Joey Meng Celebrates Lunar New Year with a Big Smile

For the Year of the Goat, Joey Meng (萬綺雯) prepared many handwritten New Year scrolls to pass out to her friends, colleagues, and family, showing off her unique calligraphy and drawing skills. For her husband Chan Sap Sam (陳十三), Joey prepared a heart-shaped scroll. “I’m worried that my husband would vomit when he sees this!”

Joey said she has the same wish every year: “I want everyone to be healthy and happy.”

Completing TVB period drama With or Without You <東坡家事> in Wuxi before the Lunar New Year, Joey rushed back to Hong Kong. “I spent New Year’s day with my family. On the second day, I went to my husband’s home. On the third day, we visited my husband’s academy performing arts classmates. We went to Sunny Chan’s (陳錦鴻) house.” Joey mentioned every year, the couple has a similar schedule.

With a large extended family, the Lunar New Year holidays are always very busy for Joey. “My mother has seven siblings, and I have a lot of cousins, nephews, and nieces. We need at least three tables.”

In addition to visiting family and friends, Joey and her husband would always visit the flower markets, a Hong Kong tradition for New Year’s Eve. “We would always buy flowers and tangerines at the night markets. In the last two years I’ve discovered that the flowers in my own garden are better, so now I just buy tangerines! Also, I’ve been very busy in the last two years, and don’t have time to decorate my house.”

Joey did not forget to wrap red envelopes for her TVB colleagues, adding, “I will definitely give more [money] to my costars in With or Without You. We’ve already promised to pass out red envelopes to each other at the studios. Besides, Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華) would always treat [the cast] to meals whenever he had time. I’ll make him treat us to a more expensive meal for New Year!”

  1. She’s such a jovial person! Perhaps that’s her secret to stay youthful. 🙂

  2. Joey Meng could be the next TV Queen after Charmaine Sheh, who won last year award. Hopefully make it happen.
