Child Actor Twin Brothers: Gregory Lee and Augustine Lee

Lee Ka Ding (李家鼎) and Shih Ming’s (施明) twin boys, Augustine Lee (李泳漢) and Gregory Lee (李泳豪), were the true first generation of “Twins” in the entertainment industry. The twin brothers did not disappoint Lee Ka Ding’s reputation. As child actors, Augustine and Gregory were extremely cute in The Two Honorable Knights <絕代雙嬌>. Although one was fanatic and one was decadent, Augustine and Gregory shone in the limelight when they were children.

Gregory Lee

Gregory possessed a love for acting and when he was 5-years-old, he frequented TVB City with his parents. Gregory described those days as “happier than going to school.” In The Two Honorable Knights, Gregory played Siu Yu Yee; even his poses were extremely cute! Since Gregory’s mother, Shih Ming, possessed a “third eye” which allowed her to see spirits, Gregory was unafraid when he portrayed a child vampire in 1988.

Since Gregory did not find success in acting as adult, he turned to car racing in recent years. He frequently went to Huizhou, China for car drifting competitions. Last year, Gregory received the grand prize in the national China car drifting newcomer category.

When he was 7-years-old, Gregory learned horseback riding from his father, Lee Ka Ding. Inheriting Ding Yeh’s horsemanship skills, Gregory was known in the industry for his horseback riding skills as well. Difficult stunts while horseback riding were not an obstacle for Gregory.

While filming Blade Heart <血薦軒轅> in 2002, Gregory Lee successfully wooed Shirley Yeung (楊思琦) amidst many pursuers. This was considered an accomplishment. Unfortunately, Gregory and Shirley’s 9-year romance ended with the intrusion of Hong Kong diver, Andy Ng.

Augustine Lee

As a child, Augustine was cute and well-behaved. When he saw his mother act one time, he equated acting with playing. He flawlessly portrayed Fa Mo Kuet in The Two Honorable Knights.

Possessing “retrocognition powers,” Augustine claimed that he and Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐) were a married couple in their past lives. He started pursuing Gillian in earnest and waited for Gillian outside her apartment with roses. In return, Augustine received a cold treatment and remarks that he was “crazy.” In 2006, Augustine suddenly gave a cell phone to Wong Hei as a gift. Augustine’s sexual orientation remained a mystery.

Possessing a quiet personality and feminine appearance, he dressed in drag as a child. Hosting a children’s program, Augustine also dressed in drag. However it turned out that Augustine preferred to play with He-Man toys.

Since he was a young boy, Gregory enjoyed active sports and often sparred with his elder brother, Augustine. According to ex-girlfriend Shirley Yeung, Gregory often let Augustine have his way. Shirley claimed that Augustine almost broke Gregory’s arm in a fight.

Kevin Cheng’s Poor Work Attitude Blasted by Lee Ka Ding

Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) has come under fire recently among his TVB colleagues, criticizing his character and poor work attitude. TVB actor, Sin Ho Ying (冼灝英), blasted Kevin Cheng for being self-centered and repeatedly challenging Mr. Sin’s professional opinion during the filming of boxing scenes for Gloves Come Off <拳王>. Another veteran actor, Lee Ka Ding (李家鼎), criticized Kevin for being aloof on set and acting like a mute! Fans blasted that Kevin’s stiff acting was “rubber-like.” Bombarded with criticism from all fronts, Kevin resembled a “punching bag” more than a champion boxer!

  1. really perfect brother, both of them true feel each other in real life very loyalty.

  2. Thanks for this article!! I am sick of articles saying Gregory earns little, etc when he has success, though not in acting. However I disagree on one tiny point; I always thought Augustine was a poor actor. Gregory was phenomenal but I never knew he loved acting so much. My impression was he was the more talented twin but enjoyed the process less.

I am still shocked that Augustine looking rather soft is actually the hard one!

    1. Uh, you said differently in your review of ‘Return to the Truth’. You did say Gregory act better, but, I remember you praised both of them.

I think both brothers act well for their age.

