Carman Lee and Manager Recall Sleeping Gas Robbery

Earlier, there was news that claimed a popular actor currently filming in Hengdian, China, purchased drugs online. The reports also included an attachment of the actor’s conversation with the buyer. This served as an eerie reminder to an incident that occurred in 2003, when Carman Lee (李若彤) and her manager encountered a harrowing episode inside their hotel in Hengdian while filming for TV series, Wu Dang <武當>.

That year, four rooms in the hotel were targeted for robberies. The thieves used sleeping gas that wafted underneath the rooms’ doors, causing the victims to feel dizzy and fall unconscious. Waking up hours later, they realized their valuables were stolen.

Carman recalled, “I didn’t know anything until someone knocked on the door and woke me up. Then, I went to wake my manager [next door]. Her room was a mess, and so were the other rooms that were targeted. I was the luckiest, because my suite was the last one. Maybe the thief didn’t have time and saw there was nothing to take in the living room. My valuables were in the bedroom, so I didn’t lose anything. My health was not affected either.”

Meanwhile, Carman’s manager unfortunately had the greatest loss that day. She revealed that Carman was fine and not exposed to the sleeping gas, but Carman’s manager was less lucky. Her manager said, “At the time, the sleeping gas drifted in through my door cracks. I was unconscious for eleven hours. The thief stole two cellphones and $4000 HKD.”

  1. “My valuables were in the bedroom, so I didn’t lose anything. My health was not affected either.”

She just said that to avoid suspicion of losing more than valuables.

  2. Can someone tell me how her robbery experience relates to the actor that was caught buying drugs online and the conversation etc. The first sentence and second sentence have nothing to do with each other.

    1. They both took place in Hengdian, China. Yeah, that’s a pretty loose connection :-p

  3. So scary!

One could get raped or organs taken.

    Anything can happen in China.

  4. Money and cellphones are nothing… they are lucky nothing else happened.

  5. Or worst yet…held for ransom, then killed to eliminate witnesses.
