Eliza Sam Announces Engagement to Boyfriend

The rumors were true after all! On Friday, 32-year-old TVB actress Eliza Sam (岑麗香) announced on social media that she will be marrying her Mr. Right, Joshua, in Vancouver this month. Eliza shared a photo of her and Joshua hugging each other tightly, while flashing her beautiful engagement ring.

Eliza wrote, “I am very thankful that I can finally announce that God has given me my Mr. Right! Keung Keung (Joshua) was my friend, then my boyfriend, and today, he is my fiance! To be able to marry my soulmate is a blissful thing. I look forward to step into the next stage of our life, so we can grow together with God.”

The former beauty queen said she and Joshua actually met many years ago through work in Vancouver. They did not keep in contact. They met again a few years ago through mutual friends, and developed a deep friendship.

Eliza thanked her family, friends, and coworkers for keeping her engagement a secret. She also thanked her fans and the press for their concerns and encouragements through the years, saying, “You guys really took care of Keung Keung after we started dating!”

The actress also said, “The big day is coming soon, so we’re busy with the preparations. Forgive me for not being able to reply to everyone’s messages. Thank you all! We’ve received all of your blessings! God bless you!”

Eliza told reporters that they have been engaged since February, when Joshua proposed. Joshua proposed to her in a church, with his own parents present. “I said yes so quickly!” said Eliza. “It was romantic and simple.”

It was hard to keep her “Mrs. Keung” identity a secret, but thanks to her friends, she was able to keep quiet about the news.

“There are so many things I need to do,” said Eliza. “I need to let [TVB] know.” (When have you decided that Joshua was your Mr. Right?) “After one year of dating! Now that I’ve announced it, I feel so much looser. I couldn’t wear my ring in public, couldn’t wear it around my friends. I felt sneaky!”

Eliza denied the reports claiming that she was going to be in a shotgun marriage, clarifying that she has no intention to have kids in the meantime. “I don’t have a baby, and I’m not in a hurry to have one. Joshua and I have always been in a long distance relationship. I hope the two of us can spend more time together after getting married.” (Will you retire after your marriage?) “Of course not! I love my job, and [Joshua] is also very supportive. I’ll be coming back in December.”

On what is the most attractive thing about Joshua, Eliza said, “He’s filial. He loves me and his family.”

Eliza and Joshua will hold their wedding in Vancouver, with the presence of family and friends.

Reporters contacted Eliza’s close friends, Linda Chung (鐘嘉欣) and Grace Wong (王君馨) for comment. Linda, who got married earlier this year herself, said, “Eliza and Joshua are a very sweet couple. I’m very happy for them.

Grace Wong, who also recently got engaged, said, “Joshua is attentive and has a great sense of humor. He’s a good man! I know he will love and take very good care of Eliza.”

TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) clarified that Eliza still has a long contract ahead of her, and she plans on continuing her career as an actress after marriage. Eliza’s next TVB drama will be Heart and Greed <溏心風暴3>, starring alongside Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) and Vincent Wong (王浩信).

  1. Wow engaged since February! In amazed that she was able to keep it a secret for so long! So awesome and happy for them!

  2. Congratulations Eliza & Joshua!! They look so happy together in the above picture.

Although Eliza’s acting may not be very good at the moment, but i always feel that she is a nice and friendly person…looks more genuine than her other close friends.

I noticed that many celebrities (particularly those female) nowadays want to settle down/get married at 30s…unlike previous generations of artist who like to remain single to maintain their popularity. To me, it’s good to think of your future (getting married and start your own family) than to sacrifice a lot for your career only. If an artist is really good & talented, he/she will continue to gain fans support despite being married. Show your true talent through your outstanding performances…not by staying single to become ur fans’ idol to retain their supports.

    1. @diana80 celebrities should be upfront about their status instead of keeping mum just to maintain their popularity. Andy Lau’s wife was hidden for many years, just like Jacky Chan’s wife.
If Ruco gets married, i would be happy for him. Celebrities are human, and getting married, having kids is natural.

The difference between this TVB generation and the previous generations is most of TVB fadans from this generation are CBCs or ABCs. I find that most CBCs/ABCs get married earlier (girls around 27-34) than the career-minded HK people. HK fadans grnerally don’t settle down until late 30’s or around 40’s.

      1. @rainbow28 hmm I would say yes and no. I think the general younger trend is to get married and have families while the older generation wanted to maintain their fame. It’s more of a generational gap than a location issue

    3. I find that most CBCs/ABCs get married earlier,
and they are not gold digger ! Grace wong , eliza sem , Leanne Li ,

  3. Congrats to Eliza! One year is kinda early to get married, but there are some that manages to make it work!! All the best

  4. I like Eliza ever since her first debut. I know her acting is not the best but she is easy to watch, she seem friendly and nice person. Congratz to her ! Look very happy together.
