Anita Yuen’s 10-Year-Old Son is Popular With the Girls

Appearing on talk show, Friends <天下第一Friend>, Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) spoke about her early acting career. As someone who is not afraid to speak her mind, Anita has offended many people, including Jackie Chan (成龍)After Anita criticized the poor scripts found in TVB dramas, her jobs at the station were suspended.

Anita laughed, “I entered the [Miss Hong Kong 1990] pageant because I was pretty! But when I entered the entertainment industry and saw Loletta Chu (朱玲玲) and Elizabeth Lee (李美鳯), I thought their beauty was out of this world. Right then and there, I told myself that I should switch to acting because if I were to rely on being a beauty queen – tough luck!”

Because of her confidence after winning the crown, Anita admitted to complaining directly to producers over illogical TVB scripts. When her complaints remained unaddressed, Anita went straight to the media. Recalling her wrongdoings as a newcomer, Anita exclaimed, “My biggest problem was that I complained to the paparazzi – how could a big company be able to tolerate my nonsense!”

After angering TVB, Anita was given a hosting job for a music program. She sighed, “I didn’t know how to sing; I didn’t know any of the songs. I couldn’t name the song titles. I didn’t even like hosting. I felt very disheartened, but I was very lucky that Blackie To (柯受良) cast me in my first film role.”

Fortunately, Anita made an acting breakthrough in the film industry and even won Best Actress twice at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

Against Morton From Entering Industry

In the recent years, Anita has chosen to spend more time at home with her son, Morton Cheung (張慕童). Although she was previously a very tough mom, Anita learned to let Morton have a bit of fun after a particular parent-teacher meeting.

“We were at a parent-teacher meeting one time. When the teacher asked what Morton normally does on a daily basis, I proudly started listing all the courses and extra-curricular activities he had during the week. The teacher immediately asked me how Morton would even have time to play? I was in shock when I heard that and Chilam Cheung (張智霖), who sat beside me, quietly said, ‘See, I’ve told her that before but she still insisted!’ I wanted to disappear at that moment, but after that, I gave up on being a super strict parent!”

Coming from a family of actors, many wondered if young Morton inherited an acting gene. Anita firmly replied, “No – his acting is horrible! I don’t want him to enter the industry. It’ll just be a hundred times harder for him in this field just because Chilam and I are his parents.”

Although Anita said Morton’s acting was not good, she praised him for having the traditional good looks of Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and a comical personality of Stephen Chow (周星馳). Anita laughed, “He’s a handsome boy and he’s very funny and charismatic. A lot of girls will definitely like him in the future!”

  1. Although he is cute, I don’t see Morton asr very good looking or handdome. He can turn out to be really handsome as he is so young and his facial features can change. For now he is just cute. Just my opinion.
