for Cho Chang.
I’m a fan of both of them but godfrey gao isn’t that good of an actor of singer… And probably they wanted to cast an actor that has an accent for the character. Whereas in TMI, magnus bane was the typical supermodel HOT guy which was why Godfrey was chosen.
Btw In TGH, jay did speak his own lines and I think he did okay. His English is understandable.
Sorry but Magnus Bane is not the typical supermodel HOT guy. I dont know if you have read the novel TMI but Magnus is definitely not any close to typical. He is hot, yes, he is very handsome, yes, but he is an unique interesting character. The Bane Chronicles wasnt written for a typical supermodel hot guy.
Godfrey suits the role well but in TMI – City of Bones, his role has nothing much to act. Unfortunately, the second movie wont not be made, therefore Godfrey wont have any change to show his acting. Unless the TV version will re-use him.

Sorry, I didn’t literally mean Magnus is the typical supermodel hot guy. Now That I reread my comment, half the stuff I said doesn’t really make sense. I was just exaggerating about his good looks and tried to explain why Godfrey would play a certain character and why Jay would play certain character.

I don’t think Godfrey’s spoken English is that fluent either, or else why would they need to dub his lines in TMI. Also, not that Jay is a much better actor than Godfrey, but Jay has huge market appeal in the entire Asia. Whereas Godfrey is still largely unknown, even in Asia. He’s probably still more known in the fashion world tbh.

seriously… He sucks at english… he can’t even speak a proper sentence of english without the help of a script!! Just because he is famous in Asia doesn’t mean Hollywood producers have to waste tons of money on him.. sorry but he is just not worth the price.
Try.. maybe Daniel Wu or even Philippe Ng or even Andy On seriously Jay Chou

Green Hornet sucked big time and so is his acting, please do not spoil the sequel to this good movie!
