Fala Chen: “I Don’t Want to Lose Myself!”

Since leaving TVB and remaining an independent artist, Fala Chen (陳法拉) is enjoying her increased amount of personal time. At home and at work, she has always enjoyed following her own set of principles. To some people, it may seem like Fala is an inflexible person, but it could be said that she is only persistent towards what she truly wants.

When problems arose in the past, Fala admitted she did not take care of them in the best way possible and often neglected her own feelings. She shared, “At the time, I thought it was okay to just endure everything and pretend nothing happened. But actually, the problem does not go away when you endure it. I don’t want to cover up my true nature by trying to keep harmony with everyone.”

Fala understands things differ among situations, and that collaboration with others really depends on a mutual balance. However, she is insistent upon not losing herself in the process of trying to harmonize relationships. “It’s also not beneficial towards my acting performances,” she expressed.

Since ending her TVB management contract, Fala was able to spend a lot more time with family members and return to some hobbies. She has more time to rediscover her passion for cooking. While studying abroad in university, Fala loves to try out different types of recipes and knows hows to make food from different cultures.

During Christmas, Fala flew to the United States to visit her parents. At the moment, she would rather savor quality time with family instead of fight for new job opportunities. During Lunar New Year, Fala revealed she would head back to the United States and spend the holiday with her parents again.

  1. Yeah, enjoy the “unemployment” while you still can……..most entertainers boast about how much they love their free time when they are actually “unemployed”. Give her another half a year or so when she starts running low on money and then she will grab whatever work she can get her hands on………

    1. Agreed, what happened to all those scripts that she “claims” to have received?

Also, this divorced gold-digger likes quick and easy money (hanging around the “wealthy” Nicky Wu crowd via her first China drama “Damo Yao”).

    2. Honestly, I usually do not agree with Yuaida but I actually think he may be right this time. It is really easy to become unemployed in the e circle since it is a more freelance job with an unstable income. I have a feeling that maybe Fala became burned out after filming with TVB for so long and needed a break. I think her next step may be to China if she has the connections, filming for the new companies or back to TVB. Otherwise I really wonder where else can she go?

      1. if she has an agent, and a good agent, she can go for auditions, etc. That’s how actors find work.

      2. i’m not worried about about fala, she is popular enough to stay strong in this circle,i think many moviemakers are awaiting to sign her.

      3. shu…i hope so…for a while, I was worry about Fala. Since she left TVB, without the big company, i worry that if she has enough jobs…I love Fala, hope that she has big success in China as well as movie…also, she break up with that rich guy…i have been worry about her since it is hard to find one!

      4. I think China is a natural next step. If Da Mo Yao hits it off and become “huo” or hot, she might land plenty of opportunities. I’m really looking forward to 2 Chinese series this year and one of them is Da Mo Yao or whatever it’s call now 😉

      5. Puff,
It is not called Da mo Yao anymore. I forgot the title at the moment and saw the trailer on YouTube. It looked pretty good. I am looking forward to it too. Which other series are you looking forward to?

      6. As per Wikipedia, the new name of the drama series should be “The Sound of Desert”.

        The cast should include:

Cecilia Liu as Jin Yu (Yu Jin)
Hu Ge as Meng Jiu (Meng Ximo)
        Eddie Peng as Huo Qubing
        Han Dong as Li Gan
        Fala Chen as Li Yan
        Kristal Tin as Hong Gu
        Qin Hao as Yi Zhixie
        Shi Xiaoqun as Princess Pingyang
Maggie Cheung Ho-yee as Wei Zifu
Lu Liang as Emperor Wu of Han
        Wu Zhuohan as Wei Qing
        Zhang Xiang as Li Yannian
        Qin Yong as Lu Guangli
        Wu Ying as Wei Shao’er
        Liu Shuailiang as Wei Kang
        Xu Sa as Fang Ru
        Luo Mi as Xin Yan

      7. How big is Fala’s role in Da Mo Yao? I want to watch the series for her.

After watching ‘Will Power’ and rewatching the Chung Mo Yim series, I start liking Fala Chen again.

      8. I read the english translation and if it is as per the book, her role is big since she is the ultimate villain. Of course not as big as Liu Shishi but next to Liu Shishi she is the next big female role apart from the innkeeper or whatever her role is. The mamasan? The one who owns the dance troupe?

      9. “http://youtu.be/Ww_sZtH4d-k”

This looks good! Is Ruby Lin contracted to portraying all ancient drama’s characters? Anyway she looks pretty, not sure what’s the story about though.

      10. Just saw this trailer.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VR7ye3ej0M

I have to say, a big chuck of it is boring. For the first 2/3 of the trailer. only Hu Ge’s character looks interesting. The trailer only get interest in the last 1/3 part when other characters come out.

The biggest problem in is the main lead. LSS an ok actress and I quite like her in Bu Bu Jin Xin. But, she looks bland and boring in this trailer, even with the doggy antics which is supposed to be funny. The other problem in Eddie Peng. I like him a lot in the movies I saw him, but, he’s also boring in the trailer. Is it because of miscast?

      11. Personally I feel Huge should be Eddie’s role and Wallace Huo in Huge’s role. I believe that was the original casting? I suppose the trailer may be badly edited perhaps. Yes LSS on a good day is a mediocre actress.

  2. People always want to think the bad side of artistes. Sigh~

  3. I have a feeling she’s going to return to TVB…she’s just taking a break. Where else could she go?

    1. I agree^ I also have a feeling that it won’t be too long before she returns to tvb, perhaps on a per series contract deal for the change. As for where else she’d go, who knows, she seems to be active in film roles, so she may even persue film more often perhaps?

  4. I’m glad that she is spending more time with her family members (:
I hope to see her on screen soon.

  5. For someone who ended her contract to TVB she seems to have more news than prior to ending the contract.

  6. fala manager now is also kelly chen’s manager…if kelly chen can be so famous until now, then fala should be no problem finding work also (if have the same manager who has network)

    1. kelly chen’s acting may not that great but she carries herself pretty well (when she is off screen)

      1. Agreed, I much prefer Kelly Chen, who is not a gold-digger (this is the difference).

  7. Probably should focus on her acting skills before thinking about being so famous that she’ll lose herself….

  8. I think it’s wise for Fala to have some time to relax and unwind…. she’s been non-stop working for many years… you don’t want to be forced into taking time off from severe burn out!!
Everyone’s priorities are different… I personally think life is best spent with the ones you love – i bet it’s been ages since she had time to even fly back to see her family!!!
I’m sure she’ll bounce back in a matter of time 🙂

    1. Good point. Everyone’s expectation is different; fame and money are not always a person’s top priorities.

      1. It is great to see that they are so close in real life. I loved them and Linda together in Ghost writer.

      2. AL
Did you mean “re-watch” instead of “rewrite” the “Ghost Writer” because of Fala?
