Raymond Lam and Pakho Chau are Top Winners at Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards 2013

Raymond Lam (林峯) and Pakho Chau (周柏豪) both walked away with three trophies at the Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards 2013 <Yahoo人氣大獎2013> on December 1. An annual event, the awards acknowledge the year’s most popular artists based on the number of web searches and page views conducted through the Yahoo! search engine. Fans are also urged to vote for their idols in a special polling segment.

Although he does not have any representative work this year, Raymond was surprisingly a big winner on yesterday, bringing home the Hottest Image Search Male Singer award as well as the Most Popular Micro Movie and Most Popular Micro Movie Theme Song awards for his effort in Give Me 1 Minute to Say I Love You <愛在魅來1分鐘>. He thanked his fans for the win, and expressed surprise since he spent most of his time this year working in China.

Raymond has also been focused on his girlfriend Karena Ng (吳千語). The two were frequently spotted together since Raymond returned to Hong Kong. With his thirty-fourth birthday coming up on December 8, Raymond unsurprisingly has plans to spend the day with Karena though kept mum about the details.

Pakho Chau Films Nude Scene in Horror Movie

Raymond’s rumored love rival Pakho Chau was also present at the ceremony on Sunday. Earlier, local tabloids had alleged that Karena was flirting with Pakho in an effort to make Raymond jealous and speed up marriage plans. Raymond and Karena later released a statement denying these claims.

At twenty-nine, Pakho has already built a solid fan base and is making good progress in both music and film. He picked up a Local Male Singer award at the ceremony, and was also recognized for his single My Vow <我的宣言>, which earned the Most Popular Song and Best Songwriting awards.

Pakho recently returned from Thailand after filming for Four Nots <四非>. Directed by Jill Wong (黄柏基), who specializes in the horror genre, the film stars Pakho as a killer with a deformed face. Pakho puts his professionalism to the test with this challenging role. He described filming in a large landfill, lying completely naked amongst discarded trash.

Recalling this particularly unpleasant filming experience, Pakho shared, “I was filming a dying scene and was covered with fake blood made with sugary syrup. Tens of thousands of flies surrounded me and tried to get into any and all openings on my body….” Despite the harsh working conditions, Pakho managed to complete the scene after three long days, and joked that he eventually became good friends with the attacking insects.

Is Yahoo the prevalent search engine in Asia? Because if not, that’s hardly that impressive though obviously, it’s always better to win an award than not. Unless it’s the Razzie.

  3. I quite like Pakho despite what the media makes of him, he’s one of the few artiste that writes and compose his songs in HK.
