Felix Wong Distances Himself from HKTV; Paves Daughter’s Entry into TVB

Felix Wong (黃日華) was once a fervent critic of TVB’s archaic programming and unfair politics, while advocating for the issuance of HKTV’s free-to-air television broadcasting license. After the government rejected HKTV’s application in October, Felix has noticeably distanced himself from the upstart station in hopes of saving his daughter’s acting career.

When more than 120,000 protesters took to the streets to protest the government’s decision and show their support for HKTV, Felix excused himself from the first day of protests due to work commitments.  Maggie Cheung (張可頤), Frankie Lam (林文龍), and Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧) led HKTV staff to advocate for HKTV instead. While Felix showed up at ensuing protests, he refused to go on stage and speak with the press.

Felix’s unexpected silence since HKTV failure to secure a free-to-air television broadcasting license was due to his concern over his daughter Adrian Wong’s (黃芷晴) career. Last year, Adrian signed with HKTV and filmed a drama with Felix. The drama has not been broadcast due to HKTV’s broadcasting issues. Although Chairman Ricky Wong (王維基) announced broadcasting its dramas on the Internet starting July 2014, Felix allegedly has little confidence in Adrian’s future at HKTV.

Both Felix and Adrian were absent at HKTV’s Christmas party. Felix excused himself due to other work commitments while Adrian said she was sick. An insider said, “They didn’t come because they were afraid that TVB wouldn’t like it! Ricky Wong is very disappointed in Felix Wong.”

When Adrian’s HKTV management expires at the end of the year, Felix reportedly hopes that she will work for TVB to gain higher exposure. The insider said, “After HKTV failed to obtain its free-to-air television broadcasting license, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) and Michael Miu (苗僑偉) urged Felix Wong to consider his daughter’s [future] and not constantly be against TVB. This will make it easier for Adrian to enter TVB later. Felix is very concerned about his daughter. He thought that HKTV will be unable to turn things around, so he tried to help his daughter [go to another station] immediately.”

  1. With lots of makeup, she looks like Christine Kuo. So, tvb think about it!

  2. good move felix, your daugther ‘s future is on your hand

    1. This is a smart move for Felix and it is the best for his daughter’s future.

    2. Well, TVB is in a period of improving employees relationship, maybe a good timing?

  3. Adrian Wong looks like a barbie doll in the above photo …….. too much makeup!

      1. Even now. I saw her in another recent photo standing next to her mom and she looked very much like her mom.

  4. I wouldn’t be surprised if Felix’s daughter ends up filming for TVB since her dad has connections that would make it an easier transition for her. TVB really is a good way to get exposure since there have been so many people that have had their popularity boost up just by being on one of their shows. Even if she doesn’t sign with them, there are other channels she can sign up with. I’m sure she would prefer to be seen on TV rather than just the internet.

    1. I think one thing that alot of people are forgetting is that there ARE other options — even before the free license decision, there was still the option of working for NowTV and/or i-cable, it just depended on what direction the artists wanted to go. In fact, throughout the past 2 years, a few of the HKTV artists (the lesser known ones) were already working for NowTV or i-Cable in addition to their work at HKTV (some were hosts of variety/special programs while others participated in NowTV’s series), so it’s not like HKTV and TVB were the only options (of course, there’s always the Mainland, which is where most of the veterans such as John Chiang, Yuen Wah, Felix Lok, etc. went).

Personally, I don’t see the logic in Felix running back to TVB, especially after how badly the relationship was severed (and he of all people is definitely on their blacklist…doesn’t matter what type of connections he still has over there).

And honestly, the above article is making it sound like Felix is using his ‘work commitments’ as an excuse not to attend HKTV’s functions, but anyone who has been following his news or his Weibo will probably know he’s a very busy person, since he’s also the chairperson (I think that’s the correct title) of the Celebrity Soccer Team (which means he is obligated to attend most of ASSA’s events in addition to the weekly soccer matches that they already do)…plus he has always been in high demand in terms of stage performances in the Mainland (which means that he’s going back and forth alot between Mainland and HK). Oh and of course, he’s got all the social events in between due to his large circle of friends….so honestly, it’s not surprising that he doesn’t have time to participate in every single HKTV function….in the grander scheme of things, that’s probably lower priority for him at the moment.

  5. If this is true, I don’t have any respect for him because he’s a hypocrite.

    1. Yeah, I agree with what you said. I really hope all this is made up by the media.

      1. Don’t be suprise, soon he will sing praises for TVB and criticize HKTV

    2. Agree…sad that he doesn’t believe his daughter has talent to make it on her own and have to depend on daddy’s connections.

    3. Well if his daughter’s future is his upmost concern, I don’t think he’d care for others to criticise him then having his daughter’s future hanging by a thread imo.

