Grace Wong May Leave TVB to Pursue Music Career

Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) decision to end her management contract with TVB has inspired Grace Wong (王君馨) to consider leaving TVB as well. Grace hoped to utilize her dancing skills and pursue a music career instead.

Growing up in New York, it was always Grace’s dream to work in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. She entered the industry after winning the 2007 Miss Hong Kong first runner-up title.  Portraying minor roles in TVB dramas, Grace became well known for her wholesome image and strong religious beliefs.

Grace also impressed audiences with her dancing skills after winning the Dancing Queen title in Strictly Come Dancing <舞動奇跡>.  Participating in the dancing program not only brought Grace greater recognition, but also sparked her dream to become a singer. Finding music to be a fulfilling platform to express her thoughts, Grace recently started writing her own songs.

In a phone interview, Grace admitted that she is disappointed in her career prospects as an actress and is re-evaluating her future. Grace said, “All along, there have been music companies seeking me out. I am considering which music company is suitable for me and my image. Many singers often sing melancholy songs. I wish the [music message] to be positive, but it doesn’t have to be about [Christianity].”

Grace admitted that she will consider her future options carefully, and there is a possibility that she will not renew her management contract with TVB. Grace also found Fala Chen’s recent decision to end her TVB management contract and enroll in a New York summer course to be inspiring. Grace said, “I’ve been in the industry for six years. As Fala said, it’s time  for self-improvement.”

  1. Not yet mastered acting, now she wants to sing. What’s next? Model?

    1. I don’t think anyone can ever mastered the art of acting or singing. There is always room to improve.

      1. Um actually yes you can master the art of acting or singing? Why else would a MASTER’S degree be offered for such things?

      2. A master’s degree is quite limited since the person is focusing on one aspect of acting. And the standard of good acting is also subjective as a whole. A master’s degree will only show that the person is educated in that area. It does not mean that the person can act.

    2. exactly my points, she’s not even a good actress yet and now jumping into singing haha…lol..these people really but then again, alot of ms.hk’s are doing that, they like to be called ‘multitalented’? haha tvb probably won’t miss her much thou since she’s not really that popular anyway.

    3. well maybe she’s not made for acting. she’s a pageant winner, all pageant winners are forced to go into acting first before expanding into other entertainment areas

  2. Music career…haha. Sorry but, she needs to stay in acting or modeling. Singing, I doubt she make it big in the mainstream.

    1. Agree. Singing career is even harder than tv career. Not that many TVB actresses/actors achieve even a moderate success in music.

  3. She’s still a rough actress but when your juniors get offered lead roles over you, it’s hard to stay optimistic, I guess.

  4. Wow she’s been with tvb for 6 years? Time flies!

  5. I haven’t heard her singing, so I won’t comment on it. But whatever she decides, I hope she does the things she loves.

But I think in order to achieve a fadan status or grow out of that shell, an artiste needs to be persistence and don’t give up so easily. I mean, look at Nancy Wu, Ben Wong and Oscar Leung, they are only starting to be promoted by TVB (:

    1. Episode 3 Johnson Lee’s “Office Jokes”… her singing

      1. To judge her on just one episode is not fair to the artiste (Grace Wong) herself.

      2. I’m telling Bubblez that if she is going to jduge on that one episode you listed for her to listen to, it won’t be fair.

      3. Then dont reply to my post. Reply to Bubblez to avoid the confusion.

      4. Thanks Larry. I’ll check that out sometime.

  6. There is not much money to earn in the music world, only the big famous singers that can hold concerts every year earn enough money.

    1. “Finding music to be a fulfilling platform to express her thoughts, Grace recently started writing her own songs.”

If Grace is a good composer, isn’t there good money in that?

Anyways, sounds like many artists are considering/threatening to leave TVB due to low pay and long hours.

      1. She needs lots of connections just to be a decent singer.

Well her chance maybe The Voice 3, TVB actors/actress only competition

  7. A good dancer does not translate to a good singer. The most basic requirement to be a singer should be one can sing. Dancing ability should just be a bonus. Grace should consider carefully.

    1. Exactly, just like Aaron Kwok, who is a good dancer, his concerts are excellent. But his singing is so so

  8. look at what happened to kate tsui. pageant winner but sucky singer!!!!

dunno man…. singer is a bit risky… there’s so many good ones but they’re all struggling ………….Loretta chow is still working on it after she left tvb. Look at her now. No jobs no nothing. Just random posts on Weibo is all I hear about her.

    1. Loretta is recording her EP right now which will come out this year. She recently signed wtih Media asia, so shes a heavily promoted newcomer this year. Im looking forward to her music. East Asia is a strong company.

  9. Well, maybe hanjin will help her, since he owes her one for pranking her. Hahah.

But if she doesnt move onto singin or other areas now, when can she do it? Try actig for another 10 yrs then go try singing later? Thats too late for carving out any career..

  10. Off topic : that’s really a good pic of her.

  11. is she for real? better off stay in tvb! she will be forgotten in hk music industry and look how many failed after their first and only album! kate, jj jia, cilla kung!

  12. Are you kidding me?!!! Did you not remember what Hanjin said in Office of Practical Jokes?!! What he said wasn’t a joke, it was true! She sounded horrible singing in that studio!

    1. Even the director said it suck. Which it is true.

  13. Her singing SUCKS! Saw her at one of TVB’s new years eve shows. Man, she will not make it as a singer.

  14. Its harder to make it big as a singer than an actress in hk. Why not make it big as an actress first than branch out to singing, like what linda etc do, so you in a way don’t have to start from scratch trying to build a fan base.

  15. She is just a supporting actress. She has never been the leading actress. And she’s thinking leaving TVB? How smart is that? Many singers rely on being on movies, tv series, commercials … to survive and to get the exposure. There are way to many singers in HK and I don’t think she will stand out from the crowd. She cannot compare herself with Fala. Fala has a rich boyfriend behind her, Grace doesn’t. I don’t Grace will make it without TVB.

    1. Correction: I don’t *think* Grace will make it …

  16. I’m curious what annual income does Grace have?

    1. Working with peanuts. She is modeling and MCing as well just get more money into her pocket.

    1. well they are catchy songs, esp. Price Tag.
