Andy Lau Supports Wayne Lai’s Musical

Theatrical play Scars of the Sea <星海留痕>, starring Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Joyce Koi (蓋鳴暉), and Emily Kwan (關寶慧), received good feedback. Written by the award-winning Raymond To (杜國威), the biographical play about the 1930s Cantonese opera star Tang Man Mei premiered its first show on November 8 at the Sunbeam Theatre.

Many celebrities came to support the show, including Wayne’s Overachievers <名門暗戰> costars Raymond Cho (曹永廉) and Raymond Wong Ho Yin (黃浩然). TVB executive Catherine Tsang (曾勵珍), Liza Wang (汪明荃), and Raymond Wong Pak Ming (黃百鳴) also went to support Wayne.

The most surprising guest was Andy Lau (劉德華), who made a low profile appearance to support Raymond To. To not cause distractions, Andy did not settle into his seat until after the show started.

Andy visited the cast offstage and expressed that he wants to try performing a theatrical play in the future. He also wants to work with Raymond To in a new project, as well as Wayne and Joyce as well.

Though Joyce, who portrays Tang Man Mei, is a professional Cantonese opera singer herself, she finds Tang’s voice difficult to master. Wayne, who does not have an opera background, said he experienced a lot of stress during the preparations of Scars of the Sea. In addition to singing, Wayne also had to put on old-age makeup, a first in his career. As Wayne’s skin is very sensitive, the stylists prepared a molded mask for Wayne to wear with the old-age makeup. To lessen agitation, he put on the mask only five minutes before showtime.

Scars of the Sea’s last performance will play on November 17.

    1. you must be new here, this is the addy’s style of writing to attracts more viewers attention.

  2. I would very much wanna watch a live play like this if there is chance. But as long as the ticket isn’t too pricey. Wayne isn’t a singer and I would prefer someone with proven records who can sing well like Jacky Cheung. Maybe even Ram Chiang might be a good choice since he was a singer.

    1. Agree. It will be Wayne Lai’s first musical. Should find out if he is good or not, esp. in singing.

      1. It was a live show I am glad I attended. It was awesome! Everyone in the team id a great job!

Wayne is obviously great as he sang with emotion as there are a number of emaotional scenes between his charater and Joyce’s.

I will definitely go again if there is another one in the near future.

    2. I am very happy I attended which initially was not sure if I should. But definitely very happy to see my favourite act and sing live! He is very good.
