Fred Cheng Excites Fans with Sexy Dance at Hong Kong Concert

Fred Cheng (鄭俊弘) successfully held his second solo concert, The Red Concert, at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre Star Hall on September 5. The two-hour concert features the guest performances of Fred’s band HOME and Taichi (太極樂隊) members Patrick Lui (雷有暉) and Joey Tang (鄧建明), who also directed the concert.

In the concert, the 31-year-old singer surprised fans with a sexy dance number with a female dancer. They started off with a slow, sensual dance, but the dancer later unbuttoned his shirt and tried to tear it off, revealing Fred’s bare chest. The dancer then pushed Fred to a sofa and pretended to kiss him.

After the song ended, Fred shy buttoned back his shirt, but fans retorted that they could not see him well. Fred laughed and said, “Enough! Next time!”

The concert showed many pictures of Fred when he was younger, including the days when he performed with his band, HOME. Fred said, “These pictures are pretty interesting—the fat little kid had his own stage. When I was younger I used to play ‘Monica’ a lot with a toy guitar, but I didn’t know my aunt was watching me the entire time! I learned kung fu when I was in primary school because I was bullied a lot. I was a quiet boy, so my uncle told me to learn kung fu. He was also the one who told me to learn the guitar. I’m very thankful.”

At the end of the concert, Fred’s fans presented him with a large fanned ticket to the Hong Kong Coliseum, wishing him that he would be able to hold his own concert at the renowned Hong Kong Coliseum in the future. Fred thanked his fans again during the encore, explaining that fans from all over the world has flown over to Hong Kong just to watch him.

Fred received a brief interview after the concert. He expressed that he spent a long time training at the gym and was very nervous before performing his sexy dance number. Asking how many time he has rehearsed the performance, he laughed and said, “We rehearsed once yesterday. Tonight was the second time. (Is this your limit?) Somewhat. (What if it’s for the Hong Kong Coliseum?) I’ll think about it when that time comes. I do want another breakthrough.”

Mentioning that singer Alex To (杜德偉) once wore only briefs on stage, Fred said, “Well, he had a song to go with it. I don’t have that confidence.”

  1. Ugh, wish Fred just stick to singing instead these sex-sell gemick. He’s known and became popular because of his voice. This is a distraction and diversion. You can be a successful singer without all these craps. Look at Adelle, Sam Smith, Lana, etc.

    1. @jjwong Agree if the singer has a good voice. However, this may not be the best for a singer in Hong Kong these days. People like gimmicks, sexy images, and show styles. In old days, he/she could not be a singer if he/she did not have a good voice. No gimmicks, sexy image, sensual dances was required in any concert

      1. @orchid123 agree that Fred isn’t the best singer. He got his popularity by his voice though so he should stay with that. His Mentor Mo (idk how to spell his name) is an awesome singer that sells his voice and not sex appeal so Fred should’ve follow his steps instead. It’s pity imo.

  2. I went to the concert, and the “sexy dance” segment was actually pretty tastefully executed and he only flashed his chest for a couple of seconds lol! Unfortunately HK media likes to highlight such things, and sadly, in HK its de rigeur to train for 6-packs and so some kinda exposé in concerts – all the other big stars do it. It isn’t enuf to entertain with just a good voice anymore. They want visual impact – flashy costumes, sexy “gimmicks” etc. Even CAllStar who had their concert just a couple of days earlier – one of their members stripped – and not so tastefully done may I add.

This is Fred’s 2nd concert in just 10 months. His first concert was just focused on music, but this time he made an effort to offer new twists and up his game. HIs ambition is to do HK Coliseum, and with that aim – he needs to prove he is a formidable artiste who can perform out of his comfort zone.

It was overall a very entertaining show with seriously good music. Performing 28 songs without any guests, he sang amazingly well fm beginning to end, and offered everything fm canto pop to rap, band sound/rock, dance etc – covering fm MJ to Bruno Mars, Leslie, Eason, Aaron, Beyond etc, apart fm his own hits.

I have to applaud his efforts, and his own band Home writes some really good music. May I also add Fred plays a mean guitar, and his few guitar solos in a couple of songs were amazing and captivating 🙂

Fred Cheng is definitely the newcomer to watch in HK music scene.
