Fala Chen to Spend Lunar New Year With Parents in USA

Since leaving TVB last year, Fala Chen (陳法拉) has found a better work-life balance. Although she is still very passionate about acting, Fala finds it is equally important to spend quality time with loved ones. Taking a break from work, Fala plans to spend Lunar New Year with her parents in the United States.

Recalling the last time she spent the holiday with her family, Fala reminisced, “Last year, I spent even more time in the United States and the entire house was full of joy. The happiness of my father and mother are the most important.”

Opting to spend the holidays with her family once more this year, Fala joked about the inevitable weight gain she will be incurring due to her mother’s delicious cooking. Fala added, “I get fatter every year – [my weight] increases when New Year comes along because of my mother’s famous rice pudding. She makes it like a pretty flower – it’s good to look at and good to eat. My father also dries his own Chinese sausages. I dry and help eat them too. I even help him send them as gifts to his friends across the United States.”

Striking Gold Since Leaving TVB

Although Fala has disappeared from television screens in Hong Kong, she made prominent appearances in various movies opposite Dayo Wong (黃子華), Gordon Lam (林家棟), and Ronald Cheng (鄭中基) last year. Since the airing of Sound of The Desert <風中奇緣> in Mainland China, Fala’s popularity has also surged. Fala is popular among directors and is frequently offered roles. Her filming fees have increased, and she continued to be in high demand at promotional events and shows.

Finding balance in her work and personal life since leaving TVB, Fala is now focused on taking good care of her mental and physical well being. She looks forward to a festive Lunar New Year celebration with her family next week.

    1. Chen was born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan, China until 14 years old, when she emigrated to Atlanta, Georgia, United States with her parents.

      1. I meant Fala Chen. Don’t know how I cut off the word “Fala” in my post.

      2. I have always wonder given her background how on earth did she get involved with the whole canto-speaking entertainment world, which as she had found out, is quite limited.

      3. i dont understand , what would her background have to do with her persuing a Career in the Hong kong entertainment industry ? If you’re referring to her academic background, well I can list out quite a few artists who have had professional jobs as doctors, nurses , dentists, accountants, lawyers etc. before entering the entertainment industry, so it proves background doesn’t weigh less than passion and talent. But if you’re referring to her cultural background etc. well she did enter the industry via beauty pageants so I don’t see it being such a shock or anything different to many other artists who made it famous from pageants.

What I do see is her ambitiousness as an actress, perhaps it’s in her personality or developed from her upbringing, hence why she is venturing to the bigger mainland market now.

    1. Me too! Although a lot of people criticised her for the role, I thought she did really well with Holiday, she Brought the character to life imo 🙂 the only think I would say about her performance was some of her emotional scenes were a bit off and forced, but other than that, she played the part very well.

      1. I also liked her portraying Holiday in TITS 2. The only actress who might be able to beat her is Charmaine Sheh, but Charmaine is not that young.

The only criticism that I might say is her cry scenes. She should cry with more tears and sadness.

      2. in triumph in the skies, fala brought life to her character…but she wasn’t acting cute. in fact, she spiced up captain sam tong and compatible as ‘wild’ holiday with jayden.

  1. She did pretty well in DMY. Looking forward to see her in other dramas. I wonder why former TVB artists do better in other dramas, lol

  2. I love fala…esp her role as holiday in triumph in the skies. She looked great as a pilot compared to skinny Sammy Cheng. Her chemistry with Chilam was also romantic.

  3. She was alway enjoyable to watch she play her mute role really well

    1. Can’t speak well? If you’re referring to her cantonese, take exhibit A. Christine kuo , exhibit B. Occeane and exhibit C. Leanne Li. All from pageants, and speak mandarin as their first language, but I don’t see how their cantonese is better than Fala. imo, fala is perhaps the only actress whose cantonese is almost near perfect with no accent given mandarin as their mother language. She’s improved a lot imo, dont know how you came up with the opinion that she “can’t speak well” comparing to her with other artists, then may I ask who is well spoken enough of a similar language background to her ?

As for “can’t act”, acting is subjective, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I think she’s doing fine.

      1. Totally agree with you on both points. I did not like Fala Chen in the past due to her language skills. I am quite picky on pronunciation and lazy intonations. However, I noticed Fala’s tremendous improvements and admire her for her hard work.

Acting wise, I think she is doing fine too. She is very versatile in her acting ……. she can handle different types of characters, good or villainous, including Holiday in TITS 2. Although she got a lot of criticism on her cry scenes, I think on the whole she did a good job. She will be another Charmaine Sheh soon. Both of them have worked really hard on their acting, voice, language, and acting, and I have seen big improvements from both of them. Some artistes will stay at a certain level after acting a few years, but not Charmaine Sheh and Fala Chen.

I hope Fala will keep improving her acting skills and become a top artiste in films or drama series. She has a beautiful face and eyes, which really help a lot in acting.

  4. Best revenge on TVB is to make a lot of money and succeed. Grats to her and hope she has a happy holiday.
Sucks that she left TVB though cause I can’t stand 90% of the other female actors they keep re-using. They have no talent and get annoying before the end of the first episode.

  5. Actual her acting is sucks escpecially when she acted in Triumph in the Sky II. Dislike her acting for her role. Can’t described it but it really sucks!!!

      1. I think it is her personal and subjective opinion. After all, acting is very subjective. Not every artistes are liked by all people. For me, I don’t care about Maggie Cheung Man Yuk’s acting even though she has won several big awards in Hong Kong, Mainland China and even overseas.

  6. I’m so happy for Fala. Her life seems a lot better now compared to when she’s with TVB which is all work.
Of course, she has to thank TVB for giving her the opportunity. Without TVB, she won’t have her current fame. But, she made the right decision to venture out.

    1. It is true ……. without TVB, Fala Chen may be a different person now.
