Carina Lau and Maggie Cheung Brush Off Discord Rumors Over Tony Leung
For years, it was said that Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) and Maggie Cheung (張曼玉) did not get along. Discord rumors started shortly after Maggie’s collaboration with Carina’s husband, Tony Leung Chiu Wai (梁朝偉), for the 2000 film In the Mood for Love <花樣年華>. Romance allegedly bloomed between Maggie and Tony on set, setting forth an alleged love triangle that lasted for years.
Carina repeatedly denied about not getting along with her rumored love rival and insisted that the rumors were just a misunderstanding. Carina and Maggie rarely made appearances together at the same event, prompting speculations that they did not get along with each other. On November 23, both Carina and Maggie were invited to the 50th Golden Horse Film Awards, but Carina walked the red carpet with Tony Leung and his The Grandmaster <一代宗師> costar, Zhang Ziyi (章子怡). Maggie arrived at the red carpet a little later, and was seen all night with Andy Lau (劉德華).
Carina finally broke the decade-long ice with Maggie the following day, when she uploaded a rare photo of Maggie and herself on Weibo. Reportedly, the pair returned on the same flight to Taiwan yesterday. Before leaving for their rides, the two snapped a photo together.
Carina wrote on the post, “The years were really beautiful.”
The photo immediately caught the attention of netizens, and the post attracted over 10,000 likes and over 8,000 reblogs. By looking at the reflection on Carina’s glasses, sharp-eyed netizens noticed that it was Tony Leung who snapped the photo.
Many netizens described the photo as “Tony’s red and white roses,” referring to the War of the Roses between the houses of Lancaster and York for the throne of England during the late 1400s.
Some praised Carina’s caliber and open-mindedness, expressing that this should be a woman’s most attractive quality.

carina and charmaine looks so much a like especially in this photo. I though back when, when Charmaine was in Heavely sword and dragon saga, I thought it was Carina, but then I was like she is too old to play that character lol.

Carina seems to have a ‘forced’ smile and they’re standing quite far apart. Even frenemies will try to look like buddy-buddy (arms around another’s shoulder or at least standing nearer together) when they’re trying to prove they’re more friends than enemies.
Both of them look like they can’t even fake it. Whether it’s because of Tony or just two divas not getting along only they will know.

Oh my GOd.. this is still news? I have totally forgotten about the ladies fighting over Tony Leong ages ago. GOd I feel OLD now. Yes peeps.
