Grace Chan and Sisley Choi Become True Friends After Resolving Misunderstanding

Having just started their acting careers after participating in the 2013 Miss Hong Kong Pageant together, Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) reflected upon the touching memories of how their deep friendship was formed. Although the women once experienced misunderstandings during the pageant, they became true friends after a heart-to-heart talk. In an interview, Grace and Sisley spoke about past experiences and how they learned from each other’s personalities.

Near the beginning of the pageant, both Grace and Sisley had good impressions of each other, but were unable to familiarize themselves since there were over twenty contestants. Grace remembered Sisley as a very unique Westernized girl who opted for a simple black top instead of a colorful dress on the interview day. Meanwhile, Sisley admired Grace’s strong leadership skills and her ability to lead interesting conversations. “I wanted to ask you out for a run together, but that never happened,” she recalled.

However, misunderstandings were hard to avoid when Grace and Sisley were soon constantly put under the spotlight for comparison. Long before the day of the pageant finals, they made newspaper headlines and were heavily compared by the press and public, accumulating pressure and tension. Once, Sisley felt like some of Grace’s words seemed to be targeting her. Fortunately, the misunderstanding was later resolved after the girls sat down to talk it out.

Grace questioned, “Why did that kind of misunderstanding occur anyway? Maybe we were both quite sensitive.” Sisley recalled, “I was offended at the time and wondered why you said such things. But it turns out you didn’t mean it that way. I was being too sensitive, and our relationship became better and better after having a deep conversation.”

Sisley Cried in Happiness Over Grace’s Pageant Win

When Grace was announced as the winner of the 2013 Miss Hong Kong Pageant on the evening of the finals, Sisley could not refrain from shedding tears of joy for her friend. Grace knew instantly that she was a true friend who genuinely supported her. Sisley explained to Grace, “It felt like watching my daughter get married. We experienced so much together, and the award was very important to you. It’s like the second page of your life. Of course, I was very happy for you when you received the award.”

Learns From Each Other’s Qualities

Sisley admitted that she is an extremely blunt and straightforward person, to the extent that it may offend others. Once, she directly pointed out to someone that her jacket looked very ugly. Sisley expressed that since knowing Grace, she has learned how to behave more tactfully and to consider other people’s feelings before she speaks.

On the other hand, Grace praised Sisley for being a very thoughtful person. While filming, Sisley would pay attention to all the details and reflect back on her own performance. Grace believes it is a wonderful attitude that can help foster improvement.

Sisley further revealed she is a stubborn person who easily pressures herself and does not like to openly discuss her problems with others. Having studied abroad away from parents, she has learned to become very independent and is able to resolve matters herself. In contrast, Grace prefers to discuss issues with family and friends to avoid bottling up negative emotions.

  1. Sisley is jealous of Grace for winning. Grace looks better and more elegant than sis.

    1. I think so too and Sisley looks nothing special in my eye tbh.

  2. i don’t really care for either one of them and actually like the 2nd runner up, Moon Lau the best. she has a pure and natural appearance and doesn’t seem to try too hard in sucking up to others….which may be a reason why she’s not as prominent as these two, but i like here like that. 🙂

  3. When is TVB will open Miss Hong Kong 2014 Recruitment? Hope they will make it happen for this year of Pageant. Can’t wait to see Miss Hong Kong 2013 Grace Chan will crown her successor at the end of the event.

  4. Sisley is not leading actress status. Grace definitely is.

  5. why sisley choi looks so normal ordinary and average looking girl? grace is indeed rare beauty with quality and “Miss HK” already scream out in her even before she decides to enter Miss HK…if she stands among 100 girls, its still obvious Grace is the only rare beauty pretty girl that single out easily by us

  6. i think both are extremely pretty girls. grace’s facial features look very western so people tend to find her more attractive. however, by chinese standards, sisley’s very pretty. it’s sad that we all seem to measure beauty by western ideals.

  7. I think Sisley looks a lot like Toby Leung.

  8. Yes I get it. Grace is perfect. Even this article is used to project an image of Grace as perfect. My guess is Sisley will be a better actress because there can be no better actress than one who is constantly undermined to lift the image of the other. I am sure she is seething with jealousy.

  9. hi there

    1. I think so too. And, Grace’s face shape it still changing.

  10. and she doesn’t look like that when she was little (trust me i am telling the truth) when she was little she doesn’t look like that before when she was little her skin colour is quite brown coloured and now is way different from when she was little i saw the photo on the internet!!!<3

  11. Seriously? They had a misunderstanding and then sat down and talked about it and now they’re good friends? Gosh I hope everyone in this world can do this so there’ll be no war. They need to set up more interviews. Let the world leaders learn from them. Sarcasm intended. 🙂
