Child Star Celine Yeung’s Photobook Removed From Shelves Amidst Controversy

The photobook featuring six-year-old child star Celine Yeung (楊鎧凝) has been removed from shelves amidst complaints about several “inappropriate” photos. The book was withdrawn from sale at the Hong Kong Book Fair, and an autograph signing was also canceled.

The book raised concerns of indecency when several spreads in the photobook showed Celine cladded in underwear, some with her legs open. The Against Child Abuse agency (ACA) expressed that the photos were disturbing and suggested the publishers to remove said photos from the book. The police are also investigating.

On Celine’s official Facebook, which has over 223,000 followers, her mother left a statement, announcing that she has decided to pull away the mentioned photos for the book’s next edition. She said she accompanied her daughter throughout the shooting process in South Korea, but did not participate in the photo selection.

In regards to the “indecent” photos in the book, Celine’s mother admitted that these results were unexpected. She concluded, “In order to not affect people’s impression of the photobook, after discussing with our family and the publisher, we decided to take away a few photos in the next edition. Celine had a very happy time during her trip in Jeju, South Korea, and the purpose of this book is to bring a child’s happiness to everyone. Wish everyone a happy day!”

Although Celine’s photobook has been taken off shelves at the Hong Kong Book Fair, the photobook is still being promoted at the fair. The photobook is also still selling at convenience stores, where it is displayed along with other photobooks featuring seductively-dressed pseudo-models.

  1. Eeew, the description of that photo gives me the creep! It’s creepier where it’s being sold! Didn’t the mother or her manager or someone see all the pictures before approve to publish?? The damage is already done. Poor girl. Smh.

  2. Who is this child? A fb page at 6? Indecent photos? Sounds like this attention seeking disease has spreaded into younger children too not just adults.

    1. @kaykay408 I only know her from one series, Love, Swap, Tap. The child might not have the “disease.” It could be the adults, like parents or guardians, with the “disease” who opened a FB for her, got her to do a photoshoot, etc. She IS only 6 after all. This is a failure of the adults who’s promoting, managing, or looking after her.

  3. the mother just dont wanna be accountable. She said she was there throughout the whole photo shoot but not the selection process so she saw those poses before. She could have said something then if she wanted to. Seems like she just wanna make money.

  4. I haven’t seen the photos so I do not know whether they’re explicit or people just reading too much into it. Look at it this way; here is a young celebrity publishing her own photobook. For someone so young, she is very eloquent and yes, a very very talented young actress who was the best thing in Swipe Tap Love. I don’t see the controversy unless the photos showed her dressed and posing suggestively. If not, why cut people’s income? She needs money for university later.

And yes the mom should be more careful but I shall hold my judgment whether she is a celebrity mom or a mom who was misled.

    1. @funnlim According to her mom, they didn’t take/want any money for the shooting. They simply want to have some pretty photos for memory. The odd thing is that the book isn’t for charity purpose, so all the profit goes to the publisher?!
Regardless, the photo description in the news toned down already. Due to the angel of the camera, there were few very very suggestive photos of her in underwear.

Maybe her mom didn’t realize it at that time, but in no way was the HK police and gov’t is overreacting to the book.
