TVB ex-actress Anne Heung (向海岚) will be returning to showbiz and start filming for dramas soon. Anne joined TVB after winning the Ms Hong Kong pageant in 1998. Since then, she had been starring in many popular dramas namely, The Legend of Lady Yang <楊貴妃>, Love is beautiful <無頭東宮>, Riches And Stitches <鳳舞香羅> and Au Revoir Shanghai <上海傳奇>. Anne left the entertainment industry in 2008 to work in a property development company owned by Loretta Chu’s (朱玲玲) husband, Vincent Lo (羅康瑞).

Anne Prepares to Open a Wedding Planning Company

After working for four years, Anne left the company and decided to venture into her own business. She will partner with a friend in Hong Kong to start her wedding planning company, which specializes in planning destination weddings for Chinese couples. Anne revealed that she will invest a 6-figure sum into her new endeavour.

Makes a Comeback in Dramas

Anne’s appearances in The Legend of Lady Yang and Love is Beautiful were well received by many viewers. While working in Shanghai, there had been many invitations for her to film Chinese dramas and performing in musical shows. Still embracing a passion in acting, Anne will reinstate her acting career while working on her new business.

Anne’s manager is in the midst of negotiating acting deals for Anne, and it is expected that she will start filming her first drama at the end of the year. Based in China, Anne will first accept filming Mainland Chinese dramas. However, Anne shared that she missed working with her former colleagues such as Mariane Chan (陈妙瑛), Gigi Lai (黎姿) and Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), and hoped to reunite with them again onscreen.

OMG that’s awesome! I want her back in TVB :) I used to really like her when I was a small kid !

    2. Nicole says:

      She can’t act.

      • HeTieShou says:

I agree that she cannot act and is not good looking either. I am still shocked that she won MS HK back then. Gigi and Marianne are both retired now so her chances of working with them are next to none right now. TVB is desperate now so they will take anyone back regardless if they are good or bad.

        • jacq says:

HTS, this is very very RUDE you judge ppl in this manner. If you think that you’re prettier than Anne, then dont be coward to come forward and show yourself!!

        • jacq says:

To me all of them are pretty. Don’t be jealous of them just because you don’t look good with yourself.

        • Silvia lee says:

She does that in almost every thread. She complains about all these girls having plastic surgery, looks ugly or girls are all gold diggers yadi yadi.

          She’s a hypocrite.

        • sandcherry says:

I also agree that Anne Heung was not that pretty as Miss Hong Kong. However, it is rather subjective to make judgement on “prettiness”. If you think all winners crowned Miss Hong Kong were pretty, your requirements must be pretty low.

        • HeTieShou says:

          @Jacq,
First of all,I was only stating my opinion ok. I did not even call her ugly and here you are blasting me. You have NO right to call me rude. I bet you are a big fan of hers so you are reacting that way. You have to remember that this is NOT a fan site. I never said that I was pretty. I am not a public figure either so why should I show myself?? I think any normal citizen can look just as good if not better than celebs if they had all of the proper make up, PS,etc… If you can’t take criticism of your idol then you need to grow up!!

          @Silvia lee,
You have no right to call me a hypocrite. There are many others that complain and all but you target me. This is Jayne’s site and if she is OK then NONE of you have the right to say anything!!!

        • HeTieShou says:

          @Jacq,
Dude, I am NOT jealous since they have all of the money and stuff to “look” or decent…. If they took all that away, I wonder how they would all really look??? Others that read my message would not be offended at all since I did not say anything over the top. You would only be sensitive and go crazy if you are obsessed with Anne which I think you are…

        • Silvia lee says:

I have a right to make any opinion I want, just like you have an opinion with all these girls.

I target you because you complain about other people’s opinion and you make similar comments on other celebrities that you don’t like. That is what hypocrites do. So simple.

        • HeTieShou says:

          Silivia,
You say what you want so you no right to say anything bad to me since you do not even know me. If you think I complain a lot, you obviously have not read others’ comments in here. Do you even know what the word hypocrite means?? You must love my comments to follow them so closely..,

      • Ice says:

I agree her acting wasn’t that good. If she makes a comeback then good for her.

HeTieShou comment wasn’t nasty, so please don’t overreact. Not good looking doesn’t equal ugly.

    3. Hannah says:

She’s not the best, but looking at TVB’s pool of artists, Anne stands out now.

      • Nicole says:

No way, even the current five fadans are better than her in most ways. She’s mediocre in looks and acting, like Shirley Yeung.

    4. sm says:

o yeah she’s comin back to tvb I hope more artist comes back like her

    5. Larry 3 says:

She’s ok. I will still like to see her back to TVB dramas some day.