I really cannot see how this kind of acting can be considered poor.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSdT2INdQUI

      1. Both can act BUT gregory is the talented actor. Augustine by comparison is poorer. BUT both are way better than some adult actors these days.

      2. Hey Kidd,

Can I ask from what drama that clip is from?

      3. Got teary-eyed watching this scene. What drama is this from?

      4. Wow! We don’t have child actors as good as that anymore :/ After seeing that clip, I want to watch the old series starring the twins.

      5. Too bad there’s no canto clip of Greg’s performance in this series. Greg’s scene in the video is too short.

I think this is Greg’s most challenging role to date (including his adult roles) because he has to play a child that is paralysed from neck down. He can’t even speak iirc. So, he can only used his face and eyes to act.

    2. Gregory was clearly the better actor but I don’t know why most child actors who are phenomenal and talented in their childhood don’t become famous actors in their adulthood or older years?

Jenny Shing was phenomenal too in BF2 but when she appeared again as a teenager in UTCOL she was just an ordinary kid.

Leila Tong meanwhile did it by choice. She doesn’t want to sign with TVB and miss her chance of promotion and good roles.

    3. I am also tired of people saying that Gregory earns little. I also sort of agree that they are both talented but Gregory is the more talented one.

Looks can be deceiving since someone can look all mean, but end up being nice and vice versa. I still cannot believe that Augustine thinks that Gillian was his wife in the previous life… Oh goodness…

You know another child actor that really shined?? Fung Chi Feng… I really enjoyed all of his performances and really miss him as an actor. He did play some roles as an adult, but sadly his acting career didn’t last. I wonder what he doing nowadays??

      1. I already know that he is already married a long time ago. He is still a DJ with Commercial radio? Thanks for the info and link.

  3. Is that augustine waiting outside gillian’s house? He looks like some beggar! My god, am glad that crazy phase is over./

TVB should really cast gregory in more roles that requires riding horses. Or some series about car chasing and drifting. Was he in When Lanes Merged or whatever the title? Why not use talent that is already there in suitable series?

    1. Funn,
Since the popularity of ancient dramas are declining in HK, horseback riding skills may have been a more desirable trait in the past. I remember Blade Heart had a lot of horse riding scenes, thanks to Jonathan ‘s Chik ‘s big budget.

Gregory looks very manly while riding a horse. I suggest that he play a horse jockey in his next series. 🙂

Due his athletic skills, he would likely portray action roles well. He takes boxing classes. IMO, I think investing time to learn Wing Chun or Hung Ka martial arts skills would be better for his career, even if that meant small roles in films to begin with. HK and China audiences still love martial artists, who are not required to emote onscreen anyway.

Ms. Lol is out of her mind to suggest Gregory go behind the scenes now. Does she realize how much favor he gained with the public due to recent scandal?

      1. 620 is stupid.

Anyway horsebacks can be for modern day dramas too! Like romance dramas! What about reimagining a story; as if the monarchy survives till today, we have young prince, etc. If Korean tv can reimagine that, why can’t TVB?

      2. 620 is only interested in promoting her favourites. She doesn’t care whether the artist is talented or have a love of acting or not. The most important requirement is obedience. Other factor does not matter.

Why would she ask an actor who has a love for acting to be a PA?

      3. open secret that 620 is stupid. She only care for her favourites who will follow every word she said. Stupid manager.

I’m starting to feel sorry for Gregory now. If he didn’t move out of HK during his teens he would be a famous artist by now. I agree with those who said he acts better than Augustine. 620 should promote him.

      4. 620 sounds more towards protecting Shirley than giving Gregory better chance. Wake up 620. Shirley’s career is over and Gregory is the one who’s getting support by audience now!

      5. Vivien,
Compared to Gregory, Shirley makes more money, which is why Virginia Lok stood by her side in this scandal.

Overall, my impression is that Virginia did not like Shirley that much to begin with because she had high profile relationship with Gregory and “wrecked her own chances.”

Also at artist promotional events, 620 likes to take photos with her favored artists. In my recollection, she did not take that many photos with Shirley.

      6. 620 love can change quickly too. She used to take many pictures with Bernice but when she was ridden with scandal 620 only stood by Moses.

