Jiro Wang Signs with Mainland Chinese Management Company

Taiwanese actor/singer Jiro Wang (汪東城) recently signed with a new management company called Hai Run Media. Based in mainland China, Hai Run Media also manages well-known actress Betty Sun (孫儷), who appeared at the press conference to welcome Jiro to the family. Also present was novelist Hai Yan (海岩), who shared that he had invited Jiro to star in an upcoming adaptation of his book, Bandit of Chang’an <長安盜>.

When asked about this new shift in management, Jiro likened it the inevitable movement of the ocean waves, since the first character in Hai Run Media means “ocean.” “[My surname] Wang contains the character for water,” he explained, “and water is supposed to enter the ocean.” Hai Run executive Liu Yanming (劉燕銘) added that this new contract would allow Jiro’s television dramas, movies, and music albums to be combined under one name.

At the contract-signing ceremony, Hai Run revealed a surprise for Jiro when writer Hai Yan shared that he hoped the singer/actor would be able to star in one of his works. “I recently wrote a book called Bandit of Chang’an, which is about a true story that happened in Xi’an,” said Hai Yan. “I hope to turn it into a drama and a movie. The story’s protagonist is a police officer, and I think [Jiro] is very suited to portray a police officer.”

Betty Sun also showed up at the event, which was a pleasant surprise for Jiro, a self-proclaimed fan of her dramas Jade Goddess of Mercy <玉觀音> and Legend of Zhen Huan <后宮甄嬛傳>. He was so nervous upon meeting his idol that he kept perspiring and insisted on addressing Betty as “Empress,” as her character is known in Legend of Zhen Huan.

However, Betty joked that Jiro had beaten her when it came to press conferences, since Hai Run had never held one for her, even though she had been under their management for twelve years.  “Two years ago, the company promised me that they would give me a grand press conference when I renewed my contract,” she stated. “It’s been two years already. A few days ago, I received a notice to attend a press conference. I figured that it was close to my birthday – could it be that the company had prepared a surprise? After I got all dressed up and came to the press conference, I discovered that it had nothing to do with me, and my heart flowed with tears.”

  1. I was and still is shocked at how different his face is compared to the past. Everyone is probably upgrade from version 1.0 to 1.1 but his is like version 2.0.

Same feeling when I saw Angelababy singing and dancing with Jay Chou who looked like he was very interested in her. She is pretty but again from 1.0 to 3.0 sort of looks. She looks so scary, so mannequin, so expressionless. And these people want to be actors where the ability to emote is everything.

i can’t understand it. As long as they ease on the botox I suppose…

    1. agreed. I can tell the difference though I’m not kind of his fan. Hmm.. maybe the picture doesn’t do justice on him. But I’m still attracted to his looks, something cant be seen as ‘perfect’ but you know, its distinguished

      1. I mean his looks now as opposed to It Started With A Kiss. It is drastic.

    2. Well, ISWAK was filmed almost 10 years ago. You can’t expect him to look the same as he did in his early twenties… Ariel Lin has changed quite a lot to. I guess that is what happens when you “grow up”.

      1. Growing up is one thing, but to change in that kind of way is NOT a result of growing up. That is one the most common excuses that artists use to cover up their PS. Do they think the public is blind and stupid??

    3. That is how it is when you do too much plastic surgery which is why it is called “plastic” surgery. As a result, they get mannequin like and stiff to the point that is scary. I wonder if any of them will end up looking like Dodo Cheng in that one photo that we saw? She is a good example of PS that is overdue and worn out.

    1. I also thought he looks the same, but seem to have lost weight (maybe because he’s wearing a suit?). In certain pictures I find him quite similar in looks to Aaron Yan.

    2. I think he still looks like himself so his PS is not as major as Viann Zhang and Angelababy for example. But we can clearly see that he has something done. Same with Aaron Yan who has also changed a lot.

  2. Wow i thought that was louis koo!!! Damn anyone who says he looks the same probably need their eyes checked or seriously in denial. He obviously had PS!

    1. He’s much cuter than Louis Koo? haha..LOL..
I think he did have PS on his nose or something. Perhaps he was really cute as is before but he looks a bit diff now…NOT YOUNG VS OLDER but his nose overall made him a bit diff i think. c

  3. i think he looks totally different. couldn’t recognize him. growing up doesn’t really make you look that different

    1. I think he still has many traits of his old self, but we can clearly see that he has had things done.

  4. Well, whatever!!! If he did PS or not so I think nothing wrong with that! His main aim being artist is to entertain and to look good or better as much as possible! Lot of Artists doing PS too! but i think it should not be a ground for us to misjudged him or anyone.
Just try to appreciate things and be happy for others!

    1. True that it is not a big deal but the biggest deal is them lying through their teeth. If they are brave enough to admit it then I am sure many will not criticize them for it. However, we can all clearly see it but yet they still continue to lie through their teeth.
