Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung Join “From Vegas to Macau 3”

After the success of the first two installments, Wong Jing (王晶) returns to direct From Vegas to Macau 3 <賭城風雲III>. The movie boasts a superstar cast consisting of Chow Yun Fat (周潤發), Carina Lau (劉嘉玲), Nick Cheung (張家輝). Andy Lau (劉德華) and Jacky Cheung (張學友) are new additions in the sequel.

It is confirmed that Andy will be reprising his popular role, Dao Jai, from God of Gambler <賭神>. Similar to his role decades ago, Andy appeared at the blessing ceremony in a red leather jacket and classic blue jeans. Although Andy lamented that he would not be able to retain his hairstyle from the 1989 classic, Andy felt it was very refreshing to play the same character 26 years later.

Andy also voiced his happiness in being able to work with Fat Gor and Nick together. Besides the rare opportunity for the trio to collaborate, From Vegas to Macau 3 also gave a chance for Andy and Jacky to share stories about their family life.

Producer Charles Heung (向華強) will also be making a special appearance in the movie.

  1. I can’t stand Wong Jing and I probably won’t like the story much either, but I am still absolutely going to watch this movie (for obvious reasons)! The cast alone is enough to motivate me to watch, plus all the nostalgia of the 80s/90s era when the HK film industry was at its peak….just watching the blessing ceremony was enough to bring back all those memories of the ‘good old days’ for me! And so many ‘reunions’ in this movie too — God of Gamblers (Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Charles Heung), Eighth Happiness (Chow Yun Fat and Jacky Cheung), Days of Being Wild (Carina Lau, Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung)…of course, having Nick Cheung in there too (reprising his role from the 2nd installment) is an added bonus. Sure, this will probably be the most expensive HK movie of the decade (which is probably why there are so many big name production companies investing in the movie), but I’m sure it will be well worth it given the big bucks the movie is pretty much guaranteed to pull in based on the A-list cast alone. It’s rare to hear me say this nowadays, but I’m actually looking forward to the 2016 HK movie season!

  2. From Vegas to Macau 1 was bad. From Vegas to Macau 2 was worst. But I’m still going to watch it because of the cast.
From Vegas to Macau 2 was really bad though so there won’t be any expectations for the 3rd.

  3. Both V2M are bad! Wong Jing is so yesterday. He had lost his touch and magic long ago. Fat Gor deserves better script and association than this rubbish franchise. Oh Jack. What were you thinking taking on this movie. Noooooooo.

    1. @jjwong Agree with you about Wong Jing. Definitely not going to have much expectation for the 3rd installment, plus it’s already slated to air around Chinese New Year anyway, so we already know it’s not going to be any type of ‘serious’ movie but rather another rowdy comedy. With that said,  I actually don’t mind Jacky doing this movie, since he only has a guest-starring role anyway and it’s not like his career or reputation will suffer from being associated with this project… besides, he already made 2 other ‘serious’ movies prior to this, so it’s not a bad way to loosen up…I see it more as a fun gathering of old friends.  Also, since this will be Jacky’s last movie in a long while (after filming is done, his focus will be on preparing for his world tour concert), I’m happy to see him have fun with it and enjoy it. The movie itself may be nothing to shout about from an artistic standpoint but at least the filming process will be enjoyable for those involved.

      1. @llwy12 Jacky on World Tour???? EEEEEK!!!! Keep me posted please!!! I’m sure he’ll come to LAX or Vegas. Even though I’m on the East Coast, I’ll definitely try to make it there. I hope he gets better venue than the one he had done in Vegas way back when. Their sound systems sucked big time.

      2. @jjwong Will do.  No official announcement has been made yet and no dates have been set either – but Jacky did mention at his fan club birthday celebration as well as at the promo events for his previous movie Helios (which was in theatres in May) that he is in the planning stages for his concert, which will definitely happen in 2016 (though by the looks of it, probably won’t be until mid to end of next year).  Also, he already did his ‘warm-up’ mini-concert a few months ago (the last couple world tours, he usually does a mini-concert before the ‘big one’ to test the waters and get himself warmed back up to the stage), so that’s another indication he is getting ready for another tour.

Yes, I’m sure Jacky will come to Vegas again for his next concert tour, though how many shows he will have remains to be seen.  He only came to U.S./Canada once on his last tour (2011/2012’s ½ Century Concert tour) versus twice on the tour prior to that (2007/2008 Year of Jacky Cheung concert tour), so it’s hard to say.  In terms of venue – well, if he does come to Vegas again, it is pretty much guaranteed to be at Caesar’s Palace again, since that’s one of the better facilities and usually where all the ‘big names’ perform.  We’ll see though…will definitely let you know if I hear more confirmed info.

      3. @llwy12 Appreciate it! CP had horrible sound system. At times, the instrumental music was too loud and drowned his vocal. Regardless, I will still go again. Hopefully; His tix got sold out so fast. I got 1/2 Century via a friend of a friend of a friend who couldn’t make it. I couldn’t get Year of the JC at all. Anyways, hopefully I can actually buy my own tickets waaaaay in advance this time around 🙂

  4. I miss Sharla Cheung that played God of Gambler’s wife. Though she’s a classic Chinese look, 沒有妖氣只有美麗.

  5. Agree. Both V2M story line are…really really super horrible. All the key casts are really wasted.

  6. all of these sequel makes me even miss Stephen Chow even more… even though he parody the movie and was more like a spin off, but it was such a huge hit only if Stephen was willing only to do a cameo it would be awesome.
