Kai Ko Tearfully Apologizes for Drug Scandal

After Kai Ko (柯震東) was arrested on August 14 for illegal drug usage, he was detained in a correctional facility for 15 days. Almost immediate upon his release, he held an official press conference in Beijing to apologize for his wrongdoings.

Accompanied by his parents and manager, Angie Chai (柴智屏), Kai appeared sullen and bowed three times and asked for the public’s forgiveness. Throughout the press conference, Kai was emotionally unstable and broke into tears – he clenched his fists and rubbing his fingers together. Kai vowed to never break the law again and abuse drugs. “I’m very sorry that I made everyone worry because of my selfish and stupid actions. I gave everyone a lot of pressure and my parents and my brother are very sorry too. Angie and I have worked together for 3 years and so the directors, actors, and drama teams trust me a lot. But I disappointed them. I didn’t think that it would make me feel this sad. I’m very sorry.”

Faces Media Directly

To prove that he is taking full responsibility of his own actions and let the public see him as a changed person, Kai did not hesitate to answer any questions. Kai revealed that the next step would be to aid the prosecutors with the investigation. He will face the consequences directly and reflect on his wrongdoings to become a better person.

Prior to the press conference, it was reported that Kai was frustrated and shoved a reporter amid the chaos. Denying that he physically hurt anyone, Kai also refuted the claims that he swore at the press.

No One to Blame But Himself

When asked if the drug scandal was the fault of Jaycee Chan (房祖名), who admitted to using marijuana for eight years, Kai firmly stated, “No, there’s no one person who’s wrong or right in this situation. It’s my fault for making bad decisions. I take responsibility for my own problems.”

Kai’s manager, Angie, clarified the allegations on Kai’s drug usage, “It didn’t happen every day in the last two years, but he tried it for the first time two years ago. He was trying it for fun. However, I believe that he’ll learn from this experience and will rethink his choices in the future.”

After the press conference ended, Kai and his family headed to the airport to fly back to Taiwan. There, the Taiwanese star will be holding a second press appearance where he will apologize to the public.

  1. Lol it is only weed. Everyone needs to chill out

    1. It’s not so much the weed as it is getting caught smoking and maybe distributing it…in China of all countries…only got himself to blame.

      1. Oh i guess weed distribution is a big deal, but smoking it? To me that is on par, or even safer than alcohol and cigarettes.

    1. ” What does this tell you when other people whom committed equal drug offences receive capital punishment, that been sentence to death and they were never allowed to go home. So what moral, justice and righteous has been shown to the rest of its people and the rest of the world. That is not equality and clearly isn’t the Chinese Dream they been talking about.”

      1. Justice to the dead souls who received they punishment!!

        Bad omen, bad bad bad!!!!!

      2. $$$$ talks “big” time. Of course “corrupt” China can be bought.

      3. Nobody will be executed in China on drug usage. They are users, not distributors for money.

Only the latter get capital punishments. Get your facts and knowledge right before you open your mouth, you little ‘gwai chai’!

Too much of American and western media bombarding day in day out on your simple mind.

        Same with smarties like MW.

      4. no one in china gets executed if they’re caught using and even selling marijuana. sellers go to jail though.

only those who are caught selling, spreading, or even carrying the harsher drugs like cocaine, heroine, meth and etc gets executed.

so before you make statements of how celebrities or rich and influential people can just pay off their crimes (as if that doesn’t happen anywhere else?), be sure to know the facts first.

      5. How did Kai Ko manage to leave the country/China (when most people would be prosecuted without extradition)? Special treatment without $$$$? Really?

Who cares whether the death penalty happens or not. Throw a charge at them anyways. That’s the best rehab. 🙂

  2. What’s with the tearful apology. An insult to the parents for how he handle this matter. 🙁 LOL!

  3. Yup, turn on the waterworks and hope the public buys it! He’s not the first to do this, and won’t be the last.

    1. you took the words right out of my mouth @DramaAddict. My friend got cursed out for saying that Kai Ko is a pothead about a year ago. My friend got banned from a bubble tea house owned by a Taiwanese family because the 19 and 21 year old daughters were hurt and angry that Kai Ko was accused of smoking weed when he is against weed, and is an anti drug campaigner. That is how KK deceived the public. He needs to address that specifically with his fans and the general public.

