Huang Xiaoming Bares His Butt for Vicki Zhao

In the Chinese comedy-action blockbuster Hollywood Adventures <橫衝直撞荷里活>, which will open in Hong Kong on August 27, three unlikely Chinese tourists Vicki Zhao (趙薇), Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明), and Tong Dawei (佟大為) meet each other in Hollywood and accidentally stumble upon a smuggling operation. Becoming America’s most wanted criminals overnight, the trio travel through the state to escape persecution and prove their innocence.

Produced by Vicki, the 39-year-old had a hand in casting her close friend from college, Xiaoming, and her costar in Tiger Mom <虎媽猫爸>, Dawei, to star in the film with her. Though both Xiaoming and Vicki are married with families, Xiaoming takes pride in admitting that he used to have a crush on her when they were students.

Xiaoming went all out to shoot the action scenes in Hollywood Adventures, which includes many car chasing sequences. He seldom used a body double, preferring to do the stunts himself. In one daring sequence, Xiaoming bared his butt in the middle of a crowded street, joking that he only did it for Vicki. Dawei praised Xiaoming’s courage.

Hollywood Adventures, directed by rookie director Timothy Kendall, opened in China on June 26 and raked in nearly 330 million RMB in the domestic box office after only 17 days of release. The film will open in Hong Kong on August 27.