    6. smile says:

I was never a big fan….but she has her qualities. For some reason…only me?? There are some angles that I think she looks really pretty…then there are some that I don’t think makes her look very attractive. But she has a more mature beauty to her look.

      • Nicole says:

Nah, I do think she’s pretty, but when I called her mediocre along with Shirley Yeung, I meant mediocre among the MHK/MCI winners, she’s not exactly stunningly beautiful or charismatic that makes me dismiss her lack of acting skills. One series that I liked her in was Riches and Stitches, as the three leading ladies, all have the suitable pre-modern looks, fair skin and figure for showing off the cheongsams.

        • Silvia lee says:

I agree, Anne hung carried the clothing the best IMO. She has a really nice figure.

        • Funn Lim says:

She looks best in qipao because she stands straight and she has a swan like neck.

        • Nicole says:

Indeed. Melissa Ng and Gigi were also very beautiful in cheongsam too.
You will be hard-pressed to find suitable TVB actresses to act in the titular roles today. The five fadans are either too modern, too old, too manly, too vixen to bring out the grace and femininity of the qipao.

        • vivien says:

How TVB Executive Favourites Linda, Myolie, Kate, Fala and TY represent qipao

Linda: Body too manly. Qipao got no shape
Myolie: Too agressive and modern looking. Made qipao look like fighting suit
TY: Old looking. Might look older when wear qipao.
Kate: Vixen looking. Qipao lost its elegance
Fala: Better than the rest, but too controlled. Lack the elegant charm.

          LOL

        • vivien says:

Agreed. Anne carried qipao very well. Gigi Lai is great in qipao too

        • Nicole says:

Actually I included Fala as too vixen with Kate.
          http://rs.bift.edu.cn/Post/zgqp/00000001/Image/64597?code=0000
See this. Her make up and dress are pretty plain, but still give off a evil look.

        • Kidd says:

I agree that Anne is not a great beauty, but, s has a certain grace that makes her very ladylike.

        • Funn Lim says:

Kidd, agreed. She has elegance and very lady like, rare these days in TVB.

        • lychii04 says:

Glad im not the only one who thinks so. Her smile is a very ‘gentle’ smile too. I used to dislike her in evil roles, but the thing is, she actually pulls it off well enough

        • Addy says:

@Nicole – That is a very unfortunate picture of Fala.

And yes, I also think Anne is very ladylike. I do not think she’s a beauty, but she’s not that bad of an actress. She pulls off certain roles very well. I actually really liked her in “The W Files”

        • Nicole says:

I was trying to find photos of fala in a pre-modern cheongsam, and that was the best I could find. Can you find any better photos of her from that era?
But anyways, I do think Fala is prettier than Anne. However, she does not have the gentle air. I think her features are too sharp thus giving off a vixen look even though she’s wearing a plain cheongsam.

    7. sandcherry says:

I never liked Anne Heung’s acting especially in her 1st lead roles. However, I think she picked up some acting skills after she was downgraded to act support roles.

Won’t mind to watch her again.

    8. Lucia says:

Recently, I rewatched Golden Faith and I saw her in there, and I wonder what she has been doing. Then, today I came across this news.

Hopefully, she comes back to act in TVB series. She is pretty but based on that picture, it seems like she gains a bit of weight and ages a little bit. But, she still looks cute.

    9. Funn Lim says:

If it is Mariann Chan, I will say great news. Anne Heung, not good news since she is a at best mediocre actress when she retired. BUT since it is China production, a bit of dubbing will do her some good.

      • Nicole says:

Since it will be a china production, and she isn’t exactly popular or well known, and she isn’t young enough to be cast in main roles, I think the most she will get are small insignificant supporting roles, nothing like the ones Sheren or Michelle Yim have.

    10. sandcherry says:

Anne mentioned that she wanted to control her future by pursuing her own career, and not controlled by TVB’s producers. I guess she decided to act another drama series in order to promote her future business – wedding planning company.

    11. Ita says:

Eh, surprise that this even in news. I thought she is always in supporting roles? Didnt see anything special on her. Look so so, acting so so…

    12. anoninhk says:

wow, is that a recent pic? cos she looks good! better than in her tvb days. anyway, not a fan of her. as a lot of posters have said already, she is at best a mediocre actress. as long as she’s not given any prominent roles, i don’t mind seeing her again though.

    13. sushiroll says:

      please film for tvsh*t again.

    14. skinnymocha says:

Aw, I like Anne – despite her lack of acting abilities. Especially in period/ancient dramas (with Kong Wah) and I think she carries herself very well. Her face is a bit flat but I still find her pretty.