  4. Boohoo, as if we’ll buy into those crocodile tears! Whatever happened to apologizing to the public for deceiving them with the anti-drug campaign, huh?

  5. Haha, only once two years ago… Nice try. But either way, expensive lesson to learn for the celebrities. Hopefully, he can rebound from this.

    1. The article is translated wrongly just read from the source and its stated the first time was 2 years ago not that he only spoke twice.
      「並不是兩年內每一天都需要毒品,是指第一次是兩年前,當時是貪玩…

  6. If he get into rehab for his treatment. Will he stay on the entertainment industry? We will see what happen & hope they will give him some space after the press conference.

  7. fake…. w/e
and whats the big deal?? seriously a lot of people smoke weed T____T

    1. I know right! Things like this happen all the time in the US and people don’t give a damn of it. But for this case, simply just “You live in China, you follow its rules.”

      1. I think of it as different countries have different rules/culture. For example, in some parts of India, there’s this concept call honor killing. Obviously the Indians who support that thinks it’s no big deal but for some of us, it’s a big deal.

  8. He made the bad choice and he is paying the price right now. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Time will tell us if he will learn from this lesson and become a better person.

    1. I agree but sadly it seems like many celebs who are involved with drug related issues never seem to ever revive their career again. It seems like they and their image is forever tainted.

  9. A lot of ppl know that drugs is not but yet they’ll try and some addicted to it.

Why cry when you got yourself caught? He wont cry and most likely will continue to go on drugs if he were not being caught.

    1. Well said Bloom and I think he is only crying because he was caught.

      1. Hi HeTieShou,
Thanks for agreeing. You hardly write these days, have you been busy?

It’s true, each time they were caught of doing something unpleasant these ppl cried, to seek sympaties or they’ve truly regretted and will turn into a new leaf.

It’s sad that drugs are something a lot of ppl used eventhough they know it’s bad for them especially in the long run.

If these ppl are not being caught, they would happily continue with what they’re doing. Or they’ll still continue to take drugs once this topic is soon forgotten by ppl. They’re just afraid these negative news will tarnish their good image and career that’s all.

      2. Hi Bloom,
Yes, I am busy and will be even busier and plus there is not much to say.

I used to have a police officer teach my classmates and I to not do drugs. However, a number of my classmates ended up using it anyways which I find sad. Some people know that drugs are not good but yet use it anyways.

With celebs it sadder to get caught because the public and many they do not know would know about it. I think you have noticed that many celebs that of use drugs are forever tainted. Many if not all seem to not be able to ever revive their career again. It sad for KK because he seemed to have a bright future ahead of him but that may all be down the drain now due to this. I hope he and many others learn from this incident.

    2. Hi HeTieShou,
I thought so you have been busy 🙂
Actually I’ve not been commenting much lately because I don’t know much of these celebrities. Actually I don’t know who is this guy, KK, but because of the topic caught my attention.
I personally feel people who tried using drugs are curious ppl. They’re curious how it taste like and often these ppl are often unhappy deep down or they’ve lots of stress that they find it hard to share with ppl. Drugs if not wrong in my own understanding can make you forget your worries while taking it am I right? Drugs is something that will kill you if you’re not careful to pull back.

    1. He was in jail and the policeman there won’t let him get a haircut perhaps?

  10. it seems like when you smoke weed, you cry really badly, guess that’s the side effect LOL

  11. Let him off the hook already. The media is making it like he committed rape or something.

  12. Why he is released? Then, I heard that back to Taiwan and get to question by Taiwanese police?

  13. I actually feel bad for him… lol. :/

Perhaps it’s cause I have a more westernized perspective and don’t see it as that big of a deal, but I still just feel bad for him. Hopefully he’ll learn his lesson not to take the law lightly, especially as a public figure.

  14. They used these kids as a tool to ruin Jackie’s political career in Mainland. That’s all !!

    1. it’s a communist country…they like you, you win, no vote needed.
