  • Cecilia Cheung’s Penchant for Fast Driving Led to Auto Accidents

    By on March 31, 2011

Cecilia Cheung’s Penchant for Fast Driving Led to Auto Accidents thumbnail

In the past, Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi once remarked, “I always liked to drive fast!” However, since Hong Kong was heavily populated and the streets were narrow, driving fast could easily lead to automobile accidents. On March 30th, Cecilia was driving on South Bay Road and hit a 66-year-old man. Once the Hong Kong media learned of the incident, reporters rushed to Queen Mary Hospital to take photos of the 66-year-old man who was hit by Cecilia’s car. The victim sustained fractures of his left foot and was in stable condition.

Cecilia Cheung’s Assistant: “Traffic Accident Was Minor”

After the automobile accident, Cecilia was taken to the police station for a breathalyzer tests to prove that she did not drive under the influence of alcohol.Cecilia was not detained by the police, but must be readily available for investigation. Cecilia’s assistant confirmed that Cecilia was not injured and described the automobile accident as a ”minor” incident.

    Cecilia’s Car Accident in 2002

Cecilia’s passion for driving fast led to a major car accident in January 2002. While performing an auto stunt for a TVB charity show, Cecilia landed too fast and fell fiercely to the ground. On the day of the stunt performance, Cecilia only observed a stuntman perform the trick and did not drive the vehicle herself. At the hospital, Cecilia was diagnosed with a thoracic and lumbar spine fractures. When paramedics carried her to the ambulance, Cecilia’s first questions was, “Will I still be able to have children?”

Nicholas Tse Found True Love After “Hit-and-Run” Accident

Although Cecilia’s automobile accident may have been a small accident, after the news spread on the Internet yesterday, it caused great concern. Netizens remarked that Cecilia acted responsibly and immediately compared Cecilia’s response to husband, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, who fled from the scene of a serious automobile accident in .March 2002. When the police arrived, Nic had abandoned his Ferrari, which was bent out of shape from the crash. Shortly, a 35-year-old man driving a bread truck arrived on the scene and claimed that he was the driver in the traffic accident. After police investigation, it was revealed that the man was in fact a driver working for Nic’s music company, EEG.

On the night of Nic’s traffic accident, it was revealed later that he had supper with Cecilia.  They had not started officially dating yet. After eating into the early AM hours, the pair left in separate cars. Nic drove his car in front, while Cecilia followed behind in her car. After the car accident, Nic abandoned his Ferrari and got into Cecilia’s car before the police arrived on the scene.  When the facts of the case were revealed, Nic was found to be guilty of ”criminal obstruction of justice,” held in Hong Kong police custody for 14 days, and mandated to serve 240 hours of community service.

Nic’s automobile accident brought Nic and Cecilia together as a couple. Year later, Nic reflected on the incident, “The first time we were dating, I hit another car, sat in prison, but I no lifetime regrets! I am willing to exchange my life for true love. I give you my life to you; if you want to take it, go ahead.”

Cecilia and Nic’s Love of Cars

Prior to getting married, Cecilia revealed that cars were the love of her life. She would switch cars like her wardrobe. She owned 12 different car models for private use, in which she purchased 10 of the cars herself. Cecilia owned a Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and numerous other luxury cars. After marriage, Nic gave her 2 sports cars as gifts. The couple enjoy going for car rides together.

    Excerpt from Sohu.com

Jayne: Sounds like Cecilia and Nic’s early relationship was marked by great intensity. The traumatic events of her auto injury in January 2002 and Nic’s “hit-and-run” incident in March 2002 really tested the couple’s relationship early on. You can argue that they were dangerous situations which could easily have resulted in more serious injuries and possible death. Since the incidents were so closely spaced apart and Cecilia was right there when Nic had his car accident, it was almost like surviving the accidents together. What more do you need than to survive a near-death situation to forever bind a couple together?

By comparison, the nude photo scandal incident generated loads of gossip and emotional hurt, but what is more crucial than surviving a near-death situation? As long as you have your life and have each other by their side, you can live on…

    1. Funn Lim says:

      So, she was driving?

