Vicki Zhao to Produce Movie Remake of “Huan Zhu Ge Ge”?

Vicki Zhao (趙薇) and her husband  Huang Youlong (黄有龙) recently became the second largest shareholders of Alibaba Pictures, paying $3 billion HKD for 9.18 percent of the company. The film company already announced ambitious film projects, including a sequel to Stephen Chow‘s  (周星驰) Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons <西遊·降魔篇>, as well as a film remake of Huan Zhu Ge Ge <還珠格格>.

Huang Youlong is also reportedly very good friends with Jack Ma (馬雲), the founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group. After Jack Ma declared plans to acquire the film rights of Huan Zhu Ge Ge, many wondered whether Vicki would be asked to produce the film version of the hit television series that propelled her to fame.

Running into some of her co-stars from Huan Zhu Ge Ge recently, Vicki was filled with nostalgia. On Ruby Lin‘s (林心如) 39th birthday, Vicki posted on Sina Weibo, “Happy birthday! Be your best self! Love you!” Many of the fans who grew up watching Huan Zhu Ge Ge and Qing Sheng Sheng Yu Meng Meng <情深深雨濛濛> were touched by the show of friendship between the two actresses, and remarked that it would be great to see the two collaborate again and see an onscreen reunion of the original cast.

  1. she looks awful in this pic, what happened to her nose? it’s so big!

    1. @m0m0
She does have big nose. I never thought she’s pretty even though she has bigger eyes then many other Chinese actresses.

    2. W/those beautiful fake teeth now, you still think she looks awful? haha I thought she looks pretty now compares to before? haha lol

    3. Her husband is rich now thanks to this nose…for a woman, the nose is her “husband’s star.” My grandparents used to read people’s face for living, and it’s surprising how accurate it is. You don’t want to marry a girl with thin and bony nose anyway.

    4. Her nose has always been like that, but she’s still pretty.

    1. I like Zhao Wei when she was Huan Zhu Ge Ge. Now she’s received nomination for Best Actress at the 34th Hong Kong Film Awards. But I’m also like Tang Wei who is nominated too. Hope she or Tang will win this year award.

  2. Wow, didn’t realize Ruby and Vicki are almost 40! I did grew up watching HZGG too. I’m not sure I really like ancient period movies, but I like the idea of the cast collaborating again.

  3. They are too old to play their Huan Zhu Ge Ge characters. But, I would like to see them reunite in a different film.

  4. I would tune in if there was a prequel [including original cast]. Such as how their lives ended [Excluding season 3 ENTIRELY]. I want to know how the princess vicki portrayed, died, and what became of her burial, etc.. <- If someone know, can you fill me in? I stumbled upon a website about it being based on an actual princess?

    1. Do you mean sequel? Because prequel is before it all happens…