      • lychii04 says:

If Kong Wah comes back, ill be over the moon. He has such a regal grace that none of the actors nowadays can even come close. Probably why TVB ancient/palace series are so crappy.

        • sandcherry says:

I love watching Kong Wah, too. He is good looking and he acts well. However, I heard that he is a moody artiste, and is not very adaptable and flexible.

I want to watch him again on TVB drama series. Hope they will get him to act one or two drama series.

        • Addy says:

Well, it seems like Kwong Wa is in good relations with TVB, as he was a guest in a recent variety show of theirs. But he did complain about TVB’s harsh working conditions alot. Unless TVB decides to slow down their pace (like what they’re doing with Triumph II), I can see Kwong Wa returning.

        • KD says:

Same here! I miss him in TVB series. His mainland series is not good at all.

      • elin says:

omg kong wah love him.. actually anne is not bad in her acting skills… i think she has vry feminine features.. the way she carries herself elegant n graceful. wouldnt mind seeing her..

    15. Clementine says:

ah thank God..many here have the same opinion..

She can’t act. Give no hoots..whether she comes back or not..

    16. YQ says:

I’m sorry but I really don’t think she’s a good actress. For one, I watched her in Golden Faith and I cringed every time she took a deep breath.

No offense to any of her fans, but her return seems to be for the worst and not otherwise. :/

    17. Jenn says:

She can’t act, but she has this elegance about her. I thought her one of her performances was quite good but I can’t remember the english name of the series now, its roughly translated from Cantonese as “lipstick powder”

    18. Danny says:

Anne is not the best actress but she can act evil roles. Like the The Charm Beneath and Love Beautiful.

Villain roles are the best for Anne! :) )

    19. Theresa says:

Great! I like her. She has this gentle appealing acting.

      • goddessofkrw says:

I agree with you. I think she’s really elegant.

As for acting, there’s room for her to improve, but compare to people like Christine Kuo and JJ Jia, I think Anne is way better. Both CK and JJ needs to improve their Canto

    20. Applelim says:

Never did think she is a good actress but she is pretty

    21. lychii04 says:

Actually, this makes me miss all the ladies from the 90s. I mean, even though there were the “fadans”, there was so much variety with the leading ladies that you wouldn’t get bored of the dramas and there was someone to work with at any point of the year for any genre (unlike the Detective Columbus casting fiasco nowadays).

There was Anne Heung, Gigi Lai, Maggie Siu, Kenix Kwok, Ada Choi, Annie Man, Jessica Hsuan, Joyce Tang, Marianne Chan, Nnadia Chan, Noel Leung, Charmaine Sheh, Sonija Kwok, Flora Chan, Esther Kwan, Maggie Cheung, Melissa Ng, Sheren Tang, Athena Chu, Michelle Yip etc.

Now I’m sure we can really only list the 5 fadans, the occasional per-series contractor veteran (Jess, Sonija?), and the new girls who more or less are “waiting for the current fadans to fade out” rather than leading in their own smaller productions, as it was before.

Even with the Siu Sangs, the one I miss the most is Kong Wah, Dicky Cheung, Gallen Lo, Louis Koo, Wong Hei, Nick Cheung, Chilam Cheung, Roger Kwok, Felix Wong, Bowie Lam, Bobby Au Yeung, Sunny Chan. I’m glad that with the male veterans, many are still coming back to TVB to film, although on a less frequent basis. But then they pair them up with current fadans, which is a bit less interesting to see.

    22. Hannahh says:

Not a fan of Anne but i find that she is a good actress. Hope to see her on TVB again.

      • Hannahh says:

I miss Melissa Ng and hope she do come back on screen. I was start re-watching La Femme Desperado.

    23. joojaibao says:

I do hope one day she will come back to tvb and be in some of the tvb series

    24. lingling says:

I don’t think Anne is a bad actress, but a boring one. I think it was the roles that they gave her. Like most of you agreed, she’s graceful and serene, and the roles reflected these traits which translated into boring. That’s why she’s more memorable in the evil roles; she could do more than just stood there and looked pretty.

    25. Bridget says:

Not a good actress by any stretch but like others have said, I like her natural elegance and grace. I also think she’s pretty intelligent and articulate out of camera; always thought she should have done more hosting work rather than act.

      • NP says:

I completely agree. I don’t think she’s a great actress or is that pretty either but she has grace and seems intelligent.

I really hated her in the beginning when she was terrible and was in a leading role. Her acting seems to have improved later on and I found her to be quite likeable in her later supporting roles (i.e. Golden Faith). At this point in TVB, I welcome all the old actresses back. I think the current fadans are all ok but way too over-exposed.
