Hawick Lau Wants to Keep Baby’s Gender a Surprise

Hawick Lau (劉愷威) and Yang Mi (楊冪) are busy making preparations to welcome their first child. Although Yang Mi is currently six-months pregnant, the couple has yet to find out the gender of their baby, hoping to keep it a surprise.
Hawick attended Hong Kong’s FILMART convention on March 25 to promote Across Heaven and Earth <風雲天地>, his first TVB series since leaving the company in 2005. A joint project between Hong Kong and China, the drama stars Liza Wang (汪明荃), Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Angie Chiu (趙雅芝), Kenny Wong (黃德斌), and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) in a story about sibling rivalry over family inheritance. The forty-episode series was helmed by director Wong Jing (王晶), and was filmed over three months in Hong Kong, China, and France.
Having achieved immense success in China, Hawick seems to have settled down in the Mainland and has no plans to sign with TVB again. He however appreciates the opportunity to work with great talents closer to home. “I had the pleasure of working with Liza Wang and Gigi Wong (黃淑儀), and I was able to visit my family while in Hong Kong.”
With a baby on the way and a popular drama, The Wife’s Secret <妻子的秘密>, currently on the air, Hawick is working hard to complete his many work commitments before taking a break to cross his life’s major milestone. He revealed that Yang Mi is currently resting in Hong Kong under his family’s care, and admits that she will very likely give birth in the city.
Although Hawick is crossing his fingers for a daughter, he and Yang Mi do not know their baby’s gender yet and are suppressing the urge to find out in order to keep it a true surprise. Already thinking about the big moment, Hawick plans to accompany Yang Mi throughout the birth, and is looking forward to cutting their baby’s umbilical cord.