    4. Me too, just more than a month ago, he said how dissapointed he was that HKTV didn’t get their license, and make it clear that he totally behind and support HKTV. Yah right! whatever! Look it now, he distances himself from HKTV. So during HKTV good times, he stay. When come HKTV bad times, he run.
Anyways, good luck to you Felix. I like him as an actor, but not as a person.

I never was Frankie Lam’s fan, but now I have great respect for him. He stick with his words to support HKTV and stick with them through their tough times.

      1. I love Frankie but after this whole sage, I love him even more and my respect for him has grown. He stuck by HKTV even when it seemed hopeless. It shows he’s a loyal person with integrity. I really hope this isn’t true about Felix as I will lose a lot of respect for him.

  6. wow…i thought Felix Wong didn’t like TVB? well, now you have to worry about your daughter’s future at HKTV when you were so proud to change tv stations and work there…that’s why you should never burn any bridges b/c you never know when you’ll need to cross one…

    1. even if he have burned all the bridges,he has powerful friends like eric and michael to pave him the way back,at last he is a lost son of tvb, dont blame him.

  7. dont believe this, but if it is true its just because he is doing this for the sake of his daughter.

  8. Isn’t Felix the 1st brother @ HKTV? It’s kind of sad when Virgina Lok openly asked the reporters in a sarcastic way ” who is she? Is she even an actress? I’ve never heard of her”.

I think she looks a lot like her mother.

    1. ^LOL serious? When did Lok say that to reporters?? If so, ouch.

      1. YUP 🙂 I read that article on this website. It was shortly after HKTV got rejected by the Gov’t and a lot of employees got laid off. This reporter asked Virgina Lok about Felix’s daughter not being able to pursue her career and Virginia indirectly dissed Felix’s daughter like who is she? Is she even an actress? LOLLL.

  9. Is he a two-head snake or hypocrite? Hope tis is a make up news..Else, will loss my respect for him. Don tink TVB will value his daughter even if he lower himself & applogize. Felix b a man..good or bad..stick with ur decision and go tru it..will earn u & ur gal more pride & dignity.

    1. Oh please, He’s been bashing TVB for a decade and more, he even comes back on TVB for a show or two for a appearance. Everyone flip-flops their decision in order to gain power and value.

      1. Oh my..Dont u noe tat reputation & image r very important for an artist. If people tink u r a “snake” and “dog”..it so hard for u to gain success. He went bac to TVB for 1-2shows, but that was b4 he been blacklisted. Felix’s TVB friends hav good relationship wit him, does not mean tey will help his daughter. C Virginia Lok’s comment on his daughter. Anyway is HKTV going to wind-down on tomorrow?

      2. Cut the guy some slack. I bet he is able to make good decisions. Joining a bad company doesn’t make him a hypocrite. If you had to choose between two roads and figured that the one you chose will land you in a hole, is dignity important? I’ll rather keep my life… I have no clue on hktvs future and how the entertainment industry works but I bet Felix knows more than us. Relationships in the entertainment industry can really help, without these relationships it is very difficult to even be known. He’s just trying to help his daughters first step if the news is real.

  10. Felix made a great choice to choose TVB again, not only for him , but also for his daughter. He can’t be a selfish father who only cares about himself, so it is a smart move.

  11. Eric can help her out by helping her getting into some movies

  12. If the article is true, i am truly disappointed in Felix. He had numerous time speak against tvb management, so even if he paved a way for his daughter, she won’t make it. From what i can see, tvb management will boost actors if they are well liked and well received, not by the audience but by management team, the father is blacklisted, so is the daughter. She has better chances at other network or maybe get out of acting if she relies on daddy’s connections to land a role.

  13. well if u want to become an actor or actress, and theres only one place u can go…what do u want these people to do?

    1. so true,he place his daughters career above of his own image, not afraid that ppl will criticize him as a hypocrite.

      1. While this is true, we must also accept that he isn’t such a wise father. Knowing your daughter will be joining the entertainment industry he should’ve just kept his mouth shut when approached by media instead of shooting his mouth off.
If he supports by joining HKTV and didn’t make so much noise/complaints, her daughter’s future won’t be jeopardised at all.

    2. I agree. He sure care a lot about his daughter. I hope that whether Adrian will join TVB or HKTV, she will appreciate what her father has done for her. I hope if TVB does not want her, she can got to cable or movies.

Felix has never been smart or slick in how he handles his opinions. But just because he is such a direct person, for him to put aside his own opinions which he holds strong for the career of his daughter creates quite a warm feeling when I think about it.

Felix may be labelled a hypocrite or a bending blade of grass, but you cannot argue that he does not have his daughter’s interest at heart.

  14. Why don’t Felix Wong consider his daughter Adrian to compete Miss Hong Kong Pageant? If she is interest to compete this Pageant will win the crown. She could sign up for TVB Management & her life will change forever.

    1. That depends on the tabloids if they could find a bad secret… may help her chances winning the pageant 🙂

  15. I wish Felix’s daughter Adrian will be the next Miss Hong Kong 2014 & TVB Artist

  16. Adrian does look pretty…maybe this picture has too much make up…but I would like to see her acting…haven’t seen before…wish her good lucky!

