Kate Tsui Reminisces Holiday Memories

Before being crowned Miss Hong Kong 2004 and subsequently joining the entertainment circle, Kate Tsui (徐子珊) spent her college years studying abroad in the United States. Attending the University of California, Davis, Kate had the opportunity to spend the winter holiday season celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year with a diverse group of friends.

Due to the diversity, Kate and her friends often threw potluck parties where everyone prepared and shared their specialty ethnic foods. After a hearty meal, the group would often build snowmen and have snowball fights.

Although Kate left her close friends and the carefree lifestyle behind in the United States, she continued to retain her holiday spirits since returning to Hong Kong. “I will usually go shopping at the flower market and buy poinsettias for Christmas. I will also buy some Christmas decorations, but due to the limited space in my house, I can’t fit a Christmas tree. Instead, I buy pine cone scented candles. When lit, the entire house will smell of pine cones and become very festive!”

A Therapeutic Vacation

Earlier, Kate revealed that she is currently experiencing a phase of uncertainty and hopes to discover a breakthrough in her life. Since traveling has been known to foster a sense of happiness, Kate disclosed that she wished to visit Finland. While she has seen the Northern Lights on television on numerous occasions, she hopes to have the opportunity to see the enchanting lights in person.

  1. did she travel up north to make a snowman and throw snowballs? because the last time I checked, there aren’t enough snow in Cali for the past decades to build any snowballs… let alone a snowman…

    1. You can find snow 2 hours away from Davis. She and friends most likely went to Tahoe. You can find many ski lodges up in that area of California.

  2. It does not snow in Davis and the greater Sacramento area, so I’m pretty sure she went to Lake Tahoe (which is 2 hours away from UC Davis) to go play in the snow. It is possible to build a snowman and snowballs because Tahoe gets a decent amount of snow during the winter unless there is a drought. Because of the recent droughts we had, the skiing resorts in the area had to pay to make fake snow to keep their business going. It’s a weird practice, but it’s the truth.

  3. Was just gonna comment on snow in Davis… Yes, she probably went to Tahoe. I’m a UCD alum too. Surprised that she went to UCD.

    1. Hey I am a UCD Alumini too. I attended the same time that she did,but I never ran into her since I studied different majors. By the way,it did snow in Davis for like 5 minutes during one year but I forgot which year. I think it was in 2000 or 2001 since those were some of the years that I attended.

I remember once walking to school during the morning or afternoon and it suddenly began to snow for like 5-10 minutes. It was truly one moment in time that I can never forget. I remember some girls came out of their houses to take photos to remember that moment. Everyone talked about it in school too.

Anyways, glad Kate remembers her days and memories at Davis. I really miss those days at Davis and my university days as those were some of the best years of my life.

      1. What a lovely coincidence! I also attended UCD and am a UCD alumni, albeit a few years after Kate did. What were your majors? College years were definitely the best and most memorable.

Tahoe is a wonderful place to vacation during both the summer and winter times. The amount of entertainment is abundant!

    1. Yes, it is a recent photo. She looks different lately because she cut her eyes bigger, so that her eyes transformed from her original signature “foxy” eyes to these big round eyes. Haha 🙂

  4. Hopefully there is no more change in her look. She starts to look like another person. Going to not able to recognise her soon.

  5. aww she still remembers her university times! being a celebrity sure is hard, you have to sacrifice quite a number of friendships. I mean, yes they chose the path themselves but wow I have a new found admiration for her now!
