Kate Tsui Not Interested in Mainland Career

While many Hong Kong artistes are heading to Mainland China to earn bigger paychecks, Kate Tsui (徐子珊) has no intentions to do so. Kate said that she was not used to the working conditions in China. “Last time I went to China, I came back sick. I’m scared that I won’t be able to handle it because I’ll be homesick,” said Kate.

In a low-cut dress, Kate appeared as a spokesperson for a beauty company’s opening event. With her busy schedule, Kate expressed that she began eating a vegetarian diet to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Due to several changes in her daily habits, Kate improved her energy levels despite a busy filming schedule.

With regards to health, Kate also wished Raymond Wong (黃浩然) will get well soon. Having collaborated with Raymond in the past, Kate said she was shocked to hear that he was diagnosed with the rare Bechet’s disease. “I hope he’s okay, I’ll have to ask about his condition. It’s pretty serious because his children are very young. I’ll also keep tabs on my health – I’m very scared.”

Asked if Kate will be given more opportunities at TVB after Myolie Wu‘s (胡杏兒) speculated leave, Kate said, “There are a lot of people left and I’m not really that important. I’m only a corner of an iceberg.” Asked if she plans to win Best Actress first before leaving the station, Kate said there is no correlation. “Even if you don’t get the award after ten years, it’s time for retirement. No one wants you after you get old; you’ll be considered dried grass.”

  1. She wouldnt even make it in China.
Terrible acting especially when she pouts….
    Hope she leaves Tvb soon…..

    1. Who wants to work in china anyway. Such a backward country. Wouldn’t lower my standards

      1. @SHAZZA ITS FOR THE MONEY YOU KNOW IN CHINA YOU MAKE MORE THAN DOUBLE OF HONG KONG DUE TO CHINAS ECONOMY SKY ROCKETING.

      2. Yea Kate Tse isn’t even that famous in china she need improvement and larger fan base first.

      3. No amount of money would ever entice me to go and work in china. It’s not always got to be about money TVB FAN

      4. She wouldn’t even get very far even if she wanted to start her career in china. It’s such a competitive market over there. She’d need to improve a lot and find a way to stand out of the crowd in order to survive in the mainland industry. There are plenty of actresses in mainland who have a pretty face and good physique… Having a strong personality and character would be beneficial.

    2. High Fives Char lol………..agree on the pouting part so sick of it ^^

    3. Yeah agree! She does not have the potential to be popular in China! Haha actually most tvb artists don’t…maybe unless if it’s Angie Chiu^^

      1. That is not really true since there are a number of actors and actresses who were not known in HK or but made it big in China or are doing well in China like Hawick, Sammul Chan, Steven Ma( has his own company)Michelle Yip( who has her own company),etc.. Heard that Myoile,Tavia, Charmaine,Bosco, etc…were all very well liked there as well. Therefore, Kate may have a chance too.

      2. their career would probably last a year or so.. Look at Kevin Cheng… HK celebs arent really famous in China.. Quite frankly their own chinese celebs are prettier.

      3. Charmaine doesn’t make it after few years in mainland. She comes back to TVB via TVBC.

      4. Not to be rude but i think the reason Hawick got “famous” is because of his wife Yang Mi.

      5. @Kobe: Hawick got more fans due to his marriage with Yang Mi, but before that, he already broke into China market with a lot of leading roles. He had his own successes before Yang Mi.

    4. To Char,
Fully agree with you. Her acting is terrible, I watched her on the drama where she acted with Dayo Wong, it was so frustrating to see her fake eye lashes and when she pouts.

      1. I think she’s better off with the more serious or action genre, comedy is definitely nooooooot her thing, or at least she needs to work on it a lot. It was quite painful watching her play funny when she wasn’t a tad bit of funny.

    1. Don’t worry! You’ll get to see her onscreen in early October, as her new drama, called Tomorrow Is Another Day will be airing. Some of the main casts are Lawrence Cheng, Kate Tsui, Vincent Wong, Josie Ho and Jacqueline Wong.

    1. Yes this I agree ! Weirdly enough she does better in movies. Why is that lol

  2. She’s not the prettiest, okay acting but at the end of the day, she’s still got it going on more than the rest of us.

  3. She maintained her look well. She’s so pretty. Hope to see more of Kate in the near future.

  4. I would be scared living and working in China with the rampant counterfeiting of everything especially food stuff and drink products no one really knows if it is real or not. Only to know is to import the real items from the source. Even then, tainted ingredients can play havoc as well. Air pollution from vehicle smog and 2nd and third hand smoking can drive one’s health into a quandry. Depending on where you work and live, the hygenic standards are generally 2nd or 3rd rate. Yuk!