    2. Kidd says:

I don’t think Nic’s accident was serious and major. No one was hurt in the accident. He didn’t hit anyone. The only thing hurt was his car.

But, anyway, why this account is different from what I read last time. From my understanding of the news report, I always thought Nic was with his driver when the accident happened. When the accident happened, Nic didn’t know what to do and the driver told Nic he will handle it and then admitted to police he’s the one who was driving. Never read about the bread truck or Nic running to Cecilia’s car.

      • Funn Lim says:

Yes Nic’s accident was nothing major. In fact he didn’t hit anyone at all correct? Didn’t involve any person?

What was so stupid of him was to let another take the blame. That was his downfall.

You know Christopher Lee? Actor from Mediacorp Singapore? He actually hit someone on a motorcyle! That someone was kinda hurt as well, and he was man enough to admit AND went to jail! Quite scandal but he survived it.

        • Melody says:

Christopher Lee wasn’t man at all. It was a hit and run accident and he got arrested. He didnt stay there to wait for the police. The injured person had a toe amputated.

And compared to Nic who was young and ignorant, Chris was like 34 when it happened.

        • HeTieShou says:

Really? I heard about Chris’ accident but did not know that it was that bad. I can’t believe that he did that. I thought he was a nicer person than that…

        • Funn Lim says:

I think it wasn’t THAT bad. First of, the guy or victim wasn’t badly hurt. He was driving late at night to by some curry bun or whatever and hit someone on a motorcyle. I think he did leave the accident but he surrendered himself. And he got jailed, can’t remember how long but he lived a prisoner life. Anyone would have fled. Panic you see but most importantly he man up and he surrendered, if not he would have been sentenced longer since this IS singapore.

Nic was worse because no one was hurt but he let someone take the blame. And he got off easier.

        • HeTieShou says:

          @Funn,
THanks for your info. But didn’t someone mention that the other person got their toe amputated?? Or was it a different case?? I do give Chris some credit for surrending and serving his time in jail. I think Nic was in jail too but for something else I think…

        • Funn Lim says:

Yes the toe or somewhat amputated. Since he didn’t die, I don’t consider a toe THAT serious. But he did go to jail for I believe a few months?

Nic was in for the same traffic collision. I just can’t remember if anyone was involved or just hit the pole or something.

        • Melody says:

He was in an accident because he was drink-driving. When he knocked down the person, he got out of his car to see if the person was alive and fled the scene cos he was drunk.

He did not surrender and was arrested with information provided by eye-witnesses.

He was let off with a stern warning for fleeing the scene (cos the charges were dropped) and jailed extra 2 weeks making it a total of 6 weeks.

Causing someone to lose a toe is serious enough, Nic only wrecked a pole and his own car. Nic was jailed 2 weeks and ordered 250 hrs of community service.

        • Funn Lim says:

He didn’t surrender? Then it should be more than 6 weeks.

Nic was I believe obstruction of justice?

      • Melody says:

He was only jailed 6 weeks becos he paid SGD70k to the victim. Since he’s a Spore PR, if he violates the law again, his PR status will be revoked.

Ya. Nic was for obstruction of justice cos he got his driver to take the blame.

    3. Funn Lim says:

Again I wonder the accountability of both parties, however to say hitting a 66 year old man who had foot fracture is not a minor accident. Her PR should be more sympathetic and not trivialise. It seem HK PR company needs intensive training.

      • FanWen says:

I agree! That is NOT minor and he’s an old man!

        • lamentnomore says:

its because that old man is not a celebrity like her so duh the injuries are “minor” since he is a nobody. Cecilia probably more annoyed at making inconvenient trips to police station to give statement than worried for him.

      • ABSMANAGERRON says:

theres such a think call emergence braking, and public roads are not for racing or speeding, and any thing of the sort would indanger the general public which is obverious, surly the judge realises and not careless !!?

    4. Sky says:

      lock her in jail……………..

    5. Lola says:

Glad her children weren’t in the car with her!

