2017 Miss Chinese International Contestants Meet the Press

Contestants for the upcoming Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017 met up with the Hong Kong press on Thursday, January 5. This year, sixteen candidates from eleven countries around the world will be competing for the MCI crown.

The Miss Chinese International Pageant, hosted by TVB, handed out its first crowns in 1998. Miss Hong Kong winner Michelle Reis (李嘉欣) was the first MCI beauty queen. Other famous MCI contestants include Christy Chung (鐘麗緹), Melissa Ng (吳美珩), Michelle Ye (葉璇), Bernice Liu (廖碧兒), Linda Chung (鐘嘉欣), Leanne Li (李亞男), and Eliza Sam (岑麗香).

Diversity is marking this year’s beauty pageant. #2 Gam Wonglappanich (汪雅妮) from Bangkok, Thailand stands at a tall height of 5 foot 8 inches, while the shortest, #10 Alice Zhang (張高瑀) from Montreal, Canada, is at 5 foot 5 inches.

Hong Kong’s own representative, 2016 Miss Hong Kong winner Crystal Fung (馮盈盈), is the the lightest contestant at 101 pounds. The heaviest is #16 Maria Rincon (王思思) from Vancouver, Canada, at 144 pounds. Both Crystal and #5 Serene Lim (林宣妤) from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are noted for catching the eyes of the press.

Cantonese doesn’t seemed to be a strong suit for our 2017 candidates. #7 Janne Zeng (曾琳) from Manila, Philippines mispronounced “year” when she was introducing her age. #8 Gloria Rong (戎瑀) from Melbourne, Australia spoke broken Cantonese.

  1. Some of them look pretty bad imo. The girl from Bangkok looks good. #16 doesn’t look 144 lbs. Looks pretty fit!

      1. @cutie777 Yea her dad is Portuguese and mother’s Chinese (Shanghainese to be specific). But he left the family when the kids were young. Michelle can look slightly mixed in some photos, but she favors her Chinese side I guess.

  2. The number on a scale is simply what it is anyways, a number. As long as the person is healthy and feels happy! Also have to consider the height also, I mean it would be unrealistic to expect girls of all height to be 100.
