Faye Wong Maintains Iciness in Beijing Comeback Concert thumbnail

Faye Wong held her “comeback” concert in Beijing yesterday. Many of Faye’s close friends in the entertainment industry, such as Carina Lau Ka Ling, Na YingAloys Chen Kun and Vicky Zhao Wei attended the concert to support her. Mainland artists, Zhao Ziqi and Tong Dawei were also present.

Vicky noted that her elder brother was a big fan of Faye and bought a dozen concert tickets. Announcing a whirlwind engagement after only dating wealthy businessman, Wang Xiao Fei, for one month, Barbie Xu was also present at Faye’s concert.
Faye’s concert was held at the Beijing Wukesong Stadium, with production costs rocketing up to $30 million (HKD). The concert theme focused on the four seasons and the concept of rebirth. The costumes were very fashion forward. In the grand entrance, Faye dressed as a white angel and exploded from ice. Through her vocals, Faye sang about the four seasons and the path of rebirth.

According to mainland media sources, when Faye sang the song, Red Bean <紅豆>, she sang one note off-key, making her smile with embarrassment. Faye exhibited her extremely cool personality and spoke only eight words throughout the concert performance. She uttered “Thank you” four times to the audience.

    1. Aly says:

Love Faye, and really miss her performances, so I’m glad to see her back. In terms of her saying 8 words the whole night, I’m not surprised. She’s always been a singer that does not say much and does not really express her feelings, so we don’t really know what she is really thinking. She gives off a cool diva vibe, so she doesn’t seem very approachable and may make others feel intimidated. Some quiet people give the feeling that are stuck up or really uptight, but sometimes they are actually friendly people that just don’t really know how to engage in conversations.

    3. Funn Lim says:

She needs the money. Did she spent it all on her child’s surgery as I’ve heard?

    4. Miss China says:

Wah!!! She looks so stunning! Faye Wong is a really talented artist and she is also a kind and down to earth person.I wish her family the best.

    5. pandamao says:

When Faye first came out and wasn’t too popular, she wasn’t so much of an icy diva. Once she started gaining popularity, her true self slowly revealed.

It’s funny how Faye, Carina and Na Ying are bffs. They all hold very different personalities but I think it was their struggle in life that connected them together.

      I really miss Faye!!!

    6. Kidd says:

I think becoming true to herself increased her popularity. The song ‘Woman Who Easily Hurt’ gave her the boost, but, it’s her changing back to her real name and showing people her true personality and singing the songs she liked that made her stay popular and remain an icon for so long. If she has stayed as Shirley Wong, she might not have been as iconic as she is now.

    7. Funn Lim says:

She’s a good singer but frankly her imitation of cranberries right down to the very last yodeling for the song Dreams made me still think of her as a hack. Sorry but if there was one “copy” I’ve heard it was that song and the joke was she was hailed as original because the song wasn’t very well known, that made me snigger.

    8. Kite says:

I find her concerts extremely boring. No dancing and talking. Several of her songs are good but majority of them are weird..not my style. Her concert will put me to sleep.

    9. jenny says:

I don’t understand why they waste so much money on the concert. The standing mike (crystal)alone cost around HKD100,000 and I think it looks very ugly. Another think that I don’t agree with Asian concert is shy they waste so much money on costumes. I buy a ticket to listen to songs and not looking at those costumes. I still prefer western singers who really sing during a concert and not doing a fashion show instead.

    10. jenny says:

Jolin Tsai is another one who puzzle me with her concert. She is more like an acrobatic doing her stunts than an artist holding her concerts.

    11. pandamao says:

      @Jenny –

A lot of Western singers throw on a show, ie Lady Gaga. It’s just a taste factor. Celine Dion gets on the stage and sings, just like Jacky Cheung. Lady Gaga throws on a fashion show just like Raymond Lam.

Concerts, like many other things, evolve through time. Despite your personal preference, many people buy these tickets and it’s one of the main resources for artist.

    12. jenny says:

I still prefer a real concert such as what Jacky Cheung and Celine Dion did. Celine’s concert was the best. No gimmick, just good voice and good songs.