    1. Truth is, you have never been to China..

Just another brainwashed ‘white kid’ who sits in an armchair all day watching those ‘we are free, cry freedom’ propaganda, and CNN is top notch in that, along with all the other big 3 American free TV.

The most horrible thing is that those CNN idiots really think they are fair and reports balanced views… truth is, they wear an American lens to see anything and everything.

      1. true @little gwai i’m Korean American born and raised in San Francisco. Everything the tv reports on China are basicly trying to give people a bad impression of China. I used to be a fool and kind of believed in it about 40% but when i visited China. I realised that its a different story… Hmm.. Why do people hate China so much?

      2. You don’t learn much about Mainland China during your brief visits. You will have to live there for at least six months before you have a good idea of Mainland China.

Some people like it and some people don’t. For me, I like the beautiful and unique scenery of China.

      3. I havent lived there for 6 months, but i was there as an exchange student for 3 months. people were nice to me.. However i do find the “fashion style” for guys here abit different..

      4. I think it depends on where you live in China. People in small cities might be nicer and simpler.

      5. Dude, either you’re delusional, Mao’s little red book really got to your head or both of the above. I agree the US may not be objective or fair when reporting on China and I can also agree that some Americans’ perspective of the outside world, of China or another country, is inaccurate to say the least. But have the decency to admit and accept that China does not exactly have a good track record when it comes to honest reporting, propaganda, and offering ‘balanced views’. A lot of protests happen in China in rural areas that the outside world will not and cannot know about. The Chinese media censors information not only from the outside world, but also from their own citizens. Try looking up anything in relation to the massacre in Tiananmen Square in China and you’ll come up with zilch. The Chinese also keep tabs on all ingoing/outgoing emails from Tibet in case anyone dares to say anything about their utterly atrocious behaviour. You get the point??? All in all, CNN is a far cry from the best, but Chinese media is down there in the dumps with it.

      6. Hi Little Gwai,
I fully agree with you. America has always dislike China and to me they’re afraid that China in some ways. Yes, I must agree that some of the things about the chinese ppl like spitting, speaks loudly and some are unrefined. There are fake stuffs, but you cant deny the facts that not all are rotten apples. It’s also a fact that China has woken up (it’s like a dragon that has been sleeping for a long time). American govt always try to publicize the bad part of china to the world. Yes, those ignorant ppl will believe 100% of what was reported on tv , news internet. It’s unfair to judge China like that, go there to experience it yourself before you judge blindly.

      7. I agree with everything you said. I’m Chinese-American so I feel like I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up with the ability to witness the bias and prejudice of not just one country, but both countries. Obviously dealing with the racism and hate has been hard though. I grew up with so many anti-Chinese comments from friends, and even teachers who are teaching the next few generations. The media portrays China in a horrible light, and everyone just forms their own opinions from the media. Like every country in the world, China has its own strengths and weaknesses. AND THE UNITED STATES DOES TO. But no. We are groomed to believe that the United States is obviously just the most perfect country in the world, and any bit of competition means that the other country is evil. Again, I definitely think the United States has its strengths, but I don’t deny its weaknesses. I don’t understand why people have to put others down to make themselves feel better. And we wonder why bullying is such a problem.

    2. Agree with you aptos. Smelly ugly people come to mind

      You’d have commies everywhere

    3. Totally agree!!!

Why would any woman want to be in China (and be treated like 2nd class citizen)?

Now I’m hearing about tainted oil being used to cook food. Major health scare. Yuck!!!

      1. LOL I honestly can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or just ignorant. There is sexism in EVERY country.

      2. And, China is the one where parents slaugter their own baby-girls causing a severe gender imbalance. Women want to get out of China, not the other way around.

    4. I’ve been to china, and though I don’t hate china, I would definitely not like to live in china. Mainly because it is very competitive over there and the air quality is terrible in the main cities, not to mention the hygiene practices. But for a holiday, yes definitely a place to visit. The scenery in the country side is unbelievably beautiful.

For everyone it’s different, the culture difference might be acceptable for some but for others it’s impossible hence why people might hate to live or work in china. But even so, people should respect other culture and countries , every place has it’s positives and negatives…

  5. Ummm….well some tvb artists thinks that going to the mainland and film is a good thing to do plus to get paid a good amount of money!!!!! 😉

  6. Kate won’t make it to china. Her acting is ok. Also mainland has too many young and good actresses.

  7. “Even if you don’t get the award after ten years, it’s time for retirement. No one wants you after you get old; you’ll be considered dried grass.”

