Joe Ma and Wife to Hold Second Wedding
They say maintaining a relationship is one of the most difficult tasks. However, childhood sweethearts, Joe Ma (馬德鐘) and his wife, Karen Cheung (張筱蘭) managed to stay together through thick and thin even after two decades. Because a fortune-teller once told Joe that he would have two marriages in his lifetime, Joe decided to escape that fate by getting remarried to his wife.
Childhood Lovers
Joe and Karen met in school when they were twelve years old, and by fate, it was love at first sight. Joe admitted, “When I first saw her, she was like an angel from heaven. I only saw her and no one else.” They two eventually started a relationship and married after six years of dating. This happened before Joe entered the entertainment circle and since they only relied on his police officer salary, they pair did not hold a wedding ceremony and simply registered for marriage.
Despite having a playboy image, Joe is not an overly romantic man. According to Karen, he proposed on the phone and disregarded the traditional methods of a marriage proposal. “I was in a telephone booth and at that moment, I just knew it was time,” Joe added nonchalantly.
Despite not being highly romantic, he still manages to surprise Karen over their last wedding anniversaries. Joe frequently works overseas and Karen and their son would visit him on set during their special day. Karen would think that Joe did not get her a gift, but in reality, Joe and their son would always have a present secretly planned.
Marriage and Charity
While the duo is preparing for a second wedding, they also want to take the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. The ceremony to commemorate their 20th wedding anniversary will be held on June 28 and on the same day they will hold an auction to raise money for the Alzheimer’s disease research centers. When asked about the connection between the two, Joe said, “The idea of charity and our anniversary have always been on my mind and I’m hoping that our love will help evolve something greater than just the two of us.”

I don’t think it is money since I am sure with her education level and all, she is able to make her own money. However, I think it is the fact that she loves him so much to stay with him even if he did cheat on her. What a good wife and I hope that Joe learns how to cherish her.
It’s a very rare to have such a wonderfully good wife like karen to tolerate so much of his husband that she wouldn’t mind he betrays her often behind her back. So loyal!!

I think it is lovely to read such an enduring marriage. Do I believe she loves him and he loves her? Yes I do. She is a smart beautiful woman. He is a successful handsome man. They make beautiful son. Do I believe all those rumours of infidelity on his part? Of course. I also believe she forgave him time and time again. Point is they endured over that 7 year itch and stuff. So good for them. But I never once disbelief those rumours of affair. I think he did get naughty but probably she is those type that as long as he comes home to her, everybody else is just well… which rich socialite said of another actress dating her son where she said similar things and basically branded the actress a prostitute? His wife is being too weak. Allowing her husband to have an affair as long as he comes back is very outdated in this 21st century. What if it is the other way round that she is naughty, and her husband allows it as long as she comes back? What 21st-century wives should do is divorce him and ask him to pay alimony monthly.

It’s none of your business whether she allows her husband to have an affair or not. Everyone thinks differently when their husband or wife has an affair–some accept it, some don’t, some immediately kill their husband or wife after finding out the affair. Thus, what would you do does not mean what other people would do.
And do you know that some women don’t mind their husband has an affair as long as they get money every month, the house and all property are under their name and they are legally allowed to get all their husband’s estates after their husband dies? Maybe Karen is one of those women? Yeah, she is educated and able to be financially independent, but who knows what she plans in her mind? Like we know her personally. Nobody knows why Karen does not divorce her husband even though it is obvious that her husband is the wrong party, not her. But one thing I know is that there are many people in this world that have worse situations than Karen.
his wife sounds too nice and submissive if like this. joe has been caught red handed by media time and time again first in thailand and later in hengdian and all she’s doing is forgiving. sure she’s nice and strong to endure it all to save her marriage but at the same time weak for allowing her forgiveness being used by an unfilial man again and again

Funn, I’m with you on this one. She truly does love him, and he realizes she’s a keeper. She might have handled his infidelity in what some may perceive to be a “weak” way, but it actually takes more strength to forgive and preserve a marriage than it takes to get a bitter divorce.
