Wong Jing’s “Princess and Seven Kung Fu Masters” in Theaters March 8
Comedy lovers, who crave a bit of kung fu in the mix, can now look forward to Princess and Seven Kung Fu Masters <笑功震武林> which will premiere on March 8.
The film is directed by Wong Jing (王晶) and starring Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍), Sandra Ng (吳君如), Eric Tsang (曾志偉), Ronald Cheng (鄭中基), Sammo Hung (洪金寶), Yuen Wah (元華), and Philip Ng (伍允龍). The comedic cast will bring lots of laughter to the audience by incorporating Bollywood-inspired dancing and choreography.
The trailer of Princess and Seven Kung Fu Masters is a parody on martial arts films in which Cho Lam attempts to learn powerful martial arts and win the love of a beautiful lady. From Sandra’s head full of fruits to Cho Lam cross-dressing as a woman, the actors and actresses do not mind showcasing their unflattering side to the audience in order to generate laughs.
Wong Cho Lam admits that there is nothing the cast would not do in order to make the movie funnier and sillier. “During filming, we tried to avoid eye contact and not directly look at one another because someone is bound to burst out laughing. There was a scene where Eric had to drink pee and everyone on set was laughing like crazy.”
The movie’s theme song follows the tune of Richie Jen’s (任賢齊) famous classic, “The Girl Across is Looking Over” <對面的女孩看過來>. With new lyrics and performed by the multi-talented Wong Cho Lam, the theme song features another aspect to smile about.
Aside from rewriting and singing the theme song, Wong Cho Lam also acted as the improv producer on set. He would constantly share ideas and suggestions with Wong Jing in order to make a particular scene funnier, which also got the approval of Sandra and Eric. Wong Jing said, “Wong Cho Lam is a natural at coming up with these funny scenes, so I am open to adopting his suggestions.”
With Wong Cho Lam’s involvement in the film, he is proving to audiences that there is nothing this ambitious actor cannot tackle.

Are you on Wong Jing’s payroll Natalie? I’ve never laughed at any of Wong Jing’s movies in my life, and if I ever had to laugh at something, it would be how this sad sack is still in business. And that’s not even funny-laughter, it’s a laugh of pity and irony.

I’m sure. Fight back to school 1 and 2 were only produced by Wong Jing. When he finally got to direct the 3rd movie, it was a complete trainwreck.

I couldn’t laugh at these because the drama and themes were so heavy when I watched it back when I was like 12
I kind of enjoyed Tricky Brains but that was when I was 7 and didn’t know any better. It just feels to me that WJ hasn’t really evolved over the years. His concept of comedy hasn’t changed and I attribute this to him no watching other people’s movies. You need diversity to perfect your own craft, and this is what he lacks. I mean, he criticized Stephen Chow for only being interested in money, but he’s EVEN WORSE when he puts out like 3 crappy films a year without the consideration Chow puts into each of his films.

Although I do agree that Wong Jing’s movie are crap nowadays, Stephen Chow as a person is a horrible person. He really does thinks of money and money only. He doesn’t care about any relationships. However, he does puts in a lot of effort into his movies.
He does. He’s pretty much the same as Wong Kar Wai, months and possibly years of editing or retakes on set until they get the perfect shot. I guess the only difference is that WKW has been doing this for many many years which means he might take long, but he does it so that he can balance his family life and direct movies at the same time.
