Fred Cheng Films New MV and Prepares First Solo Concert

Busily promoting his new studio album The Story of a Panda <熊貓的故事>, Fred Cheng (鄭俊弘) has a packed schedule. His first solo concert will take place in November.

Fred’s single “Nobody” <無名氏> was a commercial success, peaking at number one on TVB’s JSG charts, number two on the 997 chart, and number three on the RTHK chart. His follow-up single “Panda” <熊貓> was a hit, peaking at number one on three of Hong Kong’s major music charts and number two on 903 chart. Regarding the popular reception of his songs, Fred said, “It definitely gives me a shot of confidence. I will work hard for my concert.”

Currently, Fred is preparing for the release of his third single “Light My Fire” <點火>. He filmed the music video at a sports field. The single, which was the last song Fred recorded for his album, was tailor-made for him. He disclosed, “The company knew that my fans wants to see me playing the guitar, so they produced this song for me. In the beginning, there is a segment where I have my solo. Hopefully I can play my [guitar] solo live for everyone [at the concert].”

Fred’s first solo concert, the Welcome to My Dreams concert, will be held at the Star Hall of the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Center on November 1. Fred injured finger recently, raising concerns over his upcoming guitar performance. Fred said the injury occurred a few days ago while walking his dog; his dog had made a sharp turn on the stairway and he slammed his finger against the wall.

“It bled a lot. I thought about going to the hospital as it looked like I might have to get stitches. However, I decided against it because I don’t want to waste any more time. Being in hospital can take hours. I went home and used rubbing alcohol, but that was very painful. Afterwards, I went downstairs to the pharmacy and they fixed it for me. The injury is okay now. It’s healing, but it’ll most likely leave a scar.”

Will his injury affect his guitar solo performance? Fred said he immediately tried playing the guitar with his bandaged finger, and was relieved to know that he could still play. He hopes that his finger will heal by the time of the concert.

Fred said that his mother, grandmother, and uncle from Canada will be supporting him at his concert. His friends and other relatives from Canada will also be coming.

  1. Fred can handle songs of different styles very well. Look forward to his first concert @KITEC 111.

    1. One word “Wasted”. Why is he singing sappy songs now? I thought his choice of songs was really good during the Voice of Stars? Now, he is signing up to change into another typical sappy song. Don’t you think the first song “Nobody” and “Panda” sounded the same? Did he signed up to another crappy sappy emo song writer?
