Francis Ng and Chilam Cheung Clear Recent Negative Reports

Francis Ng (吳鎮宇), Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Ron Ng (吳卓羲), Fala Chen (陳法拉), Him Law (羅仲謙), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), and other cast members of Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> appeared at a promotion event in Kowloon City today. With viewership ratings consistently hitting above 30 points, Francis and Chilam’s acting were highly praised by viewers. Both actors denied recent negative reports about their family.

Tabloids claimed that Francis is a strict and authoritative father who believes he needs to be harsh to his son in order for him to learn and gain independence. Francis was quick to deny these reports. He further stated he is not planning to send his son abroad to Singapore for education, and would have him study in Hong Kong. Francis wants his son to face the local competition and learn more Chinese.

Chilam also clarified that he did not state that his relationship with Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) had suffered a rocky bump, contrary to what earlier tabloids claimed. They have been together for two decades and their relationship is very stable.

A Disastrous Ending

When Francis accepted an interview earlier in mainland China, he told the media spoilers about the finale of Triumph in the Skies 2. According to him, everyone in the drama would die via a plane accident. At the time, he said, “We were all on our way to the Maldives for a vacation, but the airplane blew up. There was a ‘pang’, and we all [died] in the tragedy…. Because of the sad ending, there were three minutes of silence.” Francis had also revealed there definitely would not be a third installment since the story is unable to be continued.

Hearing Francis’ words, many fans were upset and questioned whether TVB would dare film such an ending. It turned out Francis had made everything up as a joke. He laughed and expressed, “I lack a sense of humor. How can there be so many spoilers anyway? I just made up the most impossible ending. Can’t believe people actually trust me!”

In terms of how Ron was constantly scolded by Francis during filming, Ron helped clear things up. “[Francis] was only joking. The drama is so inspirational. Myolie and I will have a great ending,” he revealed.

Fala Chen to Quit Studies in New York?

Triumph in the Skies 2 Fala Chen 9Absent at several previous promotional events, Fala finally appeared today to meet up with the cast. She told the press she does not know whether she should return to New York to continue acting since many opportunities are awaiting her. “My teacher emailed to ask me, because they want me to continue my studies. But after I returned to Hong Kong, I received several film scripts in both Mandarin and English. It’s making me very indecisive!”

Fala expressed she is very happy at the moment to be free from management contracts, and currently does not plan to change the situation. She brought a bottle of red wine from the United States and decided to share it with Francis and Chilam during a dinner together.

At the event, Fala also reenacted her cake-baking scene from the drama. Chilam joked and asked, “What are the measurements of Jeannette Leung (梁政鈺)?” The busy Fala accidentally slipped out, “38 grams.” Chilam laughed and expressed, “Wow, that’s so heavy!”

  1. so after all her earlier talks to study acting to improve herself, now she decided to not continue studying and tempted to go back to all the work and money?

      1. Haha can we all take a moment away from Fala’s drama and focus on how hilarious Francis’ response was LOL

    1. They are actors/actresses, it is naive to trust their words. Of course.money and fame are the most important, others are for luring

    2. Fantastic performances from Francis and Fala’s in ”Triumph in the Skies 2 衝上雲霄”.
Fala has the flair in acting and should bank in her talents than requiring improvement.

  2. I guess it is a tough decision for Fala Chen ……… to continue her acting course in New York or to accept “several film scripts in both Mandarin and English”. After all, it shows that Fala is not that bad in her acting and unpopular. Otherwise, she would not have so many offers.

    1. she has to thank francis and chilam who made triumph2 popular because if relied on herself, her acting was constantly criticized and fake. can’t erase that flying scene in episode 22! fake!

      1. Well, if Fala Chen is that bad, she would not have new offers to film movies. Producers are pretty smart in selecting their cast.

Perhaps Fala has to thank all her anti-fans to make her popular for her terrible acting!!!

      2. omg – her break-up scene with Chilam was horrific.

I’m normally not too critical of Fala in her past work but TITS2 was just not well prepared on her part.

Fala has potential, see Forensic Heroes with Johnson Li.

      3. wrong. fala was criticized for failure to convince that she’s a cop and her crying skills in a scene with damian was criticized too.

      4. fala has potential in moonlight resonance, but when she started taking lead roles she falters and become fake in her acting.

correct that fala need to thank not just francis and chilam but also ron, myolie, kenneth, elena and other cast who did a good job and held the ratings high and tvb who don’t cut scenes although she left and still promote her role, which also benefit fala, too much that it caused her to contemplate dropping her acting studies to get hold of job offers caused from high ratings of triumph2.

      5. Lmao. Kenneth did a good job? He’s barely getting any screen time.

Sometimes I wonder what you are smoking. Poor kid.