      7. haven’t tvb put Shirley in the freezer yet? get me wonder which executives are not doing her privately.

      8. Jayne,
Thanks for the info, but I think it is such a shame that ancient dramas are not being as well liked as they were in the past. I can see why though.. I think the quality of them has reduced as well which is probably the main reason why. No wonder TVB isn’t making that many ancient series versus modern ones lately…

I am glad that mainland China are making more ancient series since those have better quality anyways. If Gregory is that skilled, I think he would be more successful in China. However, since he is not that popular or known, I don’t think there would be a high chance for him to get asked to sign a contract in China…

What the heck?? Ms. Lok is thinking of having Gregory go behind the scenes?? What is thinking?? Is she out of her mind?? Gregory has earned a lot of favor out of this recent breakup which I think is only good thing that actually came out of this whole mess.

      9. @ HTS @ Jaybe

I need to clarify. I think my sentencing makes the info confusion.

Ms.Lok didn’t ask Greg to go behind the scene now. It was before the scandal broke out. She was recounting the past. She said that while Shirley was dating, she refused to do kissing scenes etc. Now she is willing to do any scenes. She further explained that she has once asked Greg to go behind the scene since he studied movie in his uni. She said she told Greg that Shirley is not a money minded girl and wouldn’t mind. But not long after, there were news saying she’s separating the 2. She said after that, she didn’t bother with their relationship matter liao. There’s 2 different report of this news that have slight difference. One only said she asked Greg to go behind the scene and Shirley wouldn’t mind. Another add that line whether she asked Greg to start from PA and said Shirley wouldn’t mind people say she married poor director.

I guess she’s trying to tell the public that Shirley is not a materialistic girl.

  4. “Possessing a quiet personality”

He was anything but quiet lately.

  5. I have watched old series when Gregory was a young actor and he is cute and very good acting for his age. Mind you I didn’t realise it was Gregory till lately.

  6. is there only me think that Greg is not that good looking, and he can’t be a leading man?? I know he good at acting, but he’s too short to be a leading man. His “handsome” face is not that manly. He looks like he never grow up.I’m not denied he’s good child actor, but being “adult” is a different story.

    1. he certainly looks alot better than Wong He and he was playing the lead in several series.

I prefer him as supporting cast instead. But not many tvb leads can act really. Their series have no substance anymore.

      1. I agree that Wong Hei is not handsome, but he has his charisma, his good figure his manly looking. You think greg can play Wong Hei’s character in Burning Flame??? NO. He has not that kind of manly charisma.
As I’m not fan of Mose (hate him) but at least he has his tall figure, manly looking as well… he can play doctor, lawyer very convincing, but Greg…. let’s say he play doctor… can you believe he is a real doctor????? No….. There’s something about his figure, his facial that it will not convincing me as of adult type character. That’s why for the first time, I understand TVB. And I feel there is a reason why Greg never can have a better roles, even though he’s good at acting

      2. LOL, do you have to be tall to play a doctor? it’s all about their iq so unless their is some positive correlation between height and intelligence then it won’t matter.

im sure Greg. could play any of those roles it tvb gives him a chance. people will get use to it later on.

      3. I’m not meant “Tall” that way: It should be tall mature adult type.

      4. not every doctor is tall and masculine it just a image girls have so they can dream…

      5. Of course you watching movies for??? nice, charisma artists…you are watching short guy, childlike face playing doctor, lawyer, fire fighter????????????

      6. it’s about acting. If you want looking at hot guys then go watch a fashio show

      7. Not exactly. It is about something, charisma, good looks. If you want ordinary looking guys, just go and sit on a bench in the park. Entertainment sells fantasies. Good looks helps a lot, but talent is the true staying power.

      8. Sigh!! I just changed my avatar and yet still looks the same! How on earth mine got displayed here? Which network did I upload to?

      9. @ Anya

Before Jazz Lam act in Ghetto Justice, would you ever think he can be believable as a lawyer?

Also, how mature looking is Him Law and Oscar Leung? They still get big roles.

