Christine Kuo Under Pressure for Gaining Weight

As Christine Kuo’s (苟芸慧) popularity rises, so does her weight! The 2009 Miss Chinese International Pageant winner is reported to have gained over 30 pounds in the past three years, going from 115 pounds to 150 pounds. With a fuller face and thicker arms and legs, even Christine’s own friends and colleagues could not help but to comment that Christine has been “looking happier.”

According to various tabloid sources TVB, Christine’s management, alerted the 29-year-old star about her weight and ordered her “to do nothing else” but to work on squeezing that fat out of her body. The sources reported that TVB gave Christine 7 days off to lose 10 pounds.

It was also reported that Christine had lost her endorsement contract with a slimming company. Christine scored the weight-loss deal last year and signed a one-year contract. However, Christine’s recent weight-gain reportedly gave the company a “bad image,” especially during a time like summer – the season of weight-loss. As a result, Annie Liu (劉心悠) was hired to be the company’s poster girl instead.

Oscar Leung Supports Christine Kuo

Christine’s Tiger Cubs <飛虎> costar and good friend, Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), came to her defense during an interview with RTHK yesterday. The 34-year-old said, “Beauty is expressed from the heart. Curvaceous women can be very beautiful and I hope everyone will give Christine more time and support. In times of stress and pressure, it’s really hard to lose weight. I always tell Christine to eat more, but she doesn’t. She’s under great pressure. No one likes to be supervised and have fingers pointing at them while calling them fat. Actually, my personal trainer and I have been advising Christine on the best ways to lose weight.”

Rumored to be in a flirtatious relationship with Christine, Oscar assured that he and Christine are only good friends. “She is like my younger sister. We work together and help each other out along the way.”

Oscar believes that as a man, he has obligations to take care of his female friends. “When I was in Taiwan and Thailand to film a mini-movie with Christine and Vivien Yeo (楊秀惠) earlier, I was the babysitter of the group,” Oscar laughed. “If I didn’t take care of them, my girlfriend would yell at me.”

  1. Ive seen pictures. . and to be honest yes curvy women are nice but you should see how big her love handles are! My mother gave birth to two children and she’s close to fifty and her love handles are nowhere close to Christine! She should really consider eating healthier and exercising.

      1. They are the fat that hang or bulge from the stomach.

      2. I think love handles are the fats that hangs on the sides betwen the waist and hips or towards the lower part of the back.

    1. sarcasm? i dont get it.. it’s too profound dude, explain, we can’t read subtext.

  2. I won’t say she is fat… chubby seems a more appropriate term. But even tho she may be 150 pounds, she still look stunning. If I was 150 pounds and still look that amazing, I’ll be the happiest girl on earth.

    1. yeah i mean girls went to college and they gain like 30-40 pounds. they loose it when they feel like it or when they can. otherwise just leave them alone. as long as they are happy and even if they have bad health, let them be, at least they die happily.

      1. i heard AK is peeping her when in toilet. AK really a rotten egg.

  3. personally I think she looks healthy and she has the height for the extra weight. It’s well balanced out.

  4. There is no place for ‘fat’ girls to continue to portray as ‘leng lui’ on dramas and movies and endorsements.

If you are fat, have scripts written for you to portray ‘fat people’ roles, it is as simple as that.

    Hear that, Christine!

Didn’t know Aaron Kwok digs flabby arms and fat thighs!! hehehe

    1. The thing about being fat is you can always slim down. THe thing about being an idiot is no amount of education can rectify that. Hear that?

      1. Really, being fat can slim down? Tell that to all the fat ladies out there. You must be working for a slimming company. And even slimming company sack Christine for being fat!

There is a proper place for everything, including leng lui roles for leng ladies.

Only idiots do not understand or fail to understand this real world reality. But as you said, idiots can’t learn thru education, so I hope you won’t feel too hopeless and helpless for your case.

The world still don’t end for idiots! Hope this consolation helps, dear.

      2. Wrong. Pretty girls can be pretty, ugly, fat, skinny when they choose. Idiots can’t choose, see see mirror. Poor you, no choice.

      3. Spot on! As Oscar said “curvaceous women can be very beautiful” and I would add sexy. Stupidity and idiocy on the other hand is as Funn said… 🙂

    2. There is no place for ‘fat’ girls to continue to portray as ‘leng lui’ on dramas and movies and endorsements.
      —————————————-
It is very true unfortunately, especially for TVB actresses who are all SUPER slim.