      6. Filming a drama series, whether with good or bad viewership ratings, is team work. Fala has done her best even most viewers don’t like her acting. The success belongs to the whole cast, including production crews. The drama series will still not be successful even Fala Chan’s acting is excellent.

Typical example: “Beauty at War” was a total failure despite the good acting of Sheren Tang, Ada Choi, etc. and etc.

      7. Fala Chen did good for 金石良缘 u know she has potential she just not focusing well.

      8. Kenneth did a good job? He’s barely getting any screen time.
        —————————————————————
That is why I said good acting is NOT always a must for an artiste to get popular. Timing, luck, and popularity will sometimes be more important than good acting skills.

      9. The fact that Kenneth is mentioned as doing a good job and helping keep the ratings high invalidated your entire claim.

      10. @Sandcherry,
Totally agree with you and seriously, how many actors and actresses these days truly have the talent to act well?? Not many, but yet the many that do not have any talent seem to be really popular while the few that have more talent and potential do not seem to have anything. A good example is Nancy who I think is talented but is underpromoted. Connections, luck, timing and other things all play an important role in your success, especially in the e circle.

But also, acting is subjective.. You may hate an actor/actress’s acting while others will love it…

      11. HeTieShou
Totally agree with you. That is the reason why there are always some die-hard fans and some anti-fans of every artiste.

Connections, luck, good-timing, and popularity play a super important role in life anywhere, but more so in entertainment industries. They apply to singers, artistes, directors, producers, and everyone of us.

      12. Also an artiste needs “audience’s acceptance” 觀眾緣. It seems that Nancy Wu does not have much luck and 觀眾緣.

      13. @Sandcherry,
Very well said I agree with you. I think another aspect that some may not believe in is fate. I have noticed that there are some that hope to enter the e circle(like one of my friends) but never get to while there are others that do not put any effort into it and enter as well as succeed. Besides timing, luck and connections, fate is a part of it too. For example, I heard that Wu Chun only took a vacation to Taiwan and immediately got noticed and then entered the e circle right away while there are others that try and try to no avail…

      14. HeTieShou
Fate is always the No. 1 factor to me. There is a Chinese saying:
        1) 命 (Fate)
        2) 運 (Luck)
        3) 風水 (Fengshui)
        4) 積陰德
        5) 讀書 (Study)

      15. People with good fate always get luck in their lives. They don’t have to work that hard to achieve their success. They may even get winnings in lucky draws and lotteries and gains in investments. If they don’t have good fate in their lives, they will always have a tougher time in achieving success.

      16. @Sandcherry,
Thanks for the info and you really sound like my parents. I think fate does play a big part our lives in terms of everything we do, but a part of it is also in our own hands too. However, there are just factors that we cannot control and that is when fate comes in. It is so true that I know so many people who work so hard but yet don’t get much while there are others that do not have to do much and get so much… I think that is what you call fate. I believe in fate but not as much as most of the traditional folks do.

    2. Lol ..

I am hesitant to say this but I will since it’s online and believe you aren’t too petty about these things…

Since you are her fan, you’ll find a beautified excuse for all her actions. I remember a few articles ago you were applauding fala for acknowledging her flaws and pursuing studies to sharpen her skills. Something along the line of, not many will take the time out to do this, etc. Now that she is faced with some lucrative offers, it’s perfectly okay for her to drop that noble side.

Not criticizing you or anything but I’m just seeing some similarities with you and a poster you often criticize for being overly supportive of Myolie.

      1. Well, it is of course good for an artist to sharpen his/her acting skills by taking acting courses. It will definitely be good for Fala Chen. However, sometimes opportunities are “go, going, gone”. If she does not grab them in time, she may not get them again easily.

Fala has to be smart in making her decisions, assessing all the pros and cons. I don’t know how long her acting courses are. If they only last 2 – 3 months, perhaps she can continue. If it is a longer program, perhaps she has to reassess her situation.

I hope you still remember Priscilla Chan Wai-Han, a good and popular Cantopop singer. She quit singing at her prime time and pursued her B.A. study in the States. Four years later when she graduated and returned to Hong Kong, she lost her boyfriend and singing career.

      2. It is often really hard to pick between education and a career at times if you are doing both at the same time. IN the end, you have to pick one over the other. Some artists such as Coco Lee and Aaron Yan finally chose their career. In some cases, you can have both if you are able to balance out your career and studies. Like Eric Suen, he was able to finish his studies and have his career but had to work really hard and sacrificed many other things. But you get some you lose some and cannot have everything in life.

    3. People do know that nowadays actors/actress don’t always get jobs because they have good acting right? it’s mostly because of popularity and looks. quit being delusional

  3. Fala looks different with this kind of hair style. I still like her old ones …….. without any bang.

  4. The popularity of TITS 2 has helped many artistes, such as Chilam Cheung, Kenneth Ma and Fala Chen, get more opportunities to make good money …….. to film movies ……… though most people don’t like it is a good drama series.