  17. I find this funny. Tvb better not take her. Felix is drama for ur mama. He want to recruite Michael Miu to HKTV and what happen now.

  18. What kind of a father paved the road for his daughter to work in a company he hated and often spoke up against their policies? If it was a terrible place for him, what make him thinks it’s a good place for his daughter is beyond me

    1. dont you see that tvb has changed a lot especially towards his employees the last time? maybe the fury that felix has throwed out on tvb has its effect.

      1. TVB actually hasn’t changed much at all. In writing, they’ve written about improving the working condition of TVB employees. However, in practice, nothing has changed. You should check out the interview with Nancy Sit that was posted a week or two ago, and she said the same thing.

      2. really? they better keep their words, otherwise ppl will leave the company since tvb lost their monopoly now.

  19. This is just rumor, and if it’s true, I wouldn’t understand Felix trying to put his daughter into TVB knowing how bad they treat their employees. Unless he’s really desperate for her to start her career. Maybe TVB’s changes will prove to be worth a career move.

    1. Couldn’t he get his friends like Andy Lau or Tony Leung to get them to give his daughter a spot in their films?

Better than going back to TVB which he hated.

    2. I agree, Even if TVB took her on, they would give her a horrible time in order to punish her dad. I can’t imagine she would be given any decent opportunities or roles.

I hope it isnt true, but if it is, he must have had a difficult decision to make in order to try to make her dreams come true. He seemed very loyal and enthusiastic about HKTV.
Either way, I support him and know that he is only doing it for his daughter.

  20. This is all based on observation and hearsay. Time will tell if Felix has jumped ship, until then, I will reserve my comments.

    1. Well-said! It continues to amaze me how easily people take the stuff written in gossip mags as ‘the truth’ — it’s no wonder then that these Media companies get more and more ‘daring’ with the stuff they write (which is why I’ve said from the beginning that it’s useless for even a powerhouse like TVB to ‘boycott’ certain tabloids and such — as long as there are people out there who continue to read and readily accept/believe the gossip/rumors without even trying to vet the information, the tabloids will continue to write what they want to write, since they have an audience for it).

By the way….ever since Ricky Wong’s mobile TV announcement on 12/20, there have been several articles from the tabloids about various HKTV employees ‘jumping ship’….last week, the ‘target’ was Yoyo Mung and this week, looks like it’s Felix Wong…who’ll be the target next week? Frankie Lam? Maggie Cheung?

Like Shek Sau said yesterday when he was asked to respond about the rumors surrounding Felix: “That’s just what has been reported…time will tell whether there is any validity to those reports”….

  21. kinda sucks when u want to act, theres only one place u can really go, thats tvb

  22. TVB needs more talents. Anyone that has talents and fits the role, I don’t see why not.

  23. I think Adrian’s prospect at TVB can be summed up with a quote from Virginia Lok, “Who is [Adrian]? I have never met her. I don’t know who she is. Has she attended the artist training class? Does she have acting experience?”

-Source: Felix Wong’s Daughter May Have to Give Up on Acting Dreams

  24. That has to be tough for him. He has to put aside his personal feelings in order to try and help his daughter. He must love her very much! Wish he was my dad lol.

I don’t think I would do that for a grown child.
I think they need to stand on their own and not be connected with the parents if they are to be successful on their own, otherwise people will always say that they became popular because of who they knew and not who they are.

    1. to help her daughter having a good start doesnt mean felix will/can help her everytime.if she has no talent or not popular by the audience, nobody can help her.if she got recognition by talent and win a oscar, nobody will say she win because of her father.

      1. As my opinion, Felix should approach his daughter to compete Miss Hong Kong Pageant instead join TVB.

      2. I doubt that Adrian Wong will get into the top 5 with her rather plain face。

  25. his daughter does not need to be an actress, there are other means of earning a living, btw, if she really looks like her mom, then her looks would not be sufficient to help her make it big

  26. If she can act, and if she has screen presence and charisma, then the face can be helped with make up and camera angle.

    1. Acting, screen presence and charisma are the three things that needs to use the brain and she doesn’t have that. If she got the brain in the first place she would not accept hand down from dad to get into the entertainment industry. Anyway her dad is a big mistake that work! work! and work! and not utilize what he earned over the years.

  27. really dislike Felix , feel sorry for his daughter. goodluck.

    1. hope this isn’t true. with felix’s power and hktv rising in internet tv world his daughter doesn’t need to enter tvb and be a slave

    2. He needs to stop push his daughter. Let her be what is right for her in the future.

      1. don’t think he is pushing his daughter, she made a choice to be an actor herself, should be hoping for daddy’s help

  28. If I were his daughter, I would consider to compete Pageant to be the next Miss Hong Kong 2014 instead of acting career.
