Since marrying wealthy businessman, Patrick Ma (馬廷強) in 2009, Gigi Lai (黎姿) has been a virtuous wife and mother. After giving birth in July 2010, Gigi cherished every moment with her twin daughters. Eager to give her husband a son, Gigi may have delighted him with a “double surprise”! It was understood that Gigi is currently carrying a pair of twin boys in her second pregnancy!
Forty-year-old Gigi Lai conceived twins in both her pregnancies after receiving in-vitro fertilization treatments. In her first pregnancy, Gigi gave birth prematurely and one of the twins weighed only 3 pounds at the time, requiring extended hospitalization after birth. Nevertheless, Gigi’s daughters have now grown up happily and healthily.
The proud mother often blogged about the wonderful time spent with her daughters. Gigi wrote, “I enjoy each moment in taking care of my children and their healthy development.”
With another high risk pregnancy carrying twin boys this time, Gigi has taken extra precautions and reduced her work load. Gigi was CEO of CosMax Laser and Medical Skin Care Centre in Hong Kong, which her younger brother, Lai Ying, initially founded. Gigi has left the daily operations of the skin care clinic to her staff to oversee.
In April, Gigi had announced her second pregnancy on her Weibo blog. She wrote, “I am very grateful. The doctor confirmed that I am pregnant once again!” Gigi is currently in her fifth month of pregnancy and has taken a relaxed approach, often enjoying spa treatments in her spare time. Gaining 9 kg in her pregnancy thus far, Gigi possessed a good appetite.
According to Hong Kong tabloids, Gigi’s husband, Patrick Ma, has been delighted with Gigi becoming pregnant once again. To show his appreciation, he allegedly intended to lavish Gigi with a new luxury home purchase!

But out of curiosity, did they plan to have twins via IVF or did two embryos accidently get stuck together in the syringe?
With IVF you I think they normally implant more than one embryo because they have more chance of at least one of them surviving. That’s why you hear of multiple births when people conceive via IVF.