Sometimes good acting is not an absolute must for artistes to become popular and get hired.

      1. Correct. Ron Ng did well in TITS 2. That’s his best drama series that he did so far (as per my personal opinions).

      2. ron just needs better roles instead of hot headed and cop roles

      3. ron is a decent actor but his acting skills is far far away from bosco not everyone can be as good as bosco

      4. Personally I think Bosco Wong has a lot of potentials in his acting. He did very well in “Lives of Omission”. Kenneth Ma has also done well in the last two years, acting villainous, good and professional roles. Raymond Lam was good in the past, but he cares too much about his image now and he has not improved much in his acting. Perhaps he wants to spend more time on his singing career. Ron Ng is the weakest one among these four, but I agree that if he has a good character, like Isaac in TITS 2, he can act well.

      5. Still d annoying hands movements a handicapped role suits him more I suppose!

    1. but chilam and kenneth never hyped to media that they’re going to study acting for a while but later suddenly want to cut it short because jobs and money come following the popularity of the series :P.

    2. And hopefully for Nancy Wu, too, as she got very good compliments from movie king, Francis Ng, and veteran, Chilam Cheung. I hope TVB producers will notice that and promote her more in the near future …… to let her act 1st lead roles.

    1. Very tragic and sad ……….. everyone died. No please!

    2. Larry3,
It’s Francis’ way of saying that he will not film a “Triumph in the Skies 3”.

Maybe the movie version can feature a plane crash and some dramatic character deaths.

      1. I know he joke it.

I doubt TVB do that since TVB’s CGI on plane crash scene will be just a piece of crumble paper in the toilet, flush.

    3. Wow! Dats cool but prefer ending with Sam crash landing d plane n yet every1 survived……suspense needed……plz do it TVB!!!!!

    4. if that ending does happen, i`m just gonna laugh my ass off. too funny.

  5. Fala should quit acting school in NY and get the roles that is already on her desk. She needs more experience now then ever and dont film TVB for another year or so.

    1. Eh. I don’t think she should necessarily quit her studies because she’s also studied for 2 months(?). But if she did, it would definitely be better for her to take more varied work than she gets from TVB. Not surprised she gets a ton of Chinese offers, but English? Hmm…

      1. English ………. I have some doubts too. Maybe Mandarin and Cantonese.

      2. She needs money, She let go of her rich lover which was mistake.

      3. Honing your acting is future money. She’s a smart cookie so I think she should/would understand that.

      4. It is also true that Fala does not have any big support now from her wealthy ex-boyfriend, Daniel, and she needs to count on her own self. It is life and reality. We can’t blame her.

      5. It is good that she is more free and independent now instead of just thinking that she will always have her rich ex as a backup. Some people are too dependent on that so do not work as hard.

  6. What is this mannnnn? Like play-play. Goes to NY to study, considering quitting studies. Which means she went to NY to AVOID the paps due to reports of her breakdown of marriage/relationship/contract with her Daniel (not the pilot).

And those by Francis and Chilam, I mean can their words be twisted that extremely? Francis does not deny punishing his son! Weird!

And obviously he was joking. If that is the ending, believe me it will be MENTIONED at the start of TITS 3. TVB has no guts to show it. Moreover too expensive to film.

    1. That’s what I thought, too. The break up is no longer a rumor. So, Fala left to avoid the papz. She also needed time off to recover, which is understandable.

    2. Perhaps Fala Chen did it so that she could “kill two birds at the same time”.

    3. Or maybe it’s exactly like she says. She’s tempted by the many offers she’s getting now that she’s free of her TVB management contract. She says she’s considering quitting, not that she has quit. If she does decide to quit, then I do believe she was “killing two birds with one stone” as Sandcherry says, and wanted to avoid the papz. Personally, I hope she goes back to studying a bit more since she needs to rebuild some basic skills.

    4. So what she said about improve her acting was hypocritical?

  7. Quite shocked with what Francis has come up with recently plus his way of disciplining his children!! We are in 2013 and not 1813!! I find him too arrogant for his own good and not that good an actor. Nancy Wo and Ron is great in this series.
The only complaint of TIT2 is that they have prolonged the episodes by repeating scenes…

  8. Both Francis and Chilam look haggard in that picture. And Chilam is still wearing the terrible sunglasses that doesn’t work for his face. Good for them both that they had this opportunity to clarify recent “rumours”. Though I tend to think there was a little bit of truth in them both, i.e. Francis is a tough love old school type of parents and that Chilam and Anita have of course had some bumps in their marriage. Who doesn’t? But as usual it is nothing like or to the extend the tabloids make it out to be.