    She is very clear-sighted.

  8. Never think highly of her acting since she can barely act and always pout most of time. I think she knows she doesn’t have a market in mainland. Besides there are tonnes of younger and prettier and better actresses in mainland. She won’t make it anyway at her age and acting level.

      1. It is true. I think it is not easy to be popular in Mainland China as they have too many well-trained young actresses. Even Charmaine does not always get good roles to act in Mainland China, and she was one of the first few actresses to enter Mainland Chinese market.

      2. I think it depends on where you live in China. People in small cities might be nicer and simpler.

      3. I dont think Sheren is a good example because she is much older than Kate. I refer to the current fadans of TVB who are 39 and under. In the current top 5 of TVB fadans, only Myolie has some leading roles and is well paid.

      4. I think the majority of vb actors can only make it big in china or survive in the market if they are continuing to be under tvb management. Only then will they make a name in the china market and survive in that market. Tvb does a lot in terms of promotion and bringing them fame. If they break off from tvb and try to venture into mainland market, sooner or later they’d just be another fish in the sea. They need tvb to distinguish themselves from the others IMO.

      5. @ Clementine: Erhhh I think you are wrong. Look at Michelle Yip, Sammul Chan and Hawick Lau, they got out of TVB and made ok in China (Hawick made big) without any backup from TVB. And in fact, they did better than most of TVB artist with contract. On the other hand, most of the TVB artists with contracts are fish in the sea with TVB backup. Their prices are normally lower than the left guys.

    1. Yep I agree, I seen only like 6-7 china TV Dramas. All the actors are all different. All new faces and a lot of pretty ones. China actors probably beat TVb. My opinion only.

  9. It’s been 10 years since she won Miss Hong Kong 2004. She hasn’t change a bit & still look the same. Hope she’ll leave TVB soon & move on with it. She can’t be Artist for the rest of her life. She need to find Mr Right & get married so she could be retired for the entertainment industry.

    1. Lol, she needs to ? Wow, you’re either her mother or father I see.

  10. She does have good facial features but all the make up she wears makes her really hot

    1. Ironically, Myolie is one of the rare TVB current fadans who is paid highly in China. The other one is Charmaine. None of the other current fadans of TVB can make as much as Myolie in China.

  11. Its not like the mainland market needs her either. China has better and prettier actresses. Fan Bing Bing’s payment for one movie would be 10 times higher than Kate’s. Besides why bother to go to mainland china to film movies or dramas when you cant even pronounce mandarin words. It ruins the whole movie/drama.

    1. Directors prefer mainland or Taiwan actresses now for movies, and either a very established actress or totally fresh face. Kate is only an aging TV star standing in between those two categories it will be very hard for her to break into movies unless she wants to keep doing aupporting role in C grade cheap movies.

      1. True…. I guess she’s just saying that she’s not interested simply because she got rejected. Haha. jk

    2. Their voices are redubbed by other voice actor/actresses anyway. I agree with the others saying that Mainland actresses are prettier.

  12. Kate is pretty in that above photo. She still looks youthful despite in her thirties. Sadly, other actresses around her age look less, especially Tavia. Nancy and Myolie look a little different from when they entered from the industry, but have still maintained their looks.

Glad to know that Kate is honest and knows she doesn’t want to be part of the mainland market. First of all, I don’t feel her sexy image and subtle acting style would really fit the mainland dramas either. Secondly, I feel like her acting style is different from other TVB actresses who are more cutesy and her sexy image is harder to replace (but only Kate fans will see her value) than let’s say Tavia and Myolie, although they are more solid actresses in general.

    1. Ankie Bielke can replace Kate fine if you want to act sexy sultry woman. She’s also prettier and a better actress than Kate although she has only been in a few series.

      1. I pick Ankie Biekle over Kate anytime and Kate isnt sexy she’s fake most likely she obiviously had something done compare to look from before and Ankie looks more natural in all ways!!!

      2. She does not need as make-up, unlike Kate with crazy long ass eyelashes

    2. Kate really looks younger than her age. In real person, she has bright smile and friendly personality to make herself younger. I have seen some TVB actresses and Kate looks the youngest among the 79 girls. And she has style. Myolie also has style to make her outstanding despite the fact she is not that pretty.