      10. I agree w/ anya. TV audience is shallow. If u don’t have the looks, then u better have the charisma. Unfortunately for Greg, he doesn’t have much of either so it’s understandable why tvb don’t invest in him. There’s nothing wrong with being a supporting actor if u really enjoy acting.

@kidd: I still didn’t really believe jazz as a lawyer.
Him has the body while Oscar has charm. and Oscar still only had a small supporting role in wax and wane.

@exoidus: Wong hei had lead roles since he was still young and attractive. I’m talking about long time ago when he was so cute as OK duk in “food of love.”
Greg might be able to play Wong hei’s wimpy role in “gem of life” but no, he could not pull off any of Moses’ lead roles.
and you underestimate the audience’s love of hot guys. why would we want to watch average guys that have boring personality to boot?

      11. Greg might pull off any roles which involves lots of crying since he can cry easily. Wong Hei don’t have Moses model height but he can pull off all of Moses roles better whether drama or comedy.

      12. @ Josie

“@kidd: I still didn’t really believe jazz as a lawyer.”

Seems like you are the minority since he became more popular after GJ.

“Him has the body while Oscar has charm. and Oscar still only had a small supporting role in wax and wane.

I don’t know how small Oscar’s role in WW. But, he has quite big roles in other series. Way much better than Greg bar tender role.

An I wonder how many people think Oscar has the charm when he was still playing small roles. Actors need bigger roles and the right roles for audience to notice whatever charm they have.

Lastly, Anya was talking about Greg not being mature looking enough. I just list some actors with bigger roles that are also not mature looking.

“There’s nothing wrong with being a supporting actor if u really enjoy acting.”

That’s why he still stick to acting. But, at least give him bigger role than just some nameless dude with nothing much to do.

      13. @ Kidd: you are funny, you compare him law to greg? Him is hot so who care hes immature or not? And I havent watched GJ so I don’t know how jazz play. Oscar Leung always play small roles,( in series I have watched) I can’t even remember what characters he play now.
        @josie: 200% agree with u.

    2. He looks better than Moses and when he was a child he acts better than how Moses act now.

      1. yeah agree with you Moses acts like a retard nowadays. maybe his new series as a investigator with Adam Cheng will be better?

It would be nice if tvb gave Greg a chance to play the lead. how fun would it be if he turns out successful.

      2. The series with Adam Cheng might be better for Moses since he is one of the producer’s ultimate favourite.

      3. i think Ruco would be a much better choice for this drama.

never really liked moses and his acting now it’s like stephen chow wannabe and he really sucks.

      4. “i think Ruco would be a much better choice for this drama.
never really liked moses and his acting now it’s like stephen chow wannabe and he really sucks.”

Obviously better than Moses but since Moses is the favourite son this good role from this producer must fell onto him first.

    3. If you compare his face when as a child and now… there is no change! Maybe cute as a child but he doesnt seem to have grown up (if you know what i mean). He has never been given a chance to play a good role in TVb series, I guess and got left behind.

      1. I agree. A lot of famous child actors did not make it when they got to the adult stage. Shirley Temple was one of them – it was a standing joke that she was “over the hill” by the age of 12. Very sad really.

    4. I don’t think it is always just looks that people aim for in a leading man. THere are many actors that don’t look that great, but have charisma and many other things to make up for it.

I think it is sad that many talented child actors cannot make it big as an adult actor. That is one of the many dangers of being a child actor. ONce you grow up, it seems like your days of success are gone… So sad…

  7. Can someone help me please. I saw this film with a cute child vampire in and it was a sort of semi comedy. I can’t remember the film very well but it was about a kid vampire and I think his mother. They were dressed in the olden days clothes but the film was set in the modern day. I vaguely remember they got to someone’s house and towards the end, the child changed to modern clothes and wore a baseball cap even. I could have kicked myself for not recording that film. It was brilliant. Now I’ve just read that Gregory was in a vampire film, if anyone knows the title of this film I would try and buy it from yesasia.

Any comments or help would be very much appreciated.

I didn’t know that Gregory was so popular in his young days. He and his brother sure were cute.
