Kenneth Ma Absent at Promotions for “Impetuous Love in Action”

Although he was finally given the opportunity to appear on the silver screen, Kenneth Ma‘s (馬國明) film career is off to a shaky start after he infuriated the movie studio by failing to show up for promotional activities as promised.

After toiling at TVB for nearly fifteen years, Kenneth’s recent performances finally solidified his first-line status at the TV giant. His popularity happily served as a stepping stone for the 40-year-old to branch out into other ventures, which included an invitation to film with movie director Frankie Chan (陳勳奇) last year.

Landing a hefty role alongside Mainland stars Oscar Sun (孫堅) and Jade Lin (林芮西), Kenneth will make his first foray into film with romantic comedy Impetuous Love in Action <緣來是遊戲>. Playing a lawyer with a soft spot for beautiful flight attendants, Kenneth was allegedly very well-liked on the film set where many female colleagues flocked to give him their phone numbers.

With the film about to open on May 23, its stars are currently on a promotional tour to generate buzz. Although his contract had specifically requested his presence at three of these Mainland promotional events, Kenneth is only able to attend the film’s Beijing premiere on May 20 as he is currently busy filming TVB remake The Misadventure of Zoo <流氓皇帝>.

The movie studio was reportedly upset by his absence. Luckily, Kenneth’s friendliness and popularity may have proved to be his saving grace. Director Chan was able to quickly put out the fire by citing his good work ethics and calling him a valuable asset. Even though the situation was easily resolved, Kenneth still feels apologetic. “I understand that it is an artiste’s responsibility to help promote [the film] so I am really sorry. I happen to be filming a series right now and get only two or three hours of sleep every day. It took a lot of tweaking just to be able to attend the premiere on the 20th. I am really thankful to the director and the movie studio for their understanding.”

  1. sleeping 2-3 hr clearly TVB still hasn’t changed and they wonder why people are leaving the house… give these people some rest and sleep!

    1. I agree and wonder how the artists and other workers survive with so little sleep? If it were me, I would just fall to the ground.
