Kate Tsui Not Worried About Competition from Younger Actresses
TVB has been actively promoting younger actresses such as Tracy Chu (朱千雪), Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝). This could potentially leave little room for the current crop of A-listers like Kate Tsui (徐子珊) who, since the romantic comedy Smooth Talker <以和為貴>, has not been involved in any other upcoming dramas.
Nevertheless, Kate remains unfazed. She said, “I’ve been with the company for so many years. I know I have a certain status. If there is a role that suits me or suits my age, it will come to me. I care more about the quality of the role than the number of roles. Many of my seniors had to wait a long time before getting breakthrough roles.”
Becoming an actress after winning Miss Hong Kong 2004, Kate appreciates TVB’s promotion of pageant participants. “I enjoy working with newcomers, as things are more interesting and more dynamic,” Kate expressed. “Tracy, for instance, is extremely professional and punctual.”
On whether she had thought of winning TV Queen, Kate admitted that she had not, “At the end of the day, awards don’t matter. What matters most is having a healthy and well-adjusted lifestyle. I’m not sure if I can achieve that by working all the time…I would much rather have a good man whom I can live happily ever after with.”
On the subject of men, Kate laughed and said, “Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find this man yet. Perhaps I should spend less time filming so I have more time to date.” She then shared an anecdote on how her celebrity status hindered her quest for love, “I was once out with an American man who was my sister’s colleague, and all was going well until we bumped into some students who were clamoring for a photograph with me. The man was immediately put off!”
Kate further revealed that her mother had arranged match-making sessions for her, and she was happy to attend.