  5. she’s not fat by any means but she’e definitely gained heaps of weight in a short amount of time. wonder whats happening. is she stressed out by the tabloids that she resorted to binge eating? has she gone on or off the pill? or is she just fishing for a weight loss contract?

  6. Not sure if Christine is over-weighed or not now, but I am positive that she would NOT have won Miss Chinese International crown if she weighed 150 lbs. during competition.

      1. No, she’s 170cm, so she’s not over weight if we listen to the BMI 🙂

      2. But still very much over-weighed for artistes in Hong Kong or in any Chinese pageant competitions.

150 lb. for a 5’7″ female is quite acceptable in any societies in North America or even Asian countries, but not in the glamorous entertainment industries in Hong Kong.

      3. The HK media are harsh. They give her the goddess title, then take it away from her. Why give it to anyone in the first place?

    1. Why do people measure by weight? Muscle weighs more than fat.

      1. And she is not fat. She is just out of proportion.

  7. Queue…anorexic girl up next. Give it a month or 2 with all the nasty pressure. There’s a difference between Fat and Just not stick thin. Poor girl is still gorgeous, why torture her.

And oh yeah, a week to lose 10 pounds?! ARE YOU KIDDING?

    1. probably just lose water weight in a week.
      good grief that’s crazy.

  8. I don’t know why so many people on this website support Christine Kuo for being “chubby”. If she wants to shine as a pretty actress in Hong Kong, she has to go along with the standards there, not the ones in North America or elsewhere. Being “chubby” can still be gorgeous as a woman on earth, but not as a pretty and attractive TVB actress.

    1. Uh, so you are saying people on this website should criticize her for being “chubby” or should we just bash her for it? Seriously? Anybody with a decent amount of judgement would see she’s not 150. Being on camera adds about 10 pounds to how you much you really weigh.

      1. With her height of 5’7″, she looked at least 140 lb. in the above photo. Therefore, not surprised if she weighed 150 lb. in reality.

      2. And Christine seems to have big bone-structure for her body and limbs.

      3. ??? If she looks 140 in the picture then it means she’s actually 130 in person. If she weighs 150 in person then she weighs 160 in person.

You still haven’t covered the part with the criticizing. Should we bash her for being “chubby”? Or should we write up a bunch of hate messages and criticize her for it?

      4. *looks 150 then she weighs 160.

Jayne, please grant us an edit button.

      5. Jane:
Agree. We should have an “edit” button. It will be so much easier to correct our unnecessary errors/typos.

      6. People can support Christine Kuo whatever way they wish. It is up to Christine to decide if she wants to lose weight or not. Just voice whatever opinions you have as long as they are well-written and not rude.

      7. Mind you, we only see Christine Kuo’s face in the above photo, not her whole body and limbs. Moreover, her body is fully wrapped in black clothes which obviously hide the chubbiness (if any) easily. A lot of people show her “fat” last on their face, and usually tummy, arms, thighs and legs reveal their “fat” first.

      8. clamine:
Thanks for your link to view Christine Kuo’s latest new image ……. Wow, she is really fat now. Look at her waistline, hips and legs ……. they are just TOO chubby for a celebrity (or goddess).

Don’t know if people still support her to maintain her current weight (150 lb.) and criticize others to ask her to lose some weight.

      9. First, the dress is unflattering. Second, maybe she should have worn some shape dress or granny pants or something like that, those that even Jennifer LOpez has to wear to have some shape. Third, look at her arms. Not fat. Fourth, so what? She can always lose the weight. Her face is still pretty.

  9. If Christine is really 5’7 and weighs 150 lbs, then she is pretty fat, especially as a celebrity. Her body was perfect when she first started, not too skinny nor too big. Hopefully she can go back to her old weight, but please don’t get too skinny like most TVB actresses are.

    1. 5’7 and 115? that’s consider “underweight” on BMI scale. just saying

  10. I think Christine still looks beautiful.

Yang Guifei was supposedly chubby. Just saying.

  11. i doubt she’s 150 pounds. probably just the media stirring things up again. i’ve seen girls who weigh that much, and she doesn’t look as big as them at all.

  12. This girl loves her food. Even before all her “stress” she was already keeping her mouth full.

  13. Leave her be! She still has a body to die for, she looks brilliant. Life is too short for silly diets and worrying about your weight when you don’t need to be concerned. She looks fabulous. I may not like her as an actress, but people need to stop pressuring her into losing weight. No wonder people have such a warped impression of beauty, the media is a hideous thing.