    6. yuaida says:

Well, the fact that they both have passion for cars is one thing but driving recklessly is another. Hitting another person – whether it’s elderly, youngster or any category is never minor. It means that the driver was either driving too fast or recklessly which is likely the case for Cecilia. While she will likely only get a slap on the wrist or maybe nothing at all from the police – it may seem that she is probably not as mature as she portrays herself to the media. When you put two reckless people together like her and Nic, these things are bound to happen. Once a rebel, always a rebel. Look at Nic’s old man Patrick – he’s still a rebel at 70+ so expect the same from Nic and Cecilia……..I say she’s still the same reckless person as she was a few years ago when those photos of her “sucking on Edison’s Dong” was circulating. The only difference is that she now has to keep a low profile to keep herself from any further embarrasment…………Keep that mouth open Cecilia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

      • rei says:

hmm, what u said was kinda harsh…but is very possible! I think driving fast just for your enjoyment and not care about others is a very irresponsible act on her behave…I think Nic is a very dumb man for taking blame when it wasn’t him driving…gotta say he’s probably filming too many of that kinda story/characters that sometimes he got real life mix up~

      • Judy says:

I agree with Yuaida. I went through a phase of driving fast and recklessly when I was 16… and thankfully I was very lucky to have not gotten into anything serious… She’s not a young girl anymore and has children children for chrissake! She and Nic deserve each other!

        • ABSMANAGERRON says:

was it a joyride, was there so other pessenger or were there any passenger who excape the scene, is there such a possibility!!? could money buy or compensate disability, is there damage or life lost?

    7. Cynthia says:

They are meant for each other. They are the true definition of partners in crime!

    8. Chriselle says:

OMG! 12 cars for private use?!!!!!!

Guess who is jealous? I must admit that driving fast is very fun and the speed limits on freeways are very annoying.

    9. Joyce says:

Cecilia obviously doesn’t learn from past mistakes. I hope they fine her and throw her in jail for a while.

    10. HeTieShou says:

While it is nice to have a passion for cars, it is not right to drive recklessly like that. You are putting yourself and others at risk with your selfish behavior. I thought that Cecilia and Nick have changed and have become better people, but sadly it doesn’t seem like they have completely mature people yet. I really hope that they don’t become bad role models for their kids. It seems like celebs usually get away with these kinds of things just because of their fame and fortune. I don’t find that fair at all.

    11. Nelly says:

Both Nic and his wife need to stay away from driving. Every since Cecilia made her comeback she been stuck with unlucky situations. If she’s not being sued then she running down some elderly man.

I agree with Cynthia! They belong together and I pray they don’t hurt anyone else with their crazy driving.

    12. Aly says:

She’s lucky that the man didn’t get killed! I am glad she faced it directly though and did not follow Nic’s mistake. They surely have faced many obstacles together as a couple and hope they continue to support each other unconditionally. They both have rebellious natures and have made a lot of mistakes in the past, and they are considered young parents, so I really hope they will mature a bit more and think about the consequences of all their actions for the sake of their kids.

    13. sky says:

Where is Edison Chan? He needs to come and help her out. lol…

    14. lamentnomore says:

she needs to take responsibility for her actions. she is in hiding when she has always been outspoken and loud in every little incident. she willingly spread for naked pictures with ED but was obnoxious in her treatment of others when she know the leak was an accident and affected him too. funny, how she asked him to take responsibility but here she is, in hiding, not saying anything to press.

i think Cecilia has a very showy attitude, she wants to flaunt her body, family, and assets to others. from her multiple partners, husband, to children, there’s nothing wave and use out there to get attention.

    15. lamentnomore says:

maybe the unlucky things happening to her are punishment for her always committing crimes like assisting breaking laws by assisting fugitive Nic at the time to run away from the scene, adulterated acts with any man but leaving unscathed. how come she can get back her career but not Gillian? its because ppl want to give face to Ceci’s father.

look at that poor man in bed! Cecilia should go to jail and reflect her reckless behavior and inconsideration of others! she’s too selfish.

      • Judy says:

I think Cecilia’s good wife and mother image helped her bounce back… She is also a much better interviewee than gillian… Gillian didn’t express herself very well and sounded quite immature during her interview.
