Charlene Choi recently held an autograph session in Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui on Saturday (3pm), for her fans and her latest album “Sweetest Day” which has been very successful, with various singles (“Year After Year”) reaching number 1 spot on the charts. The autograph session was attended by a big audience of fans of any age, since there were even old ladies present to support Charlene Choi, while Charlene, dressed in a bold yellow outfit, was in a very good mood, talked to her fans and sang for them her hit “Year after Year”, smiling throughout the event.

I can never really figure out the reason behind the popularity behind “Twins” and even now that they’ve gone solo. Charlene Choi and her ex-partner were never really talented in singing/acting but somehow they really had their followers. I for one really question the HK market and the HK people’s choice of idols…….really tasteless………..
I totally agree with you. Yes she does look cute, but her acting and singing is just bleh. I never did enjoy any of her (or the Twins) songs or any of her movies. I don’t get it it either.
Finally someone out there that actually thinks the same way as I do!!! Thank you! There voices are bad that makes me think I can even get a shot of fame. Which I have similar qualities like Charlene choi. Her face is more rounder than mine though.
l question all these years too. I also wonder why so many people like Angelina jolie so much. They thought she’s hot I’m which j think she looks like a tranny. I guessed it is the media that messes with peoples minds. HK actresses got so stink skinny recently and makes girls think that skinny is beautiful.
Totally agree with you and I don’t think that it applies to just HK or Hk idols only. Many idols of today from many countries are honestly just “idols”. Most of them cannot act or sing that well, but are popular because of luck, looks, timing, connections,etc… I remember the other day when my brother was telling me that these days that it is not skills or talents, but connections and luck is one of the biggest keys to getting a job in this tough economy. That and much more exists in the circle.

Hey, she got her front bangs again. She looks better with front bangs, makes her seem less old. And Twins is popular because they are awesome, and they can actually sing to, and of course they have a giant fan base all over the world. Charlene Choi is the better of the two though.

Charlene is very cute. I’ll def go for babyface girls over Raymond lam’s choice of skinny oval faces. She’s just too cute looking but her and gillians voices are bad. Be honest to yourself! Where’s the Leona Lewis, Celine dion, or uh monicas voice? I can’t stand beyonces screams. I also can’t stand Alicia keys and Mariah careys raspy voices. This is another funny thing that peoples minds are so easily to be disrupted, so easily to be brainwash by the media and so easily to be persuaded upon. Well it shows that EEG or whatever company they are with has good marketing and promotional skills.

I have to agree, the Twins sound terrible. Then i have to disagree, Charlene’s acting isn’t that bad, not that great but not that bad. Gillian can really act when given the proper script. Did anyone see Beyond our Ken, really good stuff. As we all know, how you look means everything, and they happen to be cute, so they win.
Charlene can definitely act. If she can’t then how the hell did she win two best actress awards, and one was an international award from Korea.
In recent years, Charlene has shown potential as a good singer. Her solo music career is so much better than Gillian’s. I say people just don’t give her much of a chance and listen to her solo music (without the bad impression of Twins). Charlene improved in folds ever since Gillian’s pictures exposure in 2008. She is nowhere near the best singer but she is not as bad as some people keeps exaggerating her to be.
The same reason how Sammi Cheng got nominated many many times. Have you seen Storm Warriors? She was god awful in there. And she can’t even speak properly. Awards sometimes is a good measure of someone’s talent but in HK, please don’t place too much emphasis on that. She is a terribly inadequate actress. I can never understand Twin’s popularity. They can’t sing, they can’t dance, they can’t act and yet there they are, famous.
Fine, we can disregard her win in HK but if she is such a ‘terribly inadequate actress’ then I wonder why she is still the only HK actress up to date to ever win at PiFan (which is an international award ceremony in Korea). I’ve seen Storm Warriors, and Charlene just recently won an Best Actor award in Beijing for her role, she won against Barbie, Nicolas, Andy, and Hu Jun. If she was as bad as you claimed, I don’t think she would even get nominated in the first place, and then ended up winning. Charlene still got lots of room to grow and improve, but she can definitely act.
Maybe we were watching a different movie. Everybody has different taste. The movie was terrible so she was just one part of the terrible. She is to me not just inadequate, let me rephrase, she is a lousy actress.
