Rene Liu to Release New EP “For the Loved” After Three-Year Hiatus

After sustaining a knee injury in 2011, Taiwanese singer/actress Rene Liu (劉若英) took a break from her singing career, opting instead to take on starring roles in five movies throughout the year. After a three-year hiatus, she will return to the music world with her new EP For the Loved <親愛的路人>, which will be released on May 10. Recently, Rene released two new singles, “For the Loved” and “Happiness is Not a Love Song.”

For the Loved, which literally translates to “Dear Passerby,” is a collection of Rene’s experiences and revelations regarding love. The EP will be a mix of musical styles, from lyrical to rock ‘n roll to ballad to electronic.

Currently, two of the EP’s singles have been released. The title track, “For the Loved” <親愛的路人>, is composed by Kimura Mitsutoshi (木村充利), whose most famous work is “Those Years” <那些年>, the theme song from the 2011 romance film You Are the Apple of My Eye <那些年,我們一起追的女孩>. “For the Loved” also boasts lyrics from award-winning lyricist Albert Leung (林夕).

The second single, “Happiness is Not a Love Song” <幸福不是情歌>, is written and composed by Chen Weiling (陳韋伶) and Huang Ting (黃婷), who previously teamed up for Rene’s hit song “We Are Not Together” <我們沒有在一起>. “Happiness is Not a Love Song” was immediately snapped by up Sanlih E-Television to be featured as the ending theme for their drama Two Fathers <兩個爸爸>. The song took two months to complete, because producer Zhong Chenghu (鐘成虎) kept revising the musical arrangement and rerecording the vocals in order to produce a satisfactory result.

Although the full tracklist has not yet been revealed, it will feature works from four of Taiwan’s most well-known female singer-songwriters: Cheer Chen (陳綺貞), Chen Xiaoxia (陳小霞), Peggy Hsu (許哲佩), and Lala Hsu (徐佳瑩). Rene has also gathered four celebrated male producers to help with her new release: Zhong Chenghu, Chen Jianliang (陳建良), Zhang Yadong (張亞東), and Mayday (五月天) member Masa (瑪莎).

    1. Her complexion is freaking gorgeous for her age. I don’t think it’s makeup because it matches the rest of her skin tone.

    2. It’s photoshop. If you watch “Love in Space”, you’ll see that she has aged quite modestly.