  14. I’m in the camp of she should probably work on her Cantonese and acting before approaching weight loss if her ultimate goal is to have a long career.

  15. I guess that Christine Kuo has not been able to convince people with her better acting and Cantonese, she needs other things “such as weight loss”, “rumours with Aaron Kwok, Oscar Leung, etc.”, to get people’s attention. Sad!

Agree that Christine should work hard in her acting skills and Cantonese if she wants to excel in her acting career.

We haven’t heard that many bad rumours about Eliza Sam, Mandy Wong, Rebecca Zhu Oceane Zhu, Crystal Lee Suet Ying, etc.

  16. To think that society’s standard of beauty is still the standard skinny underweight woman is sad. There’s a difference between wanting her to lose weight because she’s “fat” and encouraging her to lose weight in order to have her stay healthier. I feel as though TVB’s pushing to lose her weight just because she doesn’t fit the stereotypical “skinny” girl at TVB.

    1. anorexic ‘beauties’ are the standard in HK. Nonconformists would be subjected to ridicule, with some examples shown here.

  17. I am wondering after “rumors with Aaron Kwok” , she under tremendous stress that she is now suffering eating disorder ?
    Wild Guess from me

    1. She has never been slim. Even when she was becoming famous, she still kept eating. She never seemed to have a desire to keep fit in the first place.

      1. Christine Kuo has never been slim ………….. it is true and it is okay as long as she “looks” decently slim and balanced, but she can’t look fat and chubby as a goddess, as she is called in TVB.

  18. I googled her since I don’t think I have seen her in anything. – At least don’t recognize her.
Even if she does have a bit extra (still not fat imo), it’s nothing to write a fricken insulting article on her.

How horrible and insulting is that for a female?!?!?!? A paper writing an article on how fat you are? I can’t fathom what or why anyone would do this to a girl? If she wasn’t stressed or sad before, I’m sure this will add to it now. That’s just cruel!
I know if a major paper wrote a fat article about me, I would be embarrassed to even go outside ever again.

If she is enjoying life and still the same person on the inside, who cares about how mutch she weighs? Beauty is on the inside anyway, and she is still beautiful on the outside IMO. I hope she doesn’t take notice of this article or insults and does what makes her truly happy.

  19. like it or not christine is indeed “fat” compare to many asian female artists. an actress either relies on her acting skill or look, “unfortunately” for christine kuo as of right now, she mostly depend on her look. so like it or not people, she better lose some weight or else how can we watch her onscreen with her already horrible acting, don’t tell me you guys ok looking at an overweight actress with zero acting skill. i don’t mind an overweight actress as long as she can act or have certain kind of charm, a perfect example is May Chan, totally adore this girl for her cute face and decent acting.

but tvb ordered her to lose 7 pounds in 10 days is crazy, the girl needs at least few more months to lose those weight in a healthy way.

    1. Agree. You had good points. We watch an actress for either her acting or her pretty face and body, and Christine does not have acting at all. She needs to show us her pretty face and body then. She is aiming for 1st or 2nd lead or supporting roles, not a comedic role, like May Chan.

      1. Christine is not aiming for anything! What TVB needs to do is to find roles that fit their artistes.

      2. Are you sure that Christine Kuo is not aiming for anything? Would she be happy to act comedic roles for now and ever? I have tons of reservations! How would she be able to make lots of money if she just stays as an over-weighed comedic actress?

  20. Her face looks prettier now and younger too 🙂

  21. Christine Kuo is so pretty whether she’s chubby or thin.

  22. She’s big boned so she probably gains weight easier and it’s evident she had gained some weight. But meh, no need to crucify her lol.

    1. Of course TVB should not “crucify” her, but it is time for Christine to know and do something to her weight gain problems.

  23. 150 is not a high weight for her height. But I saw the picture in the unflattering blue dress—and it looks like she has no waist to hip definition. Unless her figure was always like this, she needs to watch that area meticulously because it is a hard place to lose!

  24. i think its because shes going on a yoyo diet and through her interviews, she said shes not forcing herself to not eat which is extremely bad because starvation cause extreme and even more hunger later on. she probably ate very little for the first 2-3days then she was probably starving by the rest of the week…this is very common for people who wants to lose weight fast by thinking starvation is the answer

  25. I think she looks really nice and bubbly in the photo. As long as she is happy, who cares!

  26. Christine Kuo must be very happy to see so many fans supporting her on this website despite her bad acting, poor Cantonese and slight overweight problems.

    1. That’s great. Shows there is hope in this world!
