Janice Vidal Levels Up Workout with Dragon Boating

In a hurry to shed the extra pounds in time for her upcoming concert this year, Janice Vidal(衞蘭) documented her weight loss journey and compiled it into a reality online series, Janice Works Out, as a way to motivate herself and others who are also struggling to keep fit. In last week’s episode, Janice ran up 27 flights of stairs to reach to her recording studio. However, Janice had made slow progression in her weight loss, and only lost about one two pounds after ten days of exercise.

As the day of the Dragon Boast Festival draws closer, Janice decided to “level up” her workout by putting herself through a vigorous dragon boat exercise for the second episode of her weight loss series. With the help of a local competitive dragon boat racing team, Janice paddled across the Hong Kong coastline under hot and humid weather.

After learning the basics of dragon boat paddling from the team’s leader Siu Keung, Janice quickly stepped into the watercraft. Halfway through the race course, Janice slowed down and looked exhausted from the workout. Nonetheless, she successfully completed the course with her team. In the end, the teammates splashed water at each other in celebration.

“This is a fantastic experience,” said Janice. “This is my first time doing it. I’m really happy. It’s also really tiring. It looks simple to do, but it’s actually not simple at all! I really experiencing this type of team spirit!”

  1. Yes Janice ballooned up excessively but this weightless reality clips thing sounds like a PR ploy.

  2. I just hope that her body can adjust to the sudden weight loss. Some people died from it before… 🙁

  3. She looks happy in dragon boating, so it was probably more fun than running up staircase. Anxiety will deter weight loss, and may even cause death if not done properly.

  4. 1-2 lbs in ten days is great! It’s not like she has a ton to lose, so it’s gonna take some time.
