Edwin Siu and Him Law are Satisfied with Careers

The 2012 TVB Anniversary Awards will be held on Monday, December 17. Aside from the Best Leading and Supporting award categories, the category that has also generated a lot of publicity is the Most Improved Actor category. TVB actors Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Him Law (羅仲謙), Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), and Vincent Wong (王浩信) have all shot to prominence in this year, and it is a tough battle to win the title of Most Improved Actor.

Him Law Hopes to Win Most Improved

Him Law first began filming for TVB in 2007, and his debut television drama, Your Class or Mine <尖子攻略>, earned him a top five nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2008 TVB Anniversary Awards. Going against tough competitors such as Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Derek Kok (郭政鴻), Him knew he would not win. He did not even expect himself to enter the top five nominations.

But 2012 is a different year for Him. Having starred in well-received dramas such as The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小時>, Tiger Cubs <飛虎>, and Divas in Distress <巴不得媽媽…>, Him’s position in the television industry has grown stronger. As the awards ceremony draws closer, Him finds himself growing more and more nervous.

Him stated, “I have portrayed many different roles in the past five years with TVB. I am very happy and satisfied that I have the chance to be nominated in two categories this year. I already won Best Supporting Actor for Astro, and if I can win TVB’s as well, that would be great. But I am more confident inwinning Most Improved Actor. If TVB allows the award to be shared, I want to win it with Oscar Leung. Brothers stay together!”

Edwin Siu Fulfills His Father’s Dream

Like Him, Edwin is also a nominee for Best Supporting Actor and Most Improved Actor. Edwin has had a very colorful year, having starred in four television dramas and portrayed four very different characters. Though Edwin is also a popular favorite to win Most Improved, Edwin admitted that he never thought of winning the award.

“Wayne Lai is my teacher. Whether it is in [The Confidant] or in reality, I still refer to him as ‘teacher.’ When we were filming The Confidant at Hengdian World Studios, he would often share his experiences with me, and taught me that I should always face the present and future with an ordinary mindset. When Wayne was nominated Best Actor for his role as Chai Kau, he was the most popular candidate to win, but even then, Wayne never said that he would win for sure! I also never thought of winning anything. This would only give me more stress, and it would take a toll on my performances. If I think too much, it will just make acting harder!” exclaimed Edwin.

In The Confidant, Edwin’s character turns from Wayne’s most beloved apprentice to his worst enemy. “In the end, my character will end up in the streets and have favus of the scalp. It was I who suggested my character to develop this disease, and I also shaved my own head for it! Back in the day, I used to get really worried if I do not look good enough on camera, but now, I really don’t care. I am really giving it all!”

Since joining TVB in 2008, Edwin’s acting vastly improved, and Edwin thanked his late father for passing down his acting talent genes. “My dad really knows how to liven up the environment. He even joined a singing competition. For our family, he decided to give up his dreams as a performer to work for the Correctional Services. Now that I have become an actor, I feel like I have helped my father fulfill his dream.”

  1. Him Law seems to be pretty smart. He knows that he should only get “Most Improved Actor” instead of “Best Supporting Actor” in TVB Awards Ceremony. With Koo Ming Wah and Power Chan in this competition, Him Law is just an actor with “NO” acting. Don’t know how he got “Best Supporting Actor” in AOD.

  2. ” If TVB allows the award to be shared, I want to win it with Oscar Leung. Brothers stay together!””

How cute! Rooting for HimHim and Oscar for Most Improved and Koo Ming Wah for Best Supporting :3

    1. Perhaps if the “Most Improved Actor” award is shared by Him Law and Oscar Leung, and the “Best Supporting Actor” award is to be shared by Koo Ming Wah and Power Chan, it will then be perfect.

  3. Bet the TVB executives are scratching their heads off deciding between them. Glad to see actual competition in the category.
