Twenty-two-year-old model, Jessica C., suffered an unfortunate turn of events recently. A bank’s surveillance tape revealed that Jessica had taken $600 HKD that a customer left behind at an ATM in July 2010. Yesterday, a man who was not fluent in Cantonese attempted to sell the sex photos and video clips for a high price. The man, who was Jessica’s American boyfriend, claimed the photos and videos were taken two years ago in Chicago. Contrary to earlier speculations, the man [featured in the pornographic photos] was not Jessica’s Brazilian model boyfriend, Sergio, whom she had recently broken up with.
Jessica’s manager, Christine, did not deny the authenticity of the photos, while stressing that Jessica was a victim in the incident. In a text message, Christine replied to the media’s inquiries, “Jessica is currently in Taiwan filming and will respond to the recent reports as soon as possible. Many thanks Jessica’s fans, friends and people who care about her. Whether the photos are authentic or not, please understand that Jessica is the victim.”

The problem is that when young girls are dating, they can’t see beyond their current dating relationship, that perhaps young love may not last forever. People do pretty stupid things in love and perhaps these girls think that by taking these type of photos, they will please their boyfriends, who consider such photos to be trophies. When a friendship or relationship is over, people can get very bitter and capable of very hurtful actions. In the old days, the guy would just tell sexcapades to his school friends, now he uploads the photos online to prove his story.

Certainly people are more emboldened to broadcast their private affairs through the constant 24/7 conversations that occur online. Facebook and blogs intrinsically appeal to people who desire the attention and instanteous feedback, boosting our self-gratification levels immediately. Certainly the attention inflates our ego, self-importance, and self-construed popularity levels. Who doesn’t wish to be well liked? To continue to feed this audience, we reveal more and more of our personal information online and disregard for privacy.
Worse yet, we forget consciously of who exactly that “audience” may be, which may consist of work colleagues and supervisors. Really, what’s on the internet will not give you any degree of privacy. Whatever you post on Facebook is notoriously being “leaked” to people who may be snooping at those photos secretly.

Jessica C. is a celebrity and there will always be men eager to date and marry someone famous. I wouldn’t say that her marriage prospects are ruined.

Yes the net changes social dynamics. Aside from the pitfalls as you mention, it also empowers people to talk across countries and reach a very diverse audience.