Those bangs are also horrible on Fala. In general, I’m not a fan of bangs but these seem even worse than last time. Hope she doesn’t quit her studies already! She should take recent criticism of her acting seriously and start with the basics. Skipping ahead again will only create another bottleneck problem in the future.

    1. I do, too, hope Fala will finish her short acting courses in New York. In that case, she can have her acting skills sharpened and no one will laugh at her acting in her future drama series/movies. It is worth the while. I hope those filming opportunities can wait for her (for a month or so) and Fala will excel in her future endeavours.

      1. I really wonder if those acting courses will really help her or not? Maybe that is another reason why she is debating about whether she should finish them or not?? I personally feel acting is something that you gain experience in and improve with time just like with any skill. Sure, some courses may help a bit but it really depends. Also, I feel acting is sort of an innate skill where you either truly have it or you don’t.

      2. I agree that acting is something you gain with experience. Like those in TVB acting class. After you complete training, you then start out with supporting roles to gain experience.

The question is, how many more acting classes would Fala need to take?

      3. Practical experience – acting more different types of characters/roles – will definitely help an artiste improve his/her acting skills, but I think theories will help build up the fundamentals and basic skills of an artiste.

    2. It seems that all the artistes, who had attended TVB/ATV Artistes Training Courses, act better, such as Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Andy Lau Tak-Wah, Lau Ching-Wan, Wong Chau-Sang, Nick Cheung Ka-Fai, Stephen Chow Sing-Chi, Bobby Au Yeung Chun-Wah, Ruco Chan Chin-Pang, Sheren Tang Shui-Man, Louise Lee Sze-Kee, Liza Wang Ming-Chuen, Sandra Ng Kwan-Yu, Esther Kwan Wing-Ho, Carina Lau Ka-Ling, etc. and etc.

      1. I omitted Felix Wong Yat-Wah, Michael Miu Kiu-Wai, Francis Ng Chun-Yue, Kiki Sheung Tin-Ngor, Dao Dai-Yue, and many other good supporting artistes, such as Nancy Wu.

      2. Well, to be honest….it’s not really about whether the artists take acting courses or not — it’s the content of the courses (curriculum) and the instructors that really make the difference, plus how well the person taking the course retains the information and applies it to what they do. Taking acting courses definitely doesn’t guarantee success in acting, however it can certainly help hone one’s acting skills….

Also, as a point of reference….majority of the artists listed took acting classes back in the 70s and 80s…can’t speak for ATV, but for TVB, the structure of the acting classes back then was very different than how it was going into the 90s and after 2000…the curriculum and instructors were different as well, which is part of the reason why the classes were way more effective back in the early days than they were in recent years…

      3. I don’t like Sandra Ng Kwan-Yue either, but she did get Best Actress award. Funny, eh! Personally I don’t think she can act or host. She laughs too much when she hosts any programs. Her loud and too-frequent laughing blocked her dialogues all the time.

      4. It is true that taking classes does help but does not guarantee anything. There are some that never really took acting classes but just gained experience through many years of acting and are now great actors, while some take classes but still do not act well at all. I guess it does depend on the person as well. Of course acting courses will help but it depends on the material, instructors, how well the students learn, retain and how they will actually use what they learn..

I really wonder if Barbara Yung ever took acting classes since she was a great actress to many people?? Her ex said that she was not acting in Legend of the Condor Heroes but was just being herself so you really wonder…

  9. So… Francis saw the internet backlash and so denied… Chilam’s wife saw his article and tugged on his hear so he now denies… and Fala? Needs to have a clearer vision. If you feel you need improvement and can get better, stay in school. Tell them that you’ll be ready to film next year.

The worst possible situation would be to quit school (if she feels she needs it) come back to HK and film the movies exhibiting poor acting skills which just further cements her doom.

Much better to become a better actress and THEN film movies (IMHO of course!)

    1. People need to understand that the article completely twisted his interview in the first place. He was clarifying.

      1. The article was based on his interview, but completely twisted his own words.

  10. Hope Fala will watch TITS2 by herself and decide to continue her studies or not.

  11. So really, all this about her accepting her bad acting so she go back to school is….really nothing? This girl would use any reasons to make her bad acting more acceptable.

  12. Now I really wonder if Fala used studying in the US to escape from the media??

    1. I think so. Sounds more like Fala is promoting herself (not TITS2). She needs the money.

“received several film scripts in both Mandarin and English”

If true, maybe more nudity roles? If they were lucrative/good roles, she would have accepted already. LOL 🙂

  13. You know, Francis’ made-up version of the ending might not be that bad after all 🙂

I remember they TVB taking an almost similar route with the final Files of Justice where Bowie Lam’s villainously unhinged character killed almost everyone with a torpedo gun!

  14. Fala besides beauty and talent, her plus points in speaking fluent English and Mandarin can lead her way making movies
